  • it's the biggest boat we've reviewed to date. It's a 78-foot 1984 Alden Palmer Johnson 78. It was a delight for us to see such a large, comfortable boat that is really well thought out. Now her price is a bit above our regular target but we figured it would be worth seeing

      Will do.
BTW, re: that "translucent" thing that you always seem to get backwards. "Lucent" refers to light and "trans" to through; therefore, translucent means only light travels through this material.
And when you hear "transparent" think of "...parent" as in apparent. Therefore transparent means that things that are apparent (viewed) travels through this material.
You can see things through transparent material but you can only see light through translucent material.

@@YachtHunters This made me cry. That was just an amazing yard in its heyday. Pat Haggerty gave them any capital they needed to improve processes and quality. Mike Kelsey ran it with such enthusiasm. Everyone, right down to Helen, the receptionist was so excited about the boats and their place in the sailing boom. Flawless joinerwork and, at the time, the best aluminum fabrication available... all gone.

Hello Captain Q, Hi Ran-Day! As usual... you're presenting another great vessel in a vid that's simply pro. Other channels could learn a lot from the two of you, I believe. And... what a great boat that could serve as anything from an extremely versatile week ender up to a live aboard. I've already imagined taking her from the US East coast right across the Atlantic over to europe... Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Wales, Enland's South coast though the British Cannel and so forth... or even down to the Med. One perhaps would have to fit a wind generator and some solar panels plus some extra batteries, if required, and eventually upgrade the electrical systems for the use of 220V shore power. Anyway... thanks for entertaining me this magnificient way!

Nice boat, pretty traditional Alden. Hopefully you can review a newer Alden 44 as well. Heading home from Mac race and watching the show on the hook in Charlevoix. PJs would have been across the lake and as someone pointed out it makes me sad they're gone. Aluminum just kind of fell out of favor. The developmental rule aka IOR has hurt the industry in my opinion. Which Clorox bottle do you want to race. Sure there are some big boat guys playing the game but not to many 40' guys. Expense is sort of down but ...
Great boat, always like when you talk designer and builder. Please always throw some of that in each time.

@@YachtHunters I’m picky and conservative so if I say it’s very nice- that’s a major compliment .. this boat has all anyone could ask for and then some and can sail comfortably in any latitude .. I would not be afraid to take it to the higher latitudes . May have to do some rudder protection may even consult with Skip to see how it may be improved to do such a trip.
Love your videos Cptn & Randy - do keep them coming .. the longer the boat the better.

My first question, is there an intercom system to talk to the bow from the cockpit ? Talk about big, check out those main winches at the cockpit ! Love the internal masts, it almost looks as though 2 competent sailors could handle this bus. Speaking of size, when you made that walk to the fore-peak I expected to find Leo DiCaprio waiting for you on the bowsprit. 1,400 gallons of water... where's the hot-tub ?! I just caught a glimpse of the power management/navigation station and it reminded me of the sound engineer's panel at a professional recording studio before you made the same comparison ! 78 feet and it only sleeps 10 ? This sounds like just the boat for you Captain Q, I second the lottery ticket idea. Thanks for another great video, already looking for the next one ! ⛵⛵⛵

Seriously that boat, or is it a ship, is way out of my price range. Heck I'd need to save up my social security checks for several months just to fill the fuel tank, but she is really nice.
