Setting the SEA SPEED RECORD in Kerbal Space Program 2!

- Kerbal Space Program 2 is finally here, this time we have to engineer the world's fastest boat to set the sea speed record in KSP2! It was harder than expected, but nothing the UK Space, sorry, UK Sea Agency can't solve- even if it did defy physics and break reality!

KSP Devs: "So what do you think of our space game?"
RCE: "The boat physics need some work."
KSP Devs: "... What?"
Whether atop the waves or between the stars, a ship's a ship.
🤣🤣 too true
I would consider this true if even the space aspect was any good. This game is still incredibly broken that it's not even funny. It's just, sad.
gg
I find it so funny that rce has made so many videos on ksp and ksp2 and still hasn’t made it to another planet
To be honest, I’ve had KSP 1 since at least 3 years and hadn’t made it to mun and back! But there is floating more debris in space than in real life and at least two thirds of the planet had to flatten out for all the sacrifices for fu- I mean for science!
There are different planets in these games?
@@tahirbhuiya9057 i wouldnt even know there was space if i didnt watch the old videos
ksp2 is fundamentally broken. it isn't like ksp1
@@Idiomatickyeah i guess
The episode should have been called "Matt vs the KSP water physics". The long time viewer will have easily spotted the mistake RCE did here. He forgot to use the strongest shape!
It keeps spinning in the water because of the struts are putting stress on the frame and that puts a rotational force on the vehicle I know it doesn't work in real life but it is common in video games
@@kendallguier1378 even without struts that thing flew in the water like paper in the wind
I think the devs have come out and said basically "yeah water physics is currently broken." why they then included the boat launch in early access anyway is beyond me.
Including it allows them to watch youtubers and streamers as a means of seeing what all is wrong with them, and it doesn't waste the devs' time that could be better spent on other things.
@@TheRussell747 that and it gives the devs good content to watch instead of reading text walls
another youtuber hypothesized that ksp2 wasnt initially intended to be Early Access and that the publisher informed the dev team, who were working towards a future date some years from now, late last year about the change. in this regard the dev team may not have had time to realize they left boat launch in, or removing boat launch borked something else so it had to stay.
eary access mean please give me feedback build. why not include in the game? so many indie game is launch test build during early access and I am happy to try and give feedback. so I don’t see a problem. early access is not EA and activition blizzard early access money grap no improvement build.
Makes for some funny moments
Unlike in real life. the UK space agency under Matt seems to be doing well, despite the many, many deaths.

I can't believe you didn't zoom in on the kerbal at 3:03 His reaction was amazing
While his pilot was fearing for his life in in a literal rocket flying a few feet over sea level, matt was like:" Yar, why is there no sea shanty?" brilliant XD
RCE: makes a trimaran* "Now that's a proper catamaran!"
How does this have like 200 likes, and a heart but no replies?
@@AlienDeveloperYT strange until now I didn't even know it had likes! CZcams's weird.
It actually is a proper catamaran. Catamaran has nothing to do with the number 2. The word is derived from a word that just means "logs bound together".
@@MidwestFarmToys alright but guess what a boat with 2 hulls is called and guess what a boat with 3 hulls is called? Catamaran = 2 Trimaran = 3
@@liamnehren1054 a dual hull catamaran and a tri hull catarmaran

