    You can never go wrong playing a Tony Hawk game, even the bad ones. There is always fun to be had. Tony Hawk 4 was one of my favorites because they removed the time constraint. So I decided to make a Side by side for it. I hope you enjoy it.

    For those who don't know, RenderWare is also the engine used on the Burnout series and was created by its developer Criterion. If I remember correctly, Canon (the camera company) was also involved in the creation and distribution of RenderWare in some way (they are named in the rights section of some versions of it).

    • @YOBAMUSTDIE
      @YOBAMUSTDIE Před 3 lety

      Canon as far as I remember was owner of criterion or renderware at some point, then they sold Criterion to EA after renderware became irrelevant for next gen consoles that was now taken over by more advanced unreal Engine 3 which 2x versions was not so popular on console market as renderware. I can't say for sure now many ps2 and Xbox 1 games used it but my impression was that like every second game on consoles and their pc ports was based on renderware , so it was very profitable for Canon to buy it, but then it aged and was not ready for next generation and ps2 and Xbox era finished, so as interest of Canon.

      @@YOBAMUSTDIE from what I read, Criterion used to be a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon until being sold to EA sometime in 2003 to 2004. One of the last uses of Renderware was Burnout Paradise where EA ceased further development of the HD rendition "because there were better engines on the market" and "to focus resources on other engines", namely, what would eventually become Frostbite, which every EA studio uses. Renderware was so popular back in the day as it was one of the few readily available engines that was highly compatible with the PS2 which many developers found very difficult to code and develop for making it a popular solution to getting games onto the biggest selling console at the time with even some of Sony's own studios and first party games opting to use this engine over ones provided to them by Sony.

      @@YOBAMUSTDIE according to the official NFS wiki, both Criterion NFS games run on Criterion's Chameleon engine or a modified form of it (depending on which game you're talking about). Burnout Paradise is still one of the last games to utilize the engine (being around the 7th or 8th last game to use it) and, depending on who you ask, Burnout Paradise Remastered still used that engine and had it ported so it could be used making it the last use of the engine as of 2018.

    Yes the PS1 was still relevant in 2002 and I did play Tony Hawk's 4 in it, considering the aging hardware, it's a very good game and the shorter draw distances weren't a problem. After that I played the PC version a lot and have been wanting to try it on Windows 10 for sometime, but it didn't work as well as it does today, the widescreen fix with increased resolution makes it the best version, I have tried the PS2 when I couldn't get the PC to work and even using PCSX2 enhanced features, it just wasn't the same. Thanks to your video, I now know why.

  • @YOBAMUSTDIE
    @YOBAMUSTDIE Před 3 lety +6

    All of PC ports from consoles suffering low contrast and washed out colors because 99% of devs doesn't compensate the difference between TV and PC color space, tv has limited rgb space of 16-235 while PC has 0-255, so black in almost every game supposed to be at 16 and white at 235, but on PC they turns into dark and light greys and whole color range got shifted. You can compensated it by using gamma, contrast and brightness sliders in games that has it but best way is to play on TV and set video card color range to full 0-255 while TV should be set to limited 16-235. However captured footage will be in limited range, so you have to manually do limited to full expansion of video or you should keep both PC and TV in full range but use dgvoodoo in old games and reshade with levels or my extended levels shader set to 16-235 range to get a proper colors.
    Also for some reason ps1 and ps2 ports has greenish tint that was compensated by TV,, so adjusting RGB balance and adding more red or reducing green also with reshade is needed to make a proper color balance. Most notable examples are Hitman and Freedom Fighters games as well as Second Sight, they are so green on PC but they should not be like that if you look at GC and Xbox versions.

    • @killertruth186
      @killertruth186 Před 3 lety

      That's because of TV then was cheaper to use limited rgb than full color range. And now at least the good TV's have full rgb control (also led could make it full rgb as well). I had grown up from using cathode tube monitors and TV's to LED TV's and monitors.
      And PC was actually expensive then as well.

    • @YOBAMUSTDIE
      @YOBAMUSTDIE Před 3 lety +1

      @@killertruth186 modern TV broadcast and all sorts of video players including video streaming still use limited color range until it's HDR, and modern console games still calibrated for limited color range by default and when you set console and TV to output in full range, console does automatic expansion of limited range to full, which makes console games look correct if tv and console settings match.
      It doesn't happen on PC, games are ported with color calibrations set to limited range, while PC outputs to full range by default in every software, so colors doesn't get expanded as they are on modern consoles, and to get correct colors in 99% of games you should set your video card to output as full range, but display or TV to output as limited range. This will over saturated a little OS ui, but games and movies will look as intended.There are very few modern games that actually ported properly with expanded color range or with settings that usually named as rec709 color range in SDR, and it does the correction if color range. I remember very few of such games - resident evil 2 remake, some of recent call of duty games and few more.
      In old games you could correct this manually if they had 3 sliders for gamma, brightness and contrast, but nowadays most of games only have brightness slider which is also often could be missnamed contrast and gamma slider which is not enough to properly set white and black levels, so reshade with extended levels shader which I made (it's in legacy pack) is best solution, especially if you want games not just be displayed properly on your display but also recorded and streamed with proper color range.
      Hardware solution is also problematic because not every PC display has settings for limited or full color range, so shaders is the only way for them. I wish this problem to be addressed on windows systemn level so you could set color range for each game in compatibility settings and set some global options to use limited to full expansion for all games (same way as windows does autoHDR now).

      @@YOBAMUSTDIE Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind is one of those games. Since there's only 2 ports.
      But the only reason why the fact of PC ports gets the wrong color, or terrible color correction is because of the choices of TV industry had gone the specific route. The devs of the games always use the simple methods of porting, because of time and money.
      Trying to buy TV if it was as expensive like the monitor back in those years, is like buying graphics cards at inflated prices and the money doesn't go to the scalpers. I am sure that you don't want to buy a TV that much.

    08:48 | I don't get why they made the controls complicated on PC. Revert is mapped to the same button as nollie and switch stance + they rotate. I wanted to play this gem again on PC but I'm thinking about PS2 emulation because of the better controls and it can be displayed at higher resolution.
