    I love this little car. I’ve driven five of them since it came out in 2012 and it’s just such a fun back to basics sports car. I’m in a position now where I can get a 2015 model and it will be my only car. My work is a very short 10 minute drive from my house so it’ll cover low mileage under my ownership. I am aware of the compromises you need to make with a car like this but If like me your in your 20’s and don’t haul many things or people around then you can live with this car. Can’t wait to get mine.

I paid 17k for a 17plate with 17k miles, probably a bit expensive but overall it is a great car. I agree that you have to drive it aggressively to be rewarded which is why I opted for a manual.

    • @177SCmaro
      @177SCmaro Před 4 lety

      @@DeltaAnt1000 They're not completely different. One is a pony car (basically a combination of a muscle car and a sports car) the other is a sports car. There is some overlap. And the mustang ecoboost beats the 86 at just about everything except a very tight road course. If the 86 had another 70-80 hp and a better power band then it would be the other way around. Unfortunately to make an 86 do that costs more than an ecoboost so you might as well get the mustang unless your heart is set on a pure sports car.
      There is individual preference but the ecoboost objectively performs better out of the box in more categories. The lackluster power to weight of the 86 kills it stock but it does look to be "driving a slow car fast" type of fun.

I'm on the horizon of moving out soon and I've had my eye on this for a while, and I have to say this video I think may have just tipped me over in favour of securing one this year! What you said about it being an "ideal second car" resonates with me because I work from home, so my only time spent in the car is for long (fun) trips up the country, or for leisure meaning my primary car always feels like the average second car.

    Interesting. I have to disagree with one major thing. You say it’s a good second car. My partner used hers as a workhouse. It was used everyday for a 60 mile commute, right through the winter too. We live in the Scottish highlands and with good winter tyres on 16” wheels it handles snow and slush with ease. With the rear seats down there is a fair bit of room. She used to throw bags of compost and manure in there, stuff for the tip, bundles of decking boards, in fact, all sorts of crap. In the summer back on its 18” wheels it was used to go on holiday with 500 mile drives down to England. They are an awesome every day car :)

    Easy on the eye but I can’t help feeling it would have been a proper GT with a 2.5 or 3 litre lump in it. As it stands I think for money saving alone plus similar fun factor I’d opt for the MX5

      I got mine from Toyota as an approved used, comes with warranty etc, also fully checked, it had a recall for valve spring replacements, so it had the full works, new gasket etc before collecting it. Makes me smile every time i look at it parked up and when driving.. Ive plugged the intake fake engine noise pipe which makes that droning noise inside the car. It sounds much better now and quieter, you can actually hear the true engine flat 4 sound and it feels a bit nippier, overall a fab car for the money £11k for a used gt86, cheap to run, drifts and wheel spins on tap! Can be modified just like the new Supra.

  • @davidbrett-everest3326

    I had a 64 plate for about 6 months and loved it. Very easy to get the backend out on a roundabout. Only thing that annoyed me was having one of the poppers break on the side of the seat that is used as a seatbelt guide. Had to replace the whole seat cover. That was a few hundred.!! Would of sounded better with an HKS air filter as well. I now have a civic type r fn2 and prefer it to be honest. I put a throttle response unit on and it has reduced the 0-60 to about 5.6 and fuel economy has gone up to 35mpg on a run.
