Insula and the Elasticity of Time

Why does time seem to stretch and squeeze in relation to emotional significance?
The way the insula assembles a 'sense of self' may hold part of the answer. It is the integration of body signals with environmental and motivational context that creates a belonging to this moment.
And the insula is a big part of this self belonging.
