If I ever need work on my Allison I'm driving 14 hours to their shop, that's the only guy I would ever want working on my trans. Amazing.
Or just be a man and do it youself
Smokey Burnout2500hd Rebuilding transmissions are actually pretty easy did it on my truck zero problems
Erick S yea, people just don’t know how to be thorough... always looks for a quick fix instead of taken the extra few steps to find the point of failure
Hes not the only one this good trust me. Worked alongside a guy named scott for a few years In Florida when i lived there. You could tear every piece of a 1000 series down while he was gone leave every piece sitting on the table plus or minus a few pieces and he could put it all back together and tell you what's missing or added without an issue. But that's all he did all day long was allison trans theres lots of guys that are very particular in their work and do a truly good job
damn he's only 40 minutes away from me lol
My dad always said "a true master makes his craft look easy". I'd say this man qualifies!
Love this guy, very good transmission builder. Very solid explanations, quick yet precise and a very rare trait, comfortable being watched.
The amazing thing is that someone came up with the design of this transmission and all the working parts to play together to move you forward. Lots of engineering its mind blowing
and backward....
Mark is a Beast. A true professional. That's the kind of guy you want in your corner. Great video.
Its like an endless nesting doll of precision machining... good lord.
Damn that’s a good video, very informative, dude knows his stuff.
Your not kidding
Guy takes trans to the master, after teardown, looks up and surmises that it just needs more cowbell. Seriously this dude knows his stuff on the allison's. Good job
You did the right thing. No need to be talking when it's time for learning. A real pleasure watching and listening to a guy who knows what he's doing. Outstanding.
Excellent video. Who knew that Christopher Walken was a transmission wiz?
Haha, I was thinking the same thing
Was also about to say the same thing.
?
Under rated comment .

One of the most useful technical videos you have done. Good for us, but bad for you that it came at your expense. There are really good, knowledgeable and experienced mechanics out there, and Ryan's is one of them.
Yep! Sign me up! I will be taking my truck down to Wisconsin and having Mark rebuild my transmission and transfer case! That guy knows his stuff! there's nothing more important to me than having confidence in your mechanic 👍 Awesome content Trackmaster!!
Just be a man and do it yourself, it's funny looking a customer in the eye when they are so inferior as a Male that they have to give me their hard earned money
Any shop that lets you document on film what their doing is a straight up honest shop with confidence and skill.
thats cool i see a bunch of parts ive made for these transmissions @ 3:01 i made thousands of these parts surrounding the input shaft on an okuma howa v2sp lathe,
the opposite side of that plate with the shaft is a front support @ 11:31 that ive made many thousands of as well.i miss making Allison transmission components as
it was 21 years of my life.linamar machining in guelph ontario, canada machines thousands of these components so when Allison says made in the usa they really
mean ASSEMBLED in the usa
Thanks for the feedback that’s cool you had a hand in this
Just had to add another comment about how professional and knowledgeable Mark is. It's very entertaining watching a master at work.
I will have a lot more videos with mark in the coming weeks
That mechanic is worth his weight in gold . Very good at what he does hard to find a mechanic that good .
Very true
Humble and professional, much respect.
Absolutely amazing watching this guy do his thing. A true artist. Love seeing guys like this go to town on the things they are the very best at. Thanks for sharing!
Great video, Mark show the real way to help costumers working clean and full of knowledge. People like him that's what we around so we spend money in our truck is going to have excellent results.
WOW buddy, this guys brain i wish i had to do this. Amazing how good he explained this, awesome video
But the best for me was,
When he spoke about the stock trans and stock torque converter shuddering once it locks up. My truck always has done that in the higher tunes. I asked many knowledgeable people/mechanics what could cause this. Never had a solid answer to what was causing it. I thought it was always the coverter itself. This was a awesome video. I may look into having these guys do this for me when the time comes. Glad it worked out for you man trucks looking good!
Josh your the man. Most people do not want you knowing this art of taking apart and rebuilding a allison. Thx best vid yet!
Thanks man
Great video. I love watching a truly skilled master plying their trade, no matter what it is (to be truthful I'm not super interested in cars/trucks, but somehow this popped up in my recommended). Carpentry, welding, mechanic... doesn't matter. Also, I found it interesting when you were watching him, you didn't say a word. I'm the same way, when I'm around someone who clearly knows what the hell they are doing... I just shut up and listen.
