I have been having fun getting older, f-mount lenses for my Nikon DSLRs. From my local camera store (Roberts Camera) I just got two Nikkor lenses for $10 each. One was a 35-70 f3.3-4.5 AI, and it is very acceptable in sharpness and function. The other was a 28-80 f4-5.8 which needs work. I have taken it apart and repaired the aperture blades, but need to get further in to fix a very stiff zoom mechanism. At $10 each I have very little risk.
you gotta get into the primes! 1970s and 80s Nikkors are amazing, and so are many Pentax, Olympus and Minolta etc.

I use a 1973 105mm f/2.5 Nikkor PC (pre-AI, converted to AI) on my Z6 FF mirrorless that has a special magic wide open - super sharp, but low contrast and beautiful bokeh...at f/4 it's crazy sharp and punchy, even compared to the latest S glass. Those 1970s Japanese designers really knew how to build a lens!

I had a lot of fun with Holga's HL-N 60mm lens till its inexplicably loose fit on the camera got my image sensor so dirty that every shot I took--with any lens--was unusable till I got a professional cleaning. I've tried to recreate the experience with a Diana+ lens and a Lomo F mount adapter that I have permanently Superglued onto it. It's not nearly as much fun as the HL-N but it has its moments. And I've recently acquired a Lensbaby Sol 45 but haven't had much chance to play with it.
I used to have a Rokinon manual fisheye lens. Situations where it was useful came up far too rarely to justify its price, but I got one or two keepers from it just the same. It died a hero's death: I had left it connected to the body of a DSLR I'd picked up mere weeks before, and like a moron I had not zipped shut my camera bag. I lifted the bag and the camera dropped out. The lens's front element was so much heavier than the camera body that as it fell it immediately oriented itself to face the ground. The front element shattered on impact, the lens (which again, I hardly ever used) was ruined, but the camera body was fine.
I love that you experiment so much! I have the Lensbaby Sol 45 and I really like it. And my heart hurts for a broken lens. At least it died a hero’s death. ;)

My Panasonic Leica 42.5 Nocticron is my "Leica" lens paired with the G9. It makes all pictures I take with it just sublime. Would you count macro in this category? I do love true macro too.

My “unusual” lens is a Nikon 135 f/2.8 pre-AI (modified) which I use on my D610 and D800. As I’m trying to get into portraiture a bit now I’ve found the character of that lens to be like none of the others I have. It’s so good (to me) and different that I have sold my 80-200 f/2.8 without regret of losing all of the possibilities of that lens for portraiture. I also replaced it on the long end with the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D which gets mixed reviews but, so far, I’m loving it too.

Just picked up the $16 Holga lens with F mount. So far, a lot of fun!
I thought so too, till its inexplicably loose fit on the camera body got my image sensor so dirty I couldn’t get it clean no matter what I tried.
@@aperson22222 Oh my! I am using mine with the FTZ adaptor to fit a Z camera. So far it seems tight.
@@scottolsen4928 I hope you have better luck than I did. It really was a fun lens, but that much sensor dust made it unusable.
I made a pinhole lens out of a body cap. I also bought a pinhole lens made by a manufacturer. Both work, But I prefer my DIY pinhole. I'm thinking of getting a Lensbaby sometime this year. I'm going to buy an M11 monochrom soon and am thinking about the 28mm summaron for a quirky M-mount wide angle.
The 28mm Summaron is my favorite 28mm lens, even though I also have the Summilux. I love it so much that I sought out the 35mm Summaron.
That Sigma 35mm f/1.2 is one of my favorite lenses. I just wish it weren't so large. It reminds me of the 50mm Summilux-SL but possibly with more toned down colors.
I use lensbaby when i need to fall in love whit the hobby or I fell down , or everything fell same and boring.
Too complex, too much adjustments, too many parts to carry and lose. I’ll keep doing what we have been doing for decades: smear petroleum gel on a filter, leaving clear where the sharp part of image will go. Wash filter and repeat ….PRESTO!!
