  • Whoa, somehow July managed to squeeze in an extra Friday! For today's BONUS episode of LFF, I'm showing my "Large Format Ritual" but with one twist...I won't be saying a word the entire time! So grab your headphones and get ready for some large format ASMR.
Can large format photography really be ASMR? A lot of these repetitive actions of the LF process are music to my ears, but let me know what you think!

Totally, TOTALLY awesome video. It shows all the stages of insanity being a LF shooter. And this is your SIDE GIG???? It's rare to find someone this into playing with something that had a expiration date decades ago.... I cannot believe you don't have more subs... you show photography at its core, not just LF... I hope the vibes you get from us keeps you going for a long time Mat!!!

Thank you Dave, I really appreciate it! Good vibes definitely keep the spark alive for taking chances on videos like this one. LF photography is hardwired into me, and this was a sneak peek of it.

Ahh! I miss the sounds of photographers swearing in the darkroom as they drop the sheet of film they're trying to load into the holder. Or the photographer swearing as they drop the lens as they're taking it out of the bag, then swearing again when they realize they left the shutter release cable at home. And the photographer swearing as they realize they've just shot four sheets of film without setting the lens aperture. Or the photographer swearing in the dark when they realize they just mistook the tray full of stop bath for the tray next to it, the one with the developer. Or the photographer swearing when they drop the exposed film onto the floor as they are transferring it into the fixer. Nice audio, Matt. Very clean. Suitable for children and elderly relatives. What does "ASMR" stand for, anyway? Absolutely Safe for Mothers and Relatives? ;)

Michael I want you to know that I'm copying this entire comment into my notes for future video ideas. There's comedy gold in here! Oh, and ASMR is a sub-genre of video that's auditory only and stimulating (not sexually, I think?) for some.

Another excellent video, on a par with your 'Cringe Moments' video which had me cringing and laughing together. The only moments I missed there were the revelation in the darkroom of a double exposure, and realising, having set up the perfect shot that the battery in the light meter has run out and you haven't got a spare. And as observed by others, in this one I missed the sound of swearing (or at least the beeps to blank it out) when things don't go according to plan