Me too. I do numerous trades, paint, drywall, electrical, welding and fabrication, cnc plasma cutting, work on my own vehicles and am good at a few things like this guy. It is also enjoyable to watch other masters at their trade. My uncle owns a trans shop, but rarely does the new Allison transmissions, and he works in a similar fashion but has dedicated tables to drain the fluid when tearing them down. It was cool to watch him build the TH400 for my truck.
Straight up Pro. No other words needed. I WISH people like him worked on my truck.
Wow...guy knows a ton. I think I may be willing to pay for some Wisconsin to Texas shipping.👍
same... after watching this its like the only person i would want to mess with my trans lol
Heard that man!
This guy is a icon with transmissions!! I'm a mechanic and this guy is who you want rebuilding your trans, I would make the trip from Ohio to Wisconsin to have my trans rebuilt.. Awesome video when I get my 2500 duramax I will be calling these guys..
I am not a transmission guy but good lord I could watch this guy rebuild and talk about rebuilding transmissions ALL day. So awesome to see and hear a master at work
This was a really informative video! Mark really knew what he was talking about since he could tell you everything you needed to know and with how easy he made it looked!
I love watching someone work who is 100% in to what they do. It's awesome when you find those guys.
I totally agree
Very impressive video. I know next to nothing about transmissions, but I could watch/listen to that guy assemble/disassemble Allison’s all day long. Nice!
Damn. That guy just pulls that thing apart and puts is back together like nothing!
He knows his stuff, but it looks like it fits together fairly easy, so with enough training, practice, and attention to detail is something that numerous people would be able to do. I used to work on electric clippers for the animal grooming industry and it was the same but obviously more simple. After doing enough of them people were amazed at how quick I was and unlike other repair guys, we measured the dimensions and resistance on the critical parts. It is like learning to do brakes, bearings, etc., just on a more advanced scale. Some mechanical items aren't built to be easy. I was a painter for many years and always removed and reinstalled door locks, but did run into one brand that was a nightmare to assemble. Most we could almost do blindfolded and these we finally just taped off to paint as it wasn't worth the hassle.
You almost would think he has done it before!
ive done my c-6 and an aod ,but this is so fun to watch that skill level. thanks for the video.
Wow! Id be livid after spending thay, but glad its fixed right. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks
"Gonna get 'the beard' to wash some parts real quick"
Hats off to a very professional shop and mechanic.
This man really knows his transmissions! - Just take it apart and put it back together - ok sure why not. :) Now I know what clutch packs look like, always wondered what they were talking about.
Awesome getting to see someone work on one that really knows what he’s doing, makes it look to easy, nice vid josh, happy to see you get things done properly 👍
Automatic transmissions are fascinating and this guy is a master mechanic without a doubt! Amazing experience.
When they are designed right yes...
But then there's GMs 700R4 that later evolved into the 4L60 and that was just a horrible trans for a truck. Small Transmission that was strapped to V8s with internals that would shrapnel under harsh treatment. The Turbo Hydramatic that later came to be the 4L80 is great though. Some issues that can be updated but very strong. The 3L80 is what military Humvee use.
Making me consider going with mark for my build...by far my favorite video on your channel
You can tell a true master at work when you see one! Mark should open a school at his shop and teach trans guys how to perfect their craft!
Spent 27 years doing exactly that work ! He covered it rightly.. good job
Wow you can tell Mark knows his stuff when I need a trans glad kodiak truck is in my back yard hope to see them at rumble by the river !
“This is only my second one.”
*Today*
LOL
Hands down!, this guy is bad ass!
Professionals of any trade always make difficult jobs look easy!
Great job. Your process is spotless.
Thanks for the effort.
You're a great mech.
Damn!..... What a Fantastic Video, Fella's!!!! That is one VERY SHARP Dude, Job Well done Men. Thanks for posting this Josh.
Mark is the trans MAN.
His shop is 11 hours from me but I'll make the drive happily to have Mark rebuild my trans.
Thanks Josh for breaking stuff so we can watch these vids! Sucks that trans shop screwed ya but now you've got guys you can trust!
Lol 😂 no problem I will keep breaking stuff and sharing the info 👍 but your right these guys are the best
One trans builder to another sweet 👍 building .
I wish I knew half of what Mark knew. Very informative. Great vid!!!
I say that as well 😂
Again this video is old, But that man is a master at what he does. If I ever had a DMax that needed work, I'd load it up and send it to him
you were lucky to get a builder that knows his stuff and is professional about it. No short cuts is what you want.
