This lens' optical design remembers me on the wonderful Voigtlaender Universal-Heliar, also a triplet with 5 lenses and the ability to move the biconcave center lens to get a smooth contrast reduction

Yeah these portraits slap! I can take or leave the bokeh filters but love the depth in rendering of subject and background.

Thank you for the insight..the "bubble Bokeh" is probably the best one, and worth it alone for that and trying out this lens..but the "soft bokeh"..is probably the weak point..lol in my opinion..if you show this to "regular people/non photographers"..it just comes off as the photo was out of focus.. its just too much effect of being "soft"..this is a "specific usage lens of course ..yes its an "artsy" and creative look than "normal" stuff for sure....lol wish they would have not included the "soft bokeh"..but instead tried to figure out a way to have the "swirly bokeh" instead..like the vintage Helios 44-2...haha

I agree that the bubble is a great selling point! I suppose that having three different options allows more potential users!

@@AndrewMclean Did you find "focusing" with the "soft bokeh" switched to on..a little more difficult than the other "modes" of bokeh..Magnify Manual Assist/Peaking On helpful?..thanks

lomography has a long history of releasing interesting products that are priced at least 30% too high to make them worth exploring. without the drop-in plates, this lens might be an interesting addition to a portraiture setup, but even at the kickstarter early bird price it is a hard sell. for $335, i'd rather just pick up one or more of the many pieces of vintage glass that offer interesting character for portraiture at a fraction of the price.
edit: i'm also surprised they didn't release this as an m42 mount. it would have made things significantly more easy for them and for their customers.

I definitely agree that vintage lenses can offer similar character for sometimes much less money, however obviously they come with risk owing to their age. I think that the final RRP is a touch high, if it was going live at around the EB price or a touch higher, the build quality would justify that for me personally. Thanks for your input!

Great points..yes this is so overpriced for sure!.even though they offer these "creative bokeh" features the price point is high...Yes like a classic Helios 44-2!..lens is great for the price point!..and has its own "characteristics"..enjoying my Helios for sure!..
