- Today we launch a Rover & Helicopter to Duna, and then launch a daring recovery operation to bring the data home! This is a Kerbal-take on on the Perseverance/Recovery mission that is currently going on IRL.

I think you should do a Carreer playthrough. It could be really interesting to see you performing on some contracts and doing mission with the budget aspect aswell. Btw i love ur vidéos I follow you from Québec and its a pleasure to see you play and play by myself that beautifull game.
The only problem with career is the boring missions like testing parts and flying over Kerbin
@@basesixty6739 you don't have to do that. It's entirely possible to progress in career mode only doing things that are fun.
My brother decided to try a career save recently. I am next to completely useless when it comes to career mode.
If he does he should use a mod to add more interesting contracts so he doesn't have to do the grindy ones as much

Hey Matt , ✋
If you want to keep the fairing on the rover to stay intact when dropping. There’s a option on the fairing where you can remove staging. So it wouldn’t separate itself.
Also, you would need to terminate fairing instead of connecting it to the heat shield

@@hannalot_ WHAT THE
Awesome view of a..."Kerbal-ified"...? Perseverance mission! Idea I had for a KSP video: you seem to enjoy making space stations and SSTOs (looking at your channel history ;P). However, you rarely seem to use the stations unless you're expanding them, and I think you did a resupply mission once (and still expanded). So anyway, here's my idea, and hear me out: what if you were to try to get everywhere in the Kerbol system, but here's the catch: the vehicle can ONLY have the ∆V to get into low Kerbin orbit. Oh, and no drill, either. Once there, refuel using a space station, and try to make your way through the whole star system that way. Also: you CAN land and use surface bases to refuel, as well. You just can't refuel using a drill. It HAS to be pre-launched resources.
That sounds like a pretty cool idea. Would make for a good mini series.
Matt already said he is too busy for such complicated missions,,
@@n1elkyfan Yeah, I guess it would be a bit of a long video, wouldn't it? Plus, it'd be nice to actually see the stations launch, so yeah, you're right

Have you tried the RealPlume mod? It overhauls the stock engine exhaust with really good looking plumes that even separate as you go higher into the atmsphere. Also about the comets, I advise you to use caution with them, as they get a bit buggy when using timewarp and/or quicksaves. I remember one person on your Discord server who tried to build a station around one and after i believe 2 or 3 launches it just exploded when the comet moved slightly after they timewarped. I hope squad can fix this in an update because comets are REALLY big and having a station around one would look way better than even a large E-class asteroid. as always, great vid Matt and keep up the great work! :))
I just installed after seeing your post. This mod is sick!
RealPlume is great, but using certain engines (RAPIER or aerospike, for example) in a cluster will murder your framerate. I can see that being a problem for him.
@@ryanrising2237 Really? Iv'e never had trouble with R.A.P.I.E.R.s destroying my frames, or aerospike either. I know you can Alt + p to change the amount of particles that spawn, but even that doesnt lag me that much unless i have SRBs kicking smoke off into the sky, and then i look down into it. Not sure what GPU ur running, because that could be the issue, but i have an rx 570 and it runs realplume fine even with scatterer + visual packs installed. and i feel pretty confident matt has a better gpu than an rx 570, so he should be able to handle it. either that or you have an rtx 2080 ti in duel gpu configuration and it lags for because of weird visual bug sor something. idk.

SUCCESSFUL PERSEVERANCE ROVER LANDINGGG!!!!
Next video idea : Attempt the NASA 2024 mission to the Mun’s South Pole with an Artemis lunar rover
I really love these long videos and extended missions, you should do them more often!
Heya Matt, for the save file ship list from the VAB you could go through the ships with the explorer and cut some out and save them somewhere else for later. That won't affect existing ships, so easy way to declutter the ship list :)
Matt Lowne: Can rescue a rover with a rover.
Me: Can't even fricking land a lander in Mun orbit.
I cant get my rocket into proper orbit in sandbox mode lol.

Awesome mission Matt, it was nice to sit back with a cold one and watch a full length episode (better than TV in my opinion) keep up the great work, good luck and stay safe. 🚀
Thank you Matt for always motivating me. Whenever i watch one of your ksp videos i get motivated to play the game and try to become better at it. Thank you
Watching this after the Perserverance rover landed :)
23:10 Comets do appear but its like every 1-4 years or so before one enters the solar system
Do you also have a Kliron 1 in a predicted slingshot maneuver around the sun? I'm wondering because I found it the other day thinking it was an asteroid in a very weird orbit. Wasn't until I read the name that I figured it was a comet.
@@camerondon3712 some comets stay in a orbit but a 70 years orbit or longer. I used the object thrower to slow the comet down so its ina close orbit for a little decoration when i look in the sky
15:40 → "missions is the plural for mission" 👏👏
I'd like to see a career mode playthrough but in a more episodic way. Show us all of the missions you launch for career mode. Love your videos.
Well he should cut some of the missions, there would be like 49 episodes just testing the "flea" solid rocket booster in flight above Kerbin.
Matt! Have you ever considered doing something larger with Gilly? I tried sending a rover, but on Gilly it didn’t really work, but I considered instead to make almost like a crawler, so I used the robotic parts and the grabbing arms, though I failed miserably due to my lack of skill at the game, but I definitely think you could pull it off, especially now that we have the smaller arms, just an interesting challenge on the surface of a moon I thought you might be interested in.

Really impressed that you did 2 missions in one video for this week, easily could have split it up and left us hanging. Really liked that they went together, awesome rover video!

I legit thought he meant to save a rover with a rover like saving opportunity.
PS that should be a video
You know you're getting real with yourself when your internal monologue pulls out the "Matthew".
A variant of the Mun and Duna mobile bases that has a mobile launch pad on the top of it. The mobile base lands and then deploys a stored folded launch pad on the top on the base that also has an integrated refuel station and THEN land a mission on top of the deployed pad, refuel and then take off again.
How cute ingenuity i want it in home
When the rover and rocket touched down and connected all I could think was a cheesy romance show being like "kiss me you fool" then a second later "no we can't, it's too soon"
i am in fact watching this after the perseverance rover has landed
Matt, I appreciate you ALWAYS saying the transfer window degree in your videos. I ALWAYS use them for reference.
I used the rover to rescue the rover
timtheplayer05 underrated
Idea: some eccentric bajillionaire wants Kerbin to have its own asteroid belt. Bring back at least 5 asteroids of various sizes into orbit between 140 and 250km.
Little Pro Tip: When you are placing fairings around fairings, you can disable the inner fairing expansion and then you won't have issues creating the outer fairing.
Hey Matt, just wanted to stay this video HAS stood the test of time and I’m watching this after perseverance and ingenuity have been thriving for a long time on the Martian soil:) great video

You know Matt’s British when the subtitles say “Juna” when he says “Duna”

great video this week! I like when you leave in the mistakes. Anyone who has played KSP knows that the mission almost never goes smoothly the first time.
the title could be: sending a rover, then sending another to recover sample, then another to recover the rover that was recovering the samples to launch it with a rocket, then launch a thing that recovers the rocket. go back to earth and send another ship to recover the ship that recovered the rocket launched by the rover that was recovering the rover that recoverred the samples

Do Career mode! You don't have to do it all the time, because I know you enjoy the sandboxy mode, but I would really enjoy seeing you doing career mode, and how you might handle the challenges it gives you, especially if you do hard mode, and try and not use quickloads if you can. I find it very satisfying when I test rockets before sending manned missions and get it all done without reverts / quickloads.
