  • Ever wondered what a Nissan VK56DE 5.6L Alloy V8 With ITB'S & a custom exhaust sounds like?
    On this episode of The Skid Factory the Hulkosuka gets bolted up to the Dyno where we gain some great results BUT also show up some flaws that will need to be addressed before a final figure can be found.
    It's all part of the journey with a big build like this so join us in the process.

Reality is that MCM is/was their side gig, they're car enthusiasts not mechanics, and having the humility to let the skills of Benny, Alan etc shine through is surely enough to earn them kudos. I will never understand why people demand any more than this from them.

    • @MiGujack3
      @MiGujack3 Před 2 lety

      @@hambo6713 Because they are more than capable to build something really good, by themselves. Saying they are not mechanics is straight up bs. Like why would they buy a shop and be called MIGHTY car MODS in the first place? I would also like to add that we don't see their old projects driven. There is no NEED to build something new, but we don't see that type of content either.
      I'm glad I found MCM back in the day, but now other channels are surpassing them fast (content wise, not subs), like this one.

    Considering the amount of work that's been done on this car, it's fricken AMAZING that there is only the one issue. Bloody hell, I've put stock factory parts onto a completely bog stock car and still had stuff not work properly afterwards - once you get into mods it's a whole different ball game. Respect fellas. That's a job very well done.

  • @NovoGold
    @NovoGold Před 2 lety +50

    I know you guys all know each other eg.. yoda, the tuners etc... but I really appreciate how friendly and down to earth they are in explaining the issues. I've come across tuners that are a real disappointment as far as, they won't dyno the car unless they built the engine, or that they want certain tech specs completed before they will touch it eg.. certain fuel pumps, injectors etc... and then some that down right are rude, treat you as though you have no idea what's going on.... To many tuners these days that think they are some sort of all mighty God...
    It's good to see someone out there that is willing to share their knowledge and problem solve with the owner in a light hearted manner.

      There’s a good amount of truth there, but you also can’t blame them for being picky sometimes. There’s a lotta Almighty God “engine builders” out there too, and one little f$&kup can cause $20k worth of damage pretty quick , with some finger pointing and blame happening even quicker.

    • @NovoGold

      @@playwme3 totally agree mate, some guys forget that not every customer can afford $5k+ for some mods to get a tune done. I can understand if someone is wanting to push the boundaries etc, but a lot of guys expect best of everything even for a lower end tune.

      Agreed for the most part, however working in this field, I also won't dyno anything that is built by someone I don't know and/or doesn't meet certain criteria. The graph of the oil pressure looks like the spring in the prv of the oil pump is bouncing. A shim under the spring/a stronger spring may be a simpler solution to having to redesign your whole oil setup. Certainly be worth a try anyway. This thing sounds incredible ❤️ p.s never stop the outtakes ❤️

    • @theskidfactory
      @theskidfactory  Před 2 lety +22

      We think the oil is foaming with increased engine rpm and the aeration causes pressure loss. There was no issue on the engine dyno.

      @@theskidfactory Was it on ITB’s on the engine dyno or the carby setup? The incredible sounds it is producing would also create significant harmonics. Springs really don’t like harmonics. Al’s experience on these things would be far greater than my own though, I just thought I’d say it to put the idea in his head as a possibility. Whatever his computer comes up with will be the correct answer I have no doubt about that. I have seen harmonics to play havoc with pump springs before. Look forward to hearing this thing roar at its full potential.

  • @ae86racer007
    @ae86racer007 Před 2 lety +24

    Judging by the way the oil pressure situation improved with the removal of the "strainer" I would say the suction line before the pump is a combination of "too long" and "too small". You may find you don't need to overcomplicate the oil system too much with extra tanks and things if you can get the suction side of things to the oil pump fixed up.
    The fittings and things used in the suction line will be creating various choke points also, I think you would find an improvement upsizing everything significantly. I would be looking at the original pickup it had and ensuring that you have a diameter no smaller than it at any point. I would also be considering the size of the "strainer". Most OEM suction strainers are much larger than the small oval cutout in that tube.
    But hats off on the result so far, sounds MINT, good luck with the rework on the oil stuff. All I know is custom oil systems are a massive headache.

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony Před 2 lety +2

      This is what I was thinking as well. There is too much pressure drop between the pickup in the oil pan and the oil pump. A bigger diameter hose and tube coupled with a more "flow friendly" pickup opening will probably help.

    I don't know if you're having the same issue as we had on the race boat. But at high engin rpm, the high volume oil pump was actually sucking the pan dry. It presented itself the same way. The oil wasn't able to return to the pan fast enough. So we restricted the oil to the top end and opened the return passages in the head.

It is a lot harder to see such a thing in a car compared to when I ran that engine on an engine stand, but maybe it could help diagnostics. The wheels certainly are distinctive, and most definitely not subtle. They give the car a very sharp character. And the sound of the engine is heavenly. Great job!

    A new Patrol drove past me the other day and I instantly thought of the Skid factory Huka. Such a cool car and SF work is top. Go Gav.

    I think you might have a hard time getting it to run fairly equal without a scoop on the hood. As it is now, the rear intakes will be starved because of the angle. The air coming over the bonnet will get to the forward intakes, but won't turn down into the bonnet to supply the rest. On the dyno it'll be fine as it is drawing in stationary air, but at varying speeds, you'll have different amounts of air going into each intake.
    My old Honda CB has this issue, as do all carbed 4 inlines. As you move your legs, you change how the air moves along the bike and if it gets to the carbs. The best solution is still the OEM airbox with minor mods or a breadbox style. Those are essentially what's on the intakes right now, but with a lid and mesh. They're taped upmost of the way around, so it equalises the air going in and have a steady flow. Very different engines, but the problem is the same: all intakes need equal pressure to have the it run with a steady AFR.
    The most common solution is a scoop, as you make it into a ram air intake which is easier to tune for.
    A possible issue with the cavitation might be that the line from the sump to the pump is too small. If the pump can't get enough fluid through, it'll start to create bubbles but they're a vacuum inside, which then foams up the oil as they collapse.

      A bit different with a carb as it requires air velocity through it to draw the fuel. Not such an issue with efi.

      Crazy if you think you will air pressure like that.

      A possible cure would b to split the intake hood into four Two for each of the front trumpets and two for the rear keeping the volume and area of the opening to same more work but worth a go

      @SuperTambo69 Před 2 lety

      It'll suck more air in than push it, so the angle wont matter. Those filters will be restrictive though

      Make a split intake two for the front four trumpets two for the rear four
