We don’t ask people to hit us up message us privately telegram us WhatsApp us. There all scammers. Please don’t comment on this post 👌👍
Hiya Rob and Chris I've had a few of them messages and I ignore them love the channel keep doing what you do your videos always have great content to me you guys repair cars to the highest quality and standard and how they should be true professionals sadly some people try to cut corners great work well done guys ♥️👍👍
Stuart f St Albans do you have a cheep cheep jeepish vehicle I could purchase .
What part of DO NOT COMMENT on this post do you 2 not understand? I can read can’t you ?
Intensely bright teeth!
@@dipladonic are you obsessed with my teeth as that’s all you ever comment about. Just a heads up the show is about cars not me. Very sad
I think that noise is the crankshaft pulley damper they are renound for failing when left idle for long periods 👍🏻🏴
100%
I broke my back 2 weeks ago and I need as many videos on CZcams as possible. Such a good old yoke I love them How's the other old range getting on
Get well soon bud 👍
I like a good "let's save something from the scrapyard" story. We lose cars to time without noticing as they enter that 15-20yr old mark - we often ignore the mundane and unexceptional, and then only mourn when we realise what we've lost
I have a 2003 Volvo XC90 166,000 miles still really smooth and no issues
@@wisher21uk love a Volvo mate I use to have a 940 with 700.000 miles on sold it and owner says only last week it's at 825.000 miles I think it will reach a million
@@jamieeedden777 that’s amazing, I had and S60 before that was such a nice car, I just love em, the xc90 there are accidents and safety videos on CZcams they’re unreal, one guy hit a lorry head on and was still ok, and another lorry hit an xc90 the lorry driver fell asleep, car was a mess but the driver got out ok, other cars would of crushed like a can
I've never crashed a car but had one hit that Volvo of mine in the rear but I had a towbar it only scuffed the rubber cover that was over it but the car that hit me was totaled
Iv got an x reg Peugeot 106 95,000 miles, just got a zafria as I need 7 seats mrs is on my case to get rid of it and I really don’t want to, needs another of work and I’m sure some1 who knows what they are doing would love it.
This is "actually" one of my favourite channels on CZcams.. well done Chris and Rob 👍
Oh yes guys! Please to do a series on this, clean P38s are starting to get rare and creeping up in value.
Such a sad looking rangie. Glad you picked her up. It's a diesel but they are going up in value a bit since more and more ending on the yard. And being a DHSE in Epsom Green/sandstone leather helps. Also, the air compressor is electric don't need to rev it, just let it idling with access mode enabled the lowest setting and give the compressor time build pressure. If all bags are good and height sensors are healthy it should raise.
The air suspension compressor is also known to fail, which gives you the impression that one air suspension airbag s faulty, but it’s just the air Compressor not having the strength to keep all four bags inflated.
Open the tailgate or a door while the engine is idling and the pump is running - that'll give it time to charge the reservoir with the bags empty because EAS is disabled by a door/tailgate/bonnet open signal. A healthy pump should fill it up in about 8 minutes or so from nothing. Shut the door and watch her rise up in 1-2 seconds. Or not :)
I really really love this channel, you guys are so authentic and true it is great, usually when this type of channel starts gaining traction and becoming successful they change, all of a sudden the Astons and the Ferraris start to flow, you guys are going the opposite way and it is really great to see, the content you can relate to as a viewer, it is a vital ingredient that a lot of successful channels completely miss.
What a fantastic relic to find, great to see if breathe life again and I really think it will not be too shabby at all by the time it has had a decent wash, that rattle has to be a pulley or tensioner no way it is engine mechanical running that well, it wants to live! Looking forward to seeing future videos on this and as ever guys, great content, thank you and have a great weekend :)
This if why we refuse to buy for content and just film our job 👍
@@sruk Well said lads that's why we all come here.👍
Well said ! The exact reason I subscribed and don't miss a video !! I've gained a lot of knowhow myself from here ! Know what you are getting into and don't be afraid to go for it - its not the destination its the journey and Rob and Chris document this so well !!
