  • INVISIBLE WAFTER RIG! The Combi Rig! Perfect clear water WAFTER RIG for carp fishing! Mainline Baits
    Carp Fishing Rigs: The Combi Rig makes the perfect Wafter Rig for clear water conditions! Why?! The biggest reason is the fluorocarbon mono; nigh-on invisible in water and used to form the main length of the hooklink. Couple this with a soft braid section near the hook, and you have freedom of movement for the wafting hookbait - in this case a high attract Pastel Barrel Wafter! Add some putty for counter balance and you have a Wafter Rig that will react quickly and efficiently - turning carp investigation into secure hook holds and in turn, you catch more carp!
    From the Albright Knot used to join the hooklink materials together, to the lead systems used to connect the Combi Rig, we show you how to tie this Wafter Rig presentation with an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide!

    Don’t you find that the super natural is too supple and get lots of tangles or wraps around your flurocarbon... I found it to supple and get these problems so I started using the armour cord and found that to be much better and don’t get the hook hooking it’s self on fluro Carbon now 👍

    • @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV
      @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV  Před 3 lety +4

      Can't say I have had that problem, but yes, like you say a less supple braid will help - I do actually like to add a mini PVA mesh bag that adds a little weight and drag in the flight of the cast to stop potential tangles. Good tip though Allen - thanks!

    Hi John, thanks and nice vid! I’m going to a very rig shy carp lake in France this year and looking for something that would work. I like the look of the combi rig but wondering if it would work with some slow sinking maize as the carp tend to mouth the bait and drop if they don’t like it. With the flexibility of the braided part is the putty part heavy enough to flip the hook to self hook? Technically it looks like the sort of thing I’m looking for but wondering if you’d recommend this or something different? Cheers

    • @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV
      @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV  Před 2 lety +1

  • @jakeexley1947
    @jakeexley1947 Před 3 lety +2

    Hi John. I'm fairly new to making my own rigs. I have just tied the rig using the same components, but tried to use a 16mm wafter. The wafter lifted the hook link leaving the putty on the deck, rather than the hook link as shown. Is a 16mm wafter to big to use with a size 6 hook? Or could I trim the wafter down? Any help would be really appreciated 👍

    • @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV
      @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Jake, firstly squeeze the hookbait as firmly as possible without splitting it - this often expels any air in the hookbait allowing it to balance perfectly. Trimming it a little at a time is also a good method.

      Then followed by a hook bead, medium hooklink sinker on in the middle off the hooklink anti tangle sleeve to finish off, great rig hope this helps

    • @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV
      @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi, lots of fisheries don't allow the use of braid but do allow it as a hooklink so maybe double check the rules. If braid is out full stop then Bradley has a great suggestion below, or you could try the Spinner Rig with a wafter as a hookbait.

      @MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV  Před 3 lety

      Hi Andy, one little tip we picked-up from filming with Neil Spooner recently was he would create a crimped boom with a small loop at the hook end of the rig, and then tie a figure-of-eight-loop-knot in his soft bait section. He'd then attach to two materials loop-to-loop and neaten/cover the crimp loop with putty. It means you can then re-tie the braid/hook section and change without having to tie another boom section.
