- Our first sailboat for sale in 2023 is a 1975 Alden 58 Boothbay Challenger Ketch rig for $139,500USD.
We found this alden classic sailboat for sale to be not only handsome but also as spacious as you might imagine a 58-foot sailboat would be. One nice part of this offering is that there is a survey in the works so any potential buyer should have that readily available without investing any time/money to understand any potential issues.

Omg,omg,omg,omg!!!! The captain has returned! I cannot express the joy that I and the sailing world are experiencing right now. We were sure you had been captured by wayward penguins up to no good and were prepared to pay the ransom in fish and other sundries. My linguistic penguin abilities are quite limited so I am happy it did not come to that. Now proceed to make my week with your awesome review and never leave again without at least leaving sea dog to explain. I could go on but I probably should actually watch the episode. Don't do that again and I speak for a great many of us CaptainQ addicts. Welcome home sir.

I'm with all of those below-Welcome back! So good to see you both and Sea Dog. 85 has to be the highest rating yet. This would be a great boat to put into the water and spend the first Summer just going through and cleaning up all of the lockers and doing a little refinishing. Also catalogue everything that needs to be renovated/repaired/replaced and prepare for the next haul out. A couple of seasons of work/play and you would have a first class yacht. Thank you gentlemen for starting my Thursday out with a nice review and best wishes for a warm Spring soon,.

Every time I see the Captain I think of my long deceased dad and like him, his endless terminology for all things nautical. He was a naval architect that when he came to this country from Scotland, originally started with Sparkmen and Stevens. Thanks for all you two do for the sailing community.

Super excited to see CQ and Ran-day! It's been, as we say down here, a hot minute since the last post and this one was great.
I love this vessel! It's not for me in that my Perfect Boat would have the ability for 2 distinct couples to live on-board while passage making but for the right folks this vessel could be amazing. The bones on this one are in such good shape and the 'problems' are cosmetic...
I hope whoever takes this gem next does what it takes to make her everything she could be.
So, again, glad to see y'all back and look forward to seeing more as the weather warms.

Captain you were so handsome at the end while scoring that boat. (Just a bit too high. That owners bedroom was weird. I’d prefer one big shared bed but…and the boat had not been used lovingly which of course is just waiting for the right owner to fall in love). The captain deserves a very high rating with that black woolen pea coat and natty black and white striped scarf. I missed you and Randall. It feels like Spring might actually happen and we can get back to our weekly rhythm. You were very much missed by all of us here.
AWWWW shucks Beverly ... anyway...actually the aft stateroom port bunk could accommodate two close friends easily it didn't show up.
the giant doubles are great if your vessel is to be a marina queen, but this stateroom will afford great living and loving area no matter offshore or moored in Tahiti

Sooo glad to have you back! One interesting bit of information: the Bowdoin might've been the only schooner designed specifically for the arctic, but Amyr Klink's Paratii 2 is also a schooner (it has two identical masts) and it was designed to explored the Antarctic polar circle, with great success!

Hey Cap,
You need to read my book about William Hand. The boat you’re showing was built by the Hodgdon Bros and you mentioned that they built the schooner Bowdoin. William Hand designed the Bowdoin and many motorsailers that were built by the Hodgdon Bros. The Boothbay Challenger is an Alden design, but it’s pretty much a motorsailer. Hand was a step above Alden in designing motorsailers and Sonny Hodgdon greatly respected Hand’s designs. He built many of Hand’s schooners and motorsailers.