True, when those higher end cars come through on channels, that ends up losing my interest really. There's been a couple of channels which have done this, and have pretty much stopped watching them a while ago. But here, they keep it real, with things that are more realistic & interesting i think
@A Hussain ive been watching every upload religiously for about 2 yrs now. It most definitley wasnt the ferrari that brought me to the channel. It was my ex trader uncle who recommended id watch them as in his ill health he was at home just waiting for the next video.
Brand new second hand battery! As soon as I hear that I know it’s going to be a cracker 😂😂😂🤦🏼♂️
Wants a tshirt making with it on 😂
Part worn.
Wow, this is going to be a great series, it’s going to look stunning once cleaned. I was hoping you were going to give it a quick jet wash on this episode….another cliffhanger, I love it, great content as always guys.
Yes scammer online pls been careful
love Chris for that sense of humour, brilliant, what a cracking freebee can't wait for the clean up hopefully see her back to her former glory😎😎
Guys, nice video. Few corrections. The bmw m51 engine has an electrockly regulated rotary injection pump. On bmw-s there is no supply pump only an one in the tank which levels the amount of fuel in the tank on both sides. Recently watched a video, a bloke in Ireland has tha same car, and the horrible sound was the crankshaft pulley. It is mad of 2 pieces seperated with a rubber padding to absorbe some vibrations. If it gets old, it seperates and makes this noise. Should be an easy fix. These engines are pretty good, but they are very eensitive to being revd when cold. The head can crack. So be jentle with it. Good luck, it will be an amaising youngtimer!
I am sure there is money to be made with this project. Someone will be very happy to have it in their driveway. In the states older diesel trucks are selling for more than they were new, because of the reliability, "get you home" toughness, and simplicity of design.
Can't wait to see it cleaned up.
Great video as always Rob and Chris love seeing a car thats been abandoned brought back to life. Even if you only clean it up and give it a service it could be a project for somebody.
Just catching up tonight on the entire week's videos. I have to say 3 of the most enjoyable ever but today is definitely my favourite. I am a big fan of this generation of Range Rover and Rob is correct they have a big following and it will not be long before these start going up in value as they become a classic. So from me thanks for saving another car from the crusher and a car that is worth saving for sure. Brilliant Rob and Chris
The P38 is just starting to come of age...good timing. HOWEVER can I remind you about your classic RR lwb that still needs finishing....I'm sat here Patiently Rob. Interesting stuff boy's.
That noise is most likely the crank pulley /crank damper on the front of the engine. If you look at the CZcams channel called Sam's Motor and Machine and look at his video entitled I found the cause of the noisy engine I think that will be helpful to you. Great video, these are massively underestimated cars. I have had one since 2001 and still do. Current one is most of the way through a restoration project.
Have worked on and tinkered with these for years so if there is anything you get stuck on, give me a shout. I'll do what I can to help.
I had the same kind of noise on my old freelander with the bmw engine. I found that the dampener on the crankshaft pulley was split.
Great content as usual 👍
Looks like it will clean up well 👍 that rattle sounds like some sort of heat shield. As always awesome work guy's 👏
Its sounds exactly like a chain tensioner I replaced in my wife's FPace.
@@someone28 - Chain tensioner usually gets worse when revving to 1500RPM's this one goes as soon as it's off idle. Also, the chain tensioner is worse when cold and gets quieter when the oil begins to warm up.
The heat shields on my Subaru do the same thing at low revs where the bolts have broken away from the shields making them loose so you could well be correct :)
@@lukey3507 In my experience they get quieter with revs as the oil pressure increases and takes up the slack. Depends on whether its an oil pressure controlled tensioner though.
Thats a good guess I think its the heat Sheild too
Cheers guys for getting a P38 on the channel, like Chris said there is a big following for these classics and you are making a lot of enthusiasts very happy right now. Keep up the great work 😊👍🏻
I told u lads , you are the automotive Steptoe & Son lol. Love you’re enthusiasm in everything you do.