In KSP 1 the solution I used for connecting in multiple locations was to use docking ports.
They will connect the moment it launches, making a very stable connection.
...absolutely genius! 🤯
8:50 "That's a proper catamaran!"
...except it's a trimaran 😂
It's a catamaran too. The word catamaran has nothing to do with the number 2. It's derived from a word that just means "logs tied together"
I'm honestly SUPER impressed you actually got it to work. Well done!
How did Matt not say “shipnadoOoOoOoOoOoOo!”
I'm honestly amazed. This is probably the first KSP2 video where you tried to build something sensible and I loved it. 😂 Favourite so far!
i need to see blitz and intern beat it only for rce to claim it back
Matt plan an expedition to the north pole but any crevice or gap found that the vehicle can't cross you must make deployable bridges to get across.
Interestingly, the real world boat speed record, set by the Spirit of Australia, was over 317 MPH (141 m/s). Over double what RCE was able to get here!
I just tried and got 162.3 m/s
13:29 Matt: “ok, for some reason the back wings are inverted”
Me: that’s how aerodynamics work............
Good news! It looks like you have built James mays raft from the Vietnam special.
I'm getting more and more convinced that the devs put boats in just for us and set the water physics specifically for maximum entertainment!
Just some wholesome, non-euclidean fun.
"No, no, the boats work _fine,_ it's the water that's faulty..."
Hi Matt, I don't personally own a copy of KSP2 so I can't test this for myself, but I know there are Hydrogen tanks in-game and it'd probably make sense that they'd be less dense than the water. Maybe it's worth a shot to strap a bunch of them on?
Bill became a proper seakerbal
Heh, you thought I was gonna say seamen didnt you?
honestly RCE just don´t mess with hydrodynamics in ksp2 wait for the patchs
Actually Dennis has the speed record. Wouldn’t it be fun if you both dedicated all your time and content to besting one another in decimal point iterations.
Think we can safely assume records by Matt are his personal records :)
The Center of pressure you keep refering to is the center of drag/lift. Basically you wanna keep that behing the center of mass relative to the direction you wanna be going. The further the drag is behing the mass the more stable it is and the further it is to the mass the more manuaverable it is. Avoid having the drag in front of the mass cuz then ur vehicle will try to flip backwards. Ofcourse this is for rockets and plane. Probably the same for ships though xD
I couldn't believe it took winged keels to work. Lower the attack angle and the "boat" will level out
3:04 SHIP TORNADO and Kerbal's reaction lol
It moved nearly as fast without any propulsion as it did WITH it... Beautiful.
Matt in 2 years from now:
-***Today we are gonna beat the ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURIZED BALLOON GUN UNDERWATER IN A CHAMBER IN SPACE WHILE ROTATING AT 3 DEGREES PER SECOND TO THE RIGHT SOUTH SPEED RECORD***
Trying to build a boat you built a much better airplane than when you tried to build an airplane.
Looking at Kerbal's face at 3:05 got me laughing like WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON OUT THERE
Minecraft physics with floating trees and floating mountains somehow look more reassuring than KSP water physics...
Seeing matt just figuring out he can put things at the end of wings 😂
For context: on the Simpleplanes tutorial plane the engine nacelles are created by putting something on an end of a wing, and the tutorial is more than 5 years old I think
I find funny the fact that he always gets the control of the wings for going up and down mix up.
You mean that he pulls them up and that means the ship goes down?
If that how it works then it can be easily explained why he sinks so fast
its because in game "w" key is down and "s" key is up
7:55.the first time you used that I always thought it looked like a torso😂
He's doing every record in the world now
Yes exactly
Except the space record evidently.
The best sea shanties always end with "yah yaya yah does this count as a boat"
Keep up the great work with your content... can't wait to eventually see more Engetopia
The third option is that the game is broken, yes, but that the boat launch option was meant for missiles on a pre-existing boat that doesn't spawn
I love the way the twin engines "paddled" like legs.
Lol yeah, I don't think KSP 2 water physics are there yet.
Props to you for trying so hard! I'm stunned when people get fully working boats and submersibles working in KSP 1. (The KSP 2 devs still have a LONG list of missing features to add first though, water physics is probably at the bottom of their list right now)
Bill at 3:03 is just adorable!
I remember the early days of boating in KSP 1. We found out that you could slap air intakes on the bottom and they were buoyant for some reason.
1:15 “Underwater submarine”
- RCE 2023
At 6:30 you added a wolf wistle about how it looks like a torso and my bird copied it 🤣
"I don't understand what's going on..."
The Physics: Me neither, bro. I got nothing.
The Sea-men always try thier best
Matt after seeing his boat go backwards and stick to the wall verticaly "would that happen in real life"
Waiting for another episode of Timberborners be like

