      I have a torn left pectoral. I'm assuming it is the minor. Never got it fixed. It happened doing very wide dips in prison like the first day. Def. Wasn't going to be an experiment so I left it. Developed a pretty good physique but I can't lean into my shoulders like that

    Just improved my pushups watching this. i could never do 2/3 reps without flaring my elbows out. Just did 10 reps with proper technique 🙌

      Even to avoid rsi in my job where I have to move around heavy stuff and squat or bend to reach things at the back of shelves. His videos are a goldmine of different and optimized approaches to more safely use the body for longer.

    Ive been waiting so many videos on how to do push ups. I stopped getting gains from pushups months ago, i dont really feel my chest either. But i didnt what you said in this video just now and holy shit, i aftually felt my chest for once. I have to save this. My chest hasnt had gains for months and i didnt see anyone say this in the 20 half a hour long push up videos i saw 😂

      Nothing to do with form. Bodyweight pushups will only build you out of the rookie stage. Get weights or do harder variations.

      I'd give incline bench press a go! The bigger range of motion from using dumbbells + the angle will engage your pecs more (mostly upper pecs)

    Best pushup advice ever. Learned the hard way over years. Army definitely didn't teach this 😂 Something about having torque on my pinkie side (&maybe tucking elbows while torqued) has made all of the difference in the world to me.

    Thank you. I’ve watched many push up videos and I’ve always seen that you should not flare out your elbows; however, I’ve NEVER seen a video about rotating your elbows in to avoid the flare out. Thank you so much. My shoulders appreciate it.

    What works for me is doing pushups with my hands gripped on dumbbells in the north/south position. No pinches or pains, and allows me to go lower for a great stretch.

    Thank you for this, I’m looking forward to putting this new info into practice. I’ve never been able to do push-ups very well (my wrists and shoulders would hurt after just a few) and was always fairly confident I had a problem with my form, but no way of knowing what I was doing wrong. It sounds like this could be be a solution though.

    For years I did pushups with the flared out arm position. No one ever told me for years I was doing them wrong until one day one of my newer friends said I did them weird. I thought he was just being an ass, so it still took me a few more years to find out what the proper technique was (this was in the early years of the internet when such helpful videos like this were pretty rare). Now I'm way stronger and built than before and my shoulders don't get injured as easily. A shame PE teachers or anyone else in a position to teach didn't bother teaching something as simple as this decades earlier.

    Thanks for this. I stopped wide push ups but still got injured. Ended up quitting working out because of this. After 6 years of flaired elbow push-ups, and messed up shoulders. I just did 10 proper push ups and I finally feel my chest working and my shoulders arent clicking.

    I always hated pushups becsuse it woild hurt my wrists tremendously but this technique seems like it will help! Great tutorials and checking my shoulders will always be part of my push up check list!

    When the hand was shown, I immediately understood the difference. I definitely recall applying that pressure to my thumb and inner hand rather than the outside at all.

    I always found it funny how I used to not be able to do one push-up to one day finally doing one and my form was perfection. My friend wanted to correct me on the form like he always does, but he couldn't say nothin' to that, lol.

      Pushups where you don't touch your chest off the floor are not good push-ups. If that is so hard for someone then they should just do push-ups in an incline, not cheat the form so you lose the hardest part of the exercise