Just gotta love robs enthusiasm🙂👍great quick job there guys and look forward to seeing it all cleaned up inside and out, cheers👍
Nice mix of videos this week guys. Learned a lot this week. Have a good weekend all!
I love the way Rob was so confident of the brakes he stood behind the fence while Chris drove it up and down!! 🤣 Great car though, nothing beats old school mechanicals, basic tools and ............... Chris !!! another great video chaps.
My father-in-law (82 yrs old ) just watched an episode ( he,s an old Burner / Corker from shipyards in N.E. ) & was very impressed with Chris & his skills...back in the day down yards you could get anything repaired / fabricated / adapted etc...all different trades had their own " huts " / workshops " in yards on wat was called Burma road... the old boy said Chris must hav been properly schooled & trained on the Burma road ???... or...similar ???...thats a massive compliment from a time served pro like him 👌
Fantastic video !!
As a valeter, that will clean up well, and will look so different!!
Certainly add value !!
Love you two doing something different once a week !!
Hi rob and chris. I have had one of these as a rolling project since november last year.
The rattling noise will most likely be the crank pulley, the air not coming up fast enough will most likely be a weak compressor, check the air intake filter on the compressor and make sure its not blocked, you can screw it off completely to test if you like
That M51 is pretty bombproof. As it is a turbo it will be a TDS.
It was used in 3, 5 and 7 series between 1998 and 2001 in BMWs , Opel Omegas 2.5ds between 1995 and 2001 plus these Range Rovers from 1995 to 2001.
A relatively simple engine, relaible and torquey.
Had that engine in a couple of BM’s and a Vauxhall Omega quite a few years ago, super reliable, about 140hp and mid 30’s mpg.
Always fancied a Range Rover with it and a manual gearbox.
Good work guys.
What a find! Worth a clean and a bit of time investigating. It will have a value to someone somewhere. Look forward to the next bit of the story. Cheers.
You could always park it on top of the other one! Should be really interesting to see how it cleans up. Check the boot floor very carefully, known rust spot, also check the tailgate completely. Keep up the great videos.
Really looking forward to, hopefully, see it rescued brought back to fullish glory and back running. These are the 'resurections' I love to see and where Salvage Rebuilds really shines.
Great video lads. When Chris took Robs phone but held it wrong way, a lot of channels would edit that out but that’s why you are so relatable, it’s real life and real car fixing and selling 👍
What a cracking save from you pair. I'm not surprised it took little effort and time to get it running as those engines are brilliant for their time and also very reliable. These are one of the OG SUVs so it definitely needs saving and I look forward to what you guys do with it next 🙂
That’s amazing you can dig it out and get it running so quickly, will be interesting to see what Athena rest of it is like!
Spoiler alert........... LOL
You guys never fail to amaze me how you get these non runners started would like to see the other one you are restoring collecting dust done well done rob and chris
Can't wait to see the clean up on this one. Always a bonus when you can save an old car, good news that the suspension works, that will save you a small fortune.
What a find!! Following your excellent work right through on this one and I'm sure you'll deservedly achieve a nice little profit as it's such a great vehicle.
Thanks for bringing back memories. I had one of these. Heater matrix could be reason while it’s constantly blowing air. Had issues with head gasket with mine, so check the thermostat sticking as it was the cause. In the end had the engine replaced using one from a Vauxhall omega. Learnt so much on this car, definitely a future classic. Keep the quality videos up guys!
My Omega (2000) 2.5 diesel is still going great guns at 180,000 miles. Chain cam, of course.
I have a 2000 manual version of this with the same engine that I bought for peanuts. Putting an M57N engine and GS6X53DZ 6 speed manual gearbox into it this winter will be starting that project this time next month. Great video.
