Unlike in this video, always put the motor at top dead center, before removing the chain. Do not remove the Woodruff key from the crank ever, unless it is damaged and needs to be replaced. This way the motor always stays in time and replacing the chain is easily done, without bending any valves when you rotate the motor out of time.
I LOVED this video. I appreciate the time you guys took and for outlining some of the ways to save time and make things easier. Friendly bunch of guys made this a pleasure to watch. Thanks again fellas! For a moment, I thought from the camera angle that the 22RE was going in the Chevy in the background. I'm gonna have to subscribe to you guys as a result of this video!
That timing chain cover came off too easily, probably because it lacked gasket maker paste between the oil pan and the timing chain cover, and between the cylinder head and the timing chain cover.
All of the people saying this is wrong are absolutely hilarious to me because we literally drove this truck all the way to Las Vegas and back this past winter, with this very engine, and it had absolutely 0 issues lol. Not an interference engine either. And it was pretty much right on the money as far as timing goes. Oh well. If you don’t like it maybe look at the channel name lol. It’s chop it n roll, not “do everything by the book exactly how it should be done” lol. Just wait til y’all see some of the other stuff we do 🤣
Good video man I appreciate it. the assembly was easy to understand … I’m going to comment on the key issue as I see some ppl are whining about it ….. Cmon ppl if you don’t realize one needs to be there or what shape it should be in before replacing it I suggest you stick to bikes and recheck your kids brakes …. Morons 🐔 I bought a timing kit with a metal guard drivers side only also came with a plastic one .. I opted for the metal one and used two oil pan short bolts to bolt the metal guide on .. It never came with the proper bolts …. Good video man
I think this video is made to deliberately cause viewers grief. There is no reason to remove the Woodriff key. Also he shows removing every bolt on disassembly but skips everything on reassembly including the woodriff key. I would not trust any video from these folks.
What the hell just happened on this video....? Wher was Top Dead Center...? No reason to remove the woodruff key!!?? Where is the woodruff key? This is the most purposeless diy video ever....

Well said Alex.
He didn't even install a new or the old Woodruff key. Glad I read this Comment.
Thanks Alex there's always some little detail that got left out in these how to videos making them somewhat useless.

The 22r is not an interferential engine. You wont bend the valves it is out of time.
Jeez, great disassembly video, but if someone inexperienced follows this, they're gonna regret it.

I was hoping you would show this when you put it back in
Thanks man helped a lot 👍
Lots of totally skipped steps here. Informative though. Thank you, Jim
If the chain breaks on a 22r /re does it bend the valves?
dude you didnt replace the woodruff key is this a joke?
Bet this had timing issue when trying to start
to say the least
Great video!
What about the woodruff key
do you have to put a dab of rtv on one of the bolt threads that goes through the timing chain cover
Yes you do, it's the long one that goes through the oil pump.
You didn't show how you slid the timing chain cover between the head and oil pan,,, put it back on as easily as you did it off,,,
saw this on the back of a truck, presumably yours
He knows the prices cause he had to pay for it all...;)
Sorry this is wrong do not use this for assembly!
Why be sorry? When something ain't right, it just is what it is.
That timing chain cover came off too easily, probably because it lacked gasket maker paste between the oil pan and the timing chain cover, and between the cylinder head and the timing chain cover.
when you took off the cover,,, I could tell the engine wasn't even on tds,,, you guys,,, remember everyone you have to be nice,,,

Except the 22re is an interference engine
Chop an roll , at least you should not roll the pipe before you do this ,,,
THX.
When’s the next episode coming out?
Quit steering people in the wrong direct because it's very costly.

Jesus dude take this down. If you can't do it right don't teach others who don't know any better.
11:55 not 12:05
