Great video! Would love to see more assembly videos this clear and concise
Glad to see the 22R/E getting some CZcams love. I've got an early RE in my '84 Celica and there is a serious lack of love on modern media compared to other engines.
Best video on the internet as I am rebuilding my first 22RE motor on my 1985 Celica GT
Thank you this info is gold to me! Just bought a celica and it was leaking bad, realized that it’s missing 3 of the big bolts that hold it the cover on! Hopefully this solves my leaking issue!
You’re a hero. Thanks for the video and keep them coming!
Thanks for a very timely video! No pun intended.
Thank you for the bolt information, it helped greatly
Glad it helped
Been going between a 79, 83 and 85 FSM as well as a Haynes and wasn't able to get all of this info. I have been measure holes before finding bolts as mine came pre disassembled. Thanks for making that chart.
Glad to help!
Toyota fans yes we are number one every time we drive or 4RUnner’s
Wow you really stepped your game up! Good work.
Thanks!
@6thgeargarage you are the man!
You’re a life saver
Dude thank you!!
You bet!
Awesome bought an engine and truck from someone who tore it apart and didn’t want to put back together and he just threw the bolts in a big bucket.
Extremely helpful! I went through your library and I see you have a breakdown of a 22r engine but not A full details rebuild. I want to do a rebuild but Most videos out ther skip a bunch of steps.
I plan on doing a full rebuild one of these days... I have too many projects!
I swear im inside a motor that's been taken apart before. I didnt think so initially, but my four large 14MM bolts are opposite of this. Two have two washers and two have just one. Three are the same length and one is SHORTER. Really troubled bc the guides are definitely original. 84 Celica.
Awesome video! I do have one question tho, how are those two water pipes sealed, is there some sort of pre-made gasket? Or do you just use silicone?
Thanks! There is a small gasket that goes on the flange.
Quick question! I’m doing a timing kit today and have most of the motor disassembled. I’m trying to get the crank bolt off using the bump start method. Do you know if I can bump it while the distributor shaft is removed?
Thanks for your time and experience.
That should be fine, as there just will be no spark. I actually have a video of doing the bump start on a 22r pickup: czcams.com/video/GCE3P8AD2rI/video.html
Hello, can you help me with the diagram of the distribution cover, which is rebol, and the screws, I no longer remember where each one of them went?
What engine do you have?
What's the bolt length for the AC bracket bolts that go on the bottom right? do you know?
Sorry, I do not know the length of those bolts.
Would you happen to know the 22RE torque specs for the chain guide and tensioner?
I just looked through the factory repair manual for my 1985 and it's not listed. I would guess 16 or 20 lb ft
@@6thGearGarage I found it. Chain Guides: 16 ft-lbs/22 N-m and Tensioner: 14 ft-lbs/19 N-m. This is only for the 22 R-E engine.
Do the coolant pipes need a gasket or RTV?
Yes, either one will work.
Is it possible to use the same cover for convert to dual timing Chaín, same oil and water pumps, with just replace the oil pump driver gear?
I've never done the conversion, but it looks like there may need to be some custom work done to the cover, maybe clearance issues? www.lceperformance.com/22R-RE-RTE-LCE-Dual-Row-Timing-Chain-Conversion-Ki-p/1015012.htm
@@6thGearGarage in some forums people say that is direct fit but I do not know, I have a friend whom has a toyotas yunkyard, I am going to compare timing covers (single and dual) and mount timing sets to see if any modification Is needed
I have just received the LCE kit and the cover has some differences against the OEM
PLEASE buy a metric ruler, this whole engine is metric and inch measurements are redundant ;) Great video mate.
I actually have one, but most of my viewers are here in the US and US doesn't like metric for some reason. Cheers!
@@6thGearGarage yeah I know, was just busting yourchops mate. They're sneaking it in over there though.
a lot of the toque value you provided here are incorrect!
Do you have a link to download the diagram?
Oh I suck, forgot to put it in the description... It's there now!
@@6thGearGarage nah you’re good, thank you.
this is legit the worst part about rebuilding a 22re. what's even worse is a/c and non a/c trucks have different length timing cover bolts.
And I never even knew that... good info- thanks!
@@6thGearGarage yep. it kinda sucks. my 22rs never did me wrong but I am really happy I opted to engine swap my pickup. no more timing chain shenanigan's
Did you go 3.4?
@@6thGearGarage nope a 2.7L 2tr-fe from a 2015 Tacoma. I have a few (mediocre) videos covering the swap on my channel if you are curious.
He goes way too fast at grabbing bolts out and talking.
There's a chart you can download in the description... Or you can slow the playback speed on the YT player if you're watching while trying to reassemble your 22RE ;)