Glad you brought that one home and are saving it….. you guys get so pumped when you get them up and running and it’s infectious, can’t wait to see the first wash……
That's going to be a tidy motor when cleaned have a great weekend guy's 👌👌👌
As always great video, especially when Chris realises he is recording lol. I’m 99.9% sure that noise is the crankshaft dampener, prone to failing when stood and not too bad a fix, be interesting to find out exactly what it is when you get round to it. That car will clean up lovely and doesn’t look like a lot of rust in it. Here is to looking forward to its first wash 🤞
I’ve said it a lot before but it really is the variety that makes this channel. The attainable stuff like this appeals as much as the aspirational content like the Lambo and some of the more specialised work.
What a great find by Rob and Chris. I am almost certain that she will clean up very well indeed. You certainly don't see that many of that generation of Range Rovers about & I definitely would say " Suit's you Sir" to Chris as he looks @ home behind the wheel of the Range Rover. Here's to the next episode.
Love a P38 nice find lads never disappoint sence my mum passed in July this is one of the rare things that makes me feel normal watching your channel your 2 honest hard working guys and I have much respect for you
@jaimee edden deepest condolences to you on the loss of your mum
@@life_happens_reviews thankyou what I find hard to cope with is mum was only 46 that's no age at all and the fact she died in hospital and not at home with me like she wanted
All the best bud

Looks like it could be another result guys, once it's had a bloody good wash, smells like profit is coming your way, another great video looking forward to seeing what happens next 👍, have a good weekend guys
I love all your videos but this has been one of the best. I think these Metrocab Rangies are becoming proper classics and this one deserves some more love. Might have to start looking for one myself. Thanks chaps once again.
This is going to be one of the best series! Love will it run videos and abandoned veichle resurrections! Keep up the good work! Greetings from Milan, Italy.
You 2 are like kids with a new toy, great to see👍
Suspect alt side
I’ve replaced a few tensioners on them p38 units
Also the heater resistor may have gone check the connectors first, dash out on them are a 19 hour job.
I cut my teeth on these when I was at LR
As ever love the vids guys keep up the good work
Wow what a freebie 👌🏼 love how youse dived into it to get it running etc .. can’t wait for next video of it getting cleaned etc 👌🏼 keep it up Rob and Chris love the vids !!!
This is going to be an exiting series, love RR ‘s. You are the dynamic duo who will sort this one out. This is a sought after Rangie. 👍👍👍👍👍✅✅✅✅✅
That sound sounds like the crank dampener to me Rob.
Also the suspension fault is probably the air compressor, you can get rebuild kits for them👍
I never figured out why the P38's got a name for being unreliable, I mean it's not like any other Land Rovers have ever got a name of being reliable. And how many more decades will it be before Land Rover can make a roof lining that stays up?
Hello Rob and Chris, what a nice find, you two will get it sorted, looking forward to seeing it getting cleaned. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Great video Rob & Chris, looking forward to the next episode on this already.
Love the saying, Brand New Secondhand
In another life, would have loved to be your apprentice. Learn so much just watching as an amateur mechanic. Keep up the good work and content.
I’m loving the random new content/videos 👍
Keep up the great work lads!
Such a great find Rob,love the P38 and cant wait for the rest of the rebuild :D
Love the P38! The DHSE was pretty rare and only appeared towards the end of the run. Most of them were much lower spec. Great video and hope all goes well with it.
By the way...I make a cracking cup of coffee..I,m very clean & hygienic...& ...my bacon & egg sarnies ( cooked over a car bonnet ) are better than any fancy London 5☆ gaff...of course our lass will disagree 😉...Cracking show lads...Very Addictive & Real 👏👏
Great job Rob and Chris with the free Range Rover, it will be interesting if you do anymore videos on it.
Hardest will it stop! Comedy timing is impeccable! Looking forward to this one!
I had one of these 15+ years ago (poverty spec - cloth upholstery & manual transmission) on an "N" plate. Loved it to bits. Did have to replace all the suspension air bags and only sold it because I got a Discovery 3 for an absolute steal of a price. Will be watching developments on this one with interest.