Just a reminder, always check the stator sleeve bushing, the same vibration that caused that pump bushing to move will move the stator sleeve to open up the pressure port and cause no moovement in forward 🤕 Thanks for listening, Edwards Brother's Transmission Roanoke rapids North Carolina!
There is a time and a place for RTV and 90% of the places I have seen it is never where it should be used. So happy to see someone that uses gaskets like they are supposed to be used and not slathering on a mess of RTV thinking its going to seal better than what the factory specified for it.
The man’s got skills! I’m in need of a rebuild but no options on local experts!
Ordering from GM. Dont wanna do the job twice.
Thank you Truck Master, this why we love you!! Great quality videos and content 👌
Thanks Joseph
I actually make the C5 backing plates for Allison transmission for my job :o
Mark definitely knows his stuff!!! Very impressive! 👍🇺🇸
I've learned through my many years of truck destruction, that the pedal under my right foot and how it's applied determines the longevity of my truck !
Best comment 🥇
That gentleman knows his business!!! Money well spent!!!
The way he was handing things off to people and giving orders with that fancy table there and gloves on and like 10 people standing around all I could think of is like him being the open heart surgery guy fr transmissions. All he needs to ask for is a scalpel and it'd be great.
That’s what I was thinking the whole time as well
He is a master craftsman at his trade and expert in his field. That was impressive! Nice video work showing the details and a quick pace. Outstanding. He needs to be on a series with his knowledge
This tutorial is so good I think I can rebuild one by myself now! Seriously, I'm looking up this dude if I ever need work done. Very impressive individual there.
My nightmare rebuild for my 05 3500 Ram was with DDT. Biggest mistake ever made with an auto rebuilding company.
Very good informative video! I have an 08 LMM with a suncoast Gmax 6 kit and a 1058 torque converter. Has about 45K on it. Pull a 5th wheel camper and a car trailer. Only problem i have had is that the small spring in the transgo shift kit broke after 3 years. Its been a really good kit!
I love the high tech assembly table. :) we used a 20 gallon steel barrel when we rebuild 400 turbo.
My uncle owns a trans shop and used another trans with the bell-housing down, tail to tail, so they can drop the internals in. He does have a dedicated trans cart that has a drain in the middle with a bucket under to catch the fluid that runs out. Across from that is a steel bench with a trough at the front and a drain to another bucket. I was checking out a an aftermarket billet th400 case he was building for a baja 1000 truck that was in 3rd place last year, but I don't follow racing and don't know what class runs th400s. It is worth putting some time and effort into work stations and assembly jigs for work that is done all of the time, no matter the trade.
Mark the Jedi Master of transmissions
Lots of good information! Great video...Definitely looking forward on that how to video
Wow mark is amazing we need guys like him here for our transmission rebuilders lol awesome video dude! Thanks again
Great video! Thank you for great info and knowledge shared
Kickass to see the insides and how they work, and how deftly a master does his craft!
It sucks the poor truck owner had a stroke though. I hope he's okay.
Up the hill 2night watchn the storm's come in.. beautiful!! Happen to run across your video. Hope you n yours r chilln.
Props to Mark for making it looks easy. That was amazing! 😊
Nice - no bashing, super professional opinions and no idiocy. This guys a wizard man - I dont even know how someone designs these things in the first place - so many weird parts everywhere sheesh I think ill go rebuild my 1 barrel carb now.
Also when picking a builder don’t bring a transmission kit to them. Ppe stuff is way outdated anyway like you learned the hardened steels cut through the drum like butter. They use a softer drum steel to save on tooling costs during manufacturing. They also went away from 8 c2 clutches to 7 c2 with stock steels because you will cause tie ups and rough 3-4 shifts.
Im retired automatic trans builder. On bringing own parts, usually the cust brought parts are VERY POOR quality!, seals and o rings don't fit properly. Missing pertinent things, And they usually over pay,Not good idea!!!.
Mark is a true master.
My husband also installed the stage 5 from ppe because they are local and supposed to be the best. But like you ours also shit the bed. They replaced everything but the main basket, and chose to reuse it. And it failed, after only light use. So we went to Buds diesel in Huntington Beach and they had Mike L. From Inglewood tranny build us a bomber that has been trouble free, and shifts like butter. PPE makes great parts, but shitty service.
I was going to say, should have gone to Mike L, but im glad Bud's pointed you in the right direction
Mike L 👍👍👍
The only 2 places to go are M/A or Mike L
I'm i process of buying a diesel truck so I have to soak up all the information I can before making that decision. Great video, very informative. Cat't wait to see the next one!
