My goodness, Pudge Rodriguez was EVERYWHERE in this NLDS against the Giants = hitting, catching balls on the dirt, holding on to the ball in the end in the collision, throwing runners out. WOW!!!

Giants have played four postseason games in that Marlins football stadium (two games in 1997 Division Series and two games in 2003 Division Series). And the Marlins have beaten the Giants in all four games in their last-at-bat = Game 1 1997 NLDS = walk-off-victory Game 2 1997 NLDS = Walk-off-victory Game 3 2003 NLDS = Walk-off-victory Game 4 2003 NLDS = Marlins took the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning, and then they ended the series in the top of the 9th inning on a dramatic final out.
After a hot stretch where they won 21 of their last 29 games to grab the Wild Card by 4 games over the Phils, the Florida Marlins (91-71) look to ride the wave against the team that led the NL West Wire-to-Wire at 100-61 (15.5 game margin): the San Francisco Giants. In Game 1 at PacBell Park, Josh Beckett pitched seven solid innings in which he fanned nine, allowed just one run and two hits. Trouble was, Jason Schmidt was even better. Schmidt cruised to a 2-0 shutout on a three-hitter and going the distance. Pierre and Castillo were a combined 0-for-8 in the game as the Giants took Game 1. The two tablesetters did get singles in the first inning of Game 2 for an early run for the Fish. But the Giants would take a 4-1 lead after four innings. This time, Florida responded with three in the fifth, and then three more in the 6th on Encarnacion's home run and a two-run double by Juan Pierre (which RF Jose Cruz misjudged). Pierre went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, drove in 3, and led the Marlins to a 9-5 win, and the two teams headed to Miami for a now best-of-three. At Pro Player Stadium for Game 3, Pudge Rodriguez shined. First, he hit a two-run home run in the first to get the scoring started. The Giants tied it in the 6th then took the lead in the 11th on Alfonzo's RBI single. They should have scored more, but they stranded 18 runners on base. Jose Cruz also dropped a routine fly ball to open the bottom of the 11th. That would prove huge, for with the bases loaded and two outs, in came Pudge again. Facing reliever Tim Worrell, Rodriguez went opposite field for a single, scoring two runs, and the Marlins pulled out a 4-3 win. Pudge drove in all 4 runs in this classic. Riding the wave, the Marlins jumped early to a 5-1 lead as the D-Train excelled on the mound, and at the plate, going 3-for-3 including a 5th inning triple. Perhaps, that last one seemed to tire Willis, as the Giants scored 4 in the 6th to tie it. No matter, Pudge was on 2nd with two outs in the 8th inning. Derrek Lee was on first. Miguel Cabrera hit a single to right, and Pudge raced home ahead of Cruz's throw. Pudge knocked the ball out of the catcher's glove for the go ahead run. Then, Lee raced all the way from first to score when Torrealba did not retrieve the ball (a la Ernie Lombardi in 1939). That extra run would prove pivotal for a double and a single scored a run for the Giants in the top of the 9th to make it 7-6. Two outs and a hit batter later, Urbina faced Jeffrey Hammonds with J.T. Snow on second. (Even though he was a slow runner, he had to run, since the Giants were out of position players). Hammonds looped one to left that fell in front of Conine in left. Snow tried to score, but Conine's throw was on target. Pudge anticipated the ball, and even though Snow knocked down Pudge trying to score, Ivan held on to the ball for the third out. Incredibly, the Marlins pulled it off, winning the series 7-6. Pudge was not letting go of that baseball. Well, he'll have to at some point, because the Marlins will now head to the NLCS and open up on the road. Question is: where to? As for the Giants, it will be 7 years before they get back to the postseason, but when they did, they would win it all. It was the first of three titles over 5 years.
To be fair, Luis Castillo was with the Marlins in 1997. He had 300 plate appearances that season. But he was not on the Marlins postseason roster. So both Conine and Castillo have rings from that season who are also on the 2003 Marlins