Hope there'snot too much bird poo on it, Bangers & Cash had a Capri on recently where the poo had dried on and was a right pain to get off
I am really looking forward to further videos on this one, I do like seeing cars being brought back from the brink.
What a great week for content from you both. For me this is the best one yet, it has everything, abandoned car for free, it's a Range Rover, will it run, and as Chris put it, will it stop, I can't wait to see you do a clean up video on it, it looks as though it'll be lovely under all that moss. This one can't fail to make you a healthy Bob or two. Great work! 👍
Think Chris was enjoying going up and down the yard in that. That cheeky little grin he had when you went over.
As always great video Rob & Chris. Really looking forward to this one.
Thanks again Rob and Chris. I’m a sucker for a good ‘resurrection’ video. And I know this is going to be a great one!
Worth a punt on getting it up and running.... A growing following on these!
Honestly the last few video's, variation of, top notch guys. Still love how you get so excited on a will it run vid!
My favourite car. I have had two of these, one of them reached 230k miles. They are going up in price for a decent one
Great to get a finished video of the range rover towing the boat to its 1st sea trial, perfect viechle to tow the boat
Bringing the beast back to life, great video and down to earth viewing which beats all the TV programme's keep up this good work.
When Chris floored it I thought you was going to need a new fence. 👍🏻 that noise is going to be something silly that’s had no oil and stuck. When you floor it the sound goes. That’s a classic great to see it not being scrapped 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love seeing these absolute legends being given a second chance to go again 👏🏻👏🏻
Well done boys!! Can't wait to see where you go with this beastie!!
Great video! Already looking fwd to “Part2”!! Cheers
I've always been tempted every time one of these is for sale when they come up. I love the shape of a bricky old Range Rover for some reason
Another cracking video again fellas looking forward to see 👀 it cleaned up and what issues it has got 👍. I am sure you 2 will sort out cannot wait to see the next one 👍. Take care 😀 stay lucky and healthy.
Hi Rob, I had that model of car over 20 years ago, loved the car but for one thing.
The engine would turn over when starting, but wouldn’t fire up, the battery would take a hammering and go on charge every six months.
Sometimes it would run for a month trouble free. Took it back to Land Rover dealership and got the shrug shoulder and the “we don’t know” response. Never bought a Land Rover since.. 100% Mitsubishi 4 wheel drive cars since then, no grief.
Hi Rob and Chris, looking forward to how it cleans up, got to say, after standing so long it impressed with how easily it started tbh. Alex.
Hi Rob and Chris, great vid think you have an absolute diamond there, can't wait to see clean up vid and diagnostic vids, keep up the great work 😀

This is what Salvage Rebuilds do best
Yessss what a belter im getting as excited as Rob now want the next video already 👏👏
Looks like a good find. Nice to see an engine as an engine should be. I'm sure that'll clean up nicely and you'll get it running to perfection. Thanks for another great film
I've had my P38 years and the first thing you need is the EKA code. Its gone through a few engines and is one of the slowest vehicles I've owned but is a handy tool. Chance the ABS relay for a new genuine one as they're not expensive and a very common issue.
Nice one! Great to see a P38 getting some love. I spent the summer rebuilding the engine in my 4.6 P38 ❤️
That’s a belter guys. That will clean up really well.
Another great video, and an interesting vehicle and problem to investigate .

The best way to finish the working week off with a new video for us, thanks guys 😎
Well done 👍, so impressed by the ability of you both for getting the land rover running!! Now waiting for the next video and to see the results of a good clean. Best wishes from Lincolnshire
Can't remember how much BMW was in these, but BMWs of the same vintage ran the heater on high when the resistor pack for the blower motor failed. This was a super common issue. On air suspension, you need to make sure you don't have any leaks, else the compressor will run constantly and it will burn out in short order. You can spray soapy water on all the air bags to check for leaks. When they sit a long time with the air bags deflated, they can form cracks on the creases.