Totally eye opener 👀 Great Totally informative Allison Transmission video! More complicated than my Dirt bikes clutch packs, but similar. Lmm in Colorado 🤠
I bet this video brought them 10x more Allison build customers
I hope so they definitely deserve it
That guys got some talent
What a great video and new use for a milk crate!
A future video content idea, for those who can’t get their truck to this shop, a video on how to find a shop like it in our local area.
Thanks to you for your channel!
Seriously I could watch rebuilds on these all day long lol
Let me qualify that by when it’s done right by people that know what they are doing
Hold on what just happened? I seen a transmission come out of a truck then it was back in?! Did he even touch it?! Lol man this guy knows his stuff! Amazing!
Watching someone that really knows what the there doing is very therapeutic 🙂
Great video man! Thanks now I want mine inspected lol
Josh,
Mark tore down and rebuilt your transmission in what appears to be about two hours. A traditional shop would have taken nearly a week. He made it look so easy. Definitely knows what he's doing.
Very true 👍 this guy knows his stuff
Well Josh you have a awesome driveline under your truck, and the very best ( Ryan and Mark ) working on your truck,GREAT JOB,Great Video!!!
Thanks
There's a Man that knows his stuff! I purchased my '05 new, and about 10 years ago, I had leakage also! I found a bulletin, that said the Bell Housing was made too porous from the factory. The fix was silicone at the mating surfaces to the trans. I just heard Mike say he does not like silicone! I'd bet now it was O-ring leakage, instead? That was about @ 90K miles, and I have 170K miles, with no leakage....yet? If I ever have issues, it WILL be Mike that does this job, period! That's a 30 hour round trip for me, but he looks like he does a Super bang up job! Thank you for the Vid, I got an education, for sure!
Thanks Drill
When a guy can pull apart any complicated part like a transmission, motor, rear end, anything like that and can walk you through what he is doing and explain everything why he is doing it and can walk you through it explaining how it was act and what cause what just by looking at it yet while the whole time he is rebuilding your part. He knows the Alison better then the back of his hand. He can assemble it and he has an idea what all the tolerance are going to be and knows exactly how to fine tune it to be perfect and again all while having a conversation while
Your filming and not once has he looked up anything in the book. He knows how parts are supposed to be and how tight things need to be and he’s not questioning anything he is doing because he has done so many of them. I bet you he could do this blond folded or with one arm tied behind his back and talk someone else through with using their hand. This is the guy that it doesn’t matter what the cost is. Call him get a quote Dave your beans with some
Extra and give him the keys. When you pick it up you don’t even need to look at the bill just pay whatever it is. First off either he is great scam artist or he is a real honest mechanic and knows his stuff. Even if he is the most expensive at a rebuild it doesn’t matter your paying for his knowledge and his skills. He has spend the time and did the work to learn his information but he’s also fair with it. Sure he likes money just like everyone but at the end of the day I know his name
Means something to him and he wants to make sure he can sleep good at night. Your paying for quality. No matter what at the end of the day the money will end
Yo being the same. Either pay a cheap bill 3 or 4 or just pay it
One time and be done with it. It’s a shame most mechanics like this guy are a dieing bread and are getting harder and harder to find. Plus any
Mechanic that is willing to take the time and talk to you on the phone before
You spend any money with them that one clue he knows
His crap.
its always a pleasure to watch a master work.
I hope Mark Ryan & Crew are going to be at Rumble by the River, in Big Bend Wisconsin...
Mark is a Genius!
Very informative, the guy knows his stuff.
Another very informative Allison video!
Great video truck master... love your channel... hello from SoCal.
I'm not a diesel guy but I loved this video. Great job with everything. Thank you.
FYI to the DIY'ers: Use Snow White petroleum grease on both sides of your filter, sump/pan, valve body/module gaskets on your automatic transmission's (where ever oil is present). It makes removing things the next time around a breeze because the gasket does not bake onto the surface, equaling less time spent scraping gasket material off surfaces. Doing this will not affect your oil quality or level. For piece of mind professional's use this technique (who I was taught by).
Also thank you for this video. great content!
My 2005 Duramax / Allison 2500 trans went out. Got a new one from the Factory. My Trans Mechanic did some kind of trick shift to it. He said that I may blow this one ......but I won't walk away from it.
This is awesome Sarge! Glad to see you killing it!
Hey Rob! Thanks brother good to hear from you