I think they have some work to do on the water system..... Great content!
Loved this, FYI catamarans have 2 hulls, tri-marans have 3… idk what you call a 5 hulled ship
Hey, the spinning is actually from the gyro/gimbal control inside the cockpit. Turn it off and it will stop. At least for me it did.
Bills face in the top right at 3:00 I can’t stop laughing
Threre is an Circumnavigation land speed record. Rules: you must stay in the atmosfere. You must circle kerbin. You must land on the runway.
god, watching these physics was so frustrating! You were trying so many different things that definitely should have worked
kerbal space program: hey that thing is a metal tube with nothing inside?
player: yes?
KSP: and it hit something under water?
player: yes?
KSP: so fiery explosion!
Good on you, KSP2 ! You can prevent at least some of Matt going full architect mode 😂
You’ve got the patience of a saint to deal with this mess.
UK Sea Agency... You mean like the royal navy?
Also it's amazing how your videos made me kinda forget that the UK Space agency is a real thing. In my head it's just some RCE lore now :D (And I'm a huge space nerd, so this is really weird)
I saw struts in the tumbnail and instantly looked forward to the strutting montage😅
The immortal words of the Philosopher Clarcksonius "POWAAAH"
Devs: let's spend months and millions making the physics of spaceflight perfect.
Matt: plays with fluid dynamics.
To be fair... don't add boats if you don't want people to make boats.
When you made a person and had him sink idk why but I literally died
Something tells me the water physics aren’t finished yet
We are going to strut! I expected the sexy, where was the sexy!? Good vid RCE!
A direct quote: "If its bigger and longer it must be more stable, right?"
Last time he couldn't even make a boat but now look
1. I wonder if the spontaneous movement in one direction is due to Kerbal spinning in the other direction?
2. Water in KSP2 is broken, I have literally turned on unbreakable joints and no crash damage, and still died on a light landing in the ocean. Craft just disintegrates, no crash damage be damned!
Thank you very much for the content. I look forward to your uploads each day. Tintfo atingihambeli kahle kulamalanga
Try seeing if you can see if prebuilt boats act if there are any
Instead of UK Sea Agency he should’ve gone with the Royal Navy
This game has very strange proportions, the boat looks miniature next to the docks and the docks look miniature compared to the terrain.
A classic theme where you trying to make it work in the whole video but it's that simple at the end 😅
That isn't the center of pressure
THAT IS THE CENTER OF LIFT
I know he's trying to build a boat, but it looks like he's building starwars vessels
Just remember, with enough vodka and kerosene, you can make a washing machine fly
Real Civil Emgineer is starting to get better at engineering vehicles
Now this is pod racing
You should make a amphibious vehicle.
You would think they would have gotten the physics working somewhat in a game about physics and engineering.
“If it’s bigger and it’s longer… it must be more stable, right…?”
1:09 ruffles kerman (i mean the youtuber) calls that the vortex of doom
In the bad part of my city, we have a real problem with the Meeethheads always robbing people to buy more Meeeth. My aunt Beeeth says my uncle Seeeth would never do meeeth.
That said, I hope your empty meeethane tanks work better next time.
Normal person: Find a way to make a boat that doesn't go haywire.
Matt: Let's add an engine and make it go forward to stop it sinking.
Try adding a keel. Similar to your fin under the water idea, but add weight to it. Maybe a full fuel tank?
hydrofoil was the way to go for sure, can you start on land then launch into the water?
I can't wait for Blitz to show Matt how it's really done
"is this why boats have anchors?" yes yes it is.
The defining difference between a jet engine and a rocket engine is that a jet engine uses air and a rocket engine uses oxidizer. As a result, there is no rocket engine that uses air because that would make it a jet engine.
Since you can load in water, are there not like pontoons or skis like a water landing plane would have? Maybe that would stabilize it?
The project should have been called : I sea speed! 😂
Loved the video.
i just heard your voice for 1 sec and have a smile on my face :D thx for your videos!!
and after 10 month again XD
3:00 it's phantom forces, it's the reason why you can't connect pieces back to themselves, this is what you get.
Since I've only watched RCE play this game, am sort of surprised a boat like vessel would be that challenging. What if Jeb wanted a craft to land on a water planet that could take off again? Your design would be something that could work for a scenario (if one exists) like it.
The Water physics are totally broken at the minute they're probably low down the list of things to patch too considering the amount of bugs
Rockets aren't used to power boats normally because it's a bit iffy, but I'm happy calling that a hydroplane.
Record set! 🙂👍
Let's see Scott Manley beat that... 🤣 (We love you Scott, Joy Division rock!)
Stratzenblitz beat the sea speed record on launch day, day 1.
He got to 45m/s without any propulsion, just using the "kraken-like physics" and putting 2 command pods together.
Just casually refreshing CZcams every 2 seconds waiting for the video to go live 😆
Love how after getting his land speed record utterly and thoroughly trashed by countless other CZcamsrs, RCE’s gone, “Okay yeah, but what about _on WATER?_
You conquered land, air and now the sea. the last element left is fire, for which you must go to the sun in blitz speed and of course fashion
Don't forget to play KSP1 ! WE STILL LOVE KSP1
