- BIG SUR Calif. 1969
A musical documentary of the 1969 Big Sur Folk Festival, filmed in a chaotic style reminiscent of Woodstock. It features performances by Joan Baez, John Sebastian, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the Combs Sisters.
Some of the finest folk singers and musicians in the world positioned themselves on the edge of some of America's most glorious scenery for a farewell to summer and a celebration of nonviolence in mid-September. It was the sixth annual Big Sur Folk Festival.
The festival, held on the tree-shaded lawns of Esalen, also differed from other recent celebrations in that here the "scene" did not eclipse the music, but merely served as a complement. According to its producers, Nancy Carlen and Paula Kates, Big Sur was designed as a "performers festival," an opportunity for artists to come together after a hectic summer on the festival circuit for some peace and solitude.
Crosby Stills Nash and Young played the final set, as on Saturday, repeatedly bringing the thinning crowd to it's feet. For a finale - with the audience pushed forward around the pool, closer to the performers now - everyone at the festival reprise "Oh Happy Day". - Hudba
Awesome thank you
hey hey! look im from cold dark new zealand and the one place on earth i would love to be at is big sur...especially in the 60's!
you would be suprised what we know about magical big sur
This dancin'in guy in the red shirt( in the beginnin'of the vid.) is expressin'himself freely.Nice!
pretty, harmonious, free :)
I know it's in California. I know it's a beautiful spot having been there in'99. It was quite magical. New Zealand is far from dark although it is cold in the winter. Today the sun is splitting the rocks and it's crispy autumn. I'm not from here, but I do live here, and you're right , on second glance he is wearing trousers. No need to be so touchy though. I was really referring to Stephen Stills in another clip where he gets angry with this trip out fella on his stage..hmmm
I was at the concert and in 1971 I was in LA and saw the guy who's shown playing the 2 or 1 string instrument at 4:19. He didn't look as healthy as he did in this video. He was standing on a street corner and I walked up to him and I said, "I think I saw you at the Concert at Big Sur back in '69. That was you, right?" He said, "Yeah, man. That was me." I didn't want to pry but I said, "So what have you been doing since then?" He smiled, some teeth missing and said, "SPEED, MAN!" I nodded and walked off, sad to see another casualty of my generation.
Im sure
I was there.
Me too. It was magic!
you say ohm people.. i say naked people ! ; )....
My last name is Ohm. Who are the "Ohm People"? Relatives I haven't met yet?
Elaine L. Ohm
At 1:59 is Ron Jeremy :)
The ohm is defined as an electrical resistance between two points of a conductor when a constant potential difference of 1 volt, applied to these points, produces in the conductor a current of 1 ampere, the conductor not being the seat of any electromotive force.

My last name is Ohm. Exactly who are the Ohm people? Relatives I haven't met????
E.L. Ohm
She drowned in the ocean? Cause that's what's at 4:10.
why didnt they invite the doors to this event???
Possibly they did. However Jim did not like playing at outdoor events. That's why they weren't at Woodstock, although a couple of the Doors went there to see it all.
