Here we have the lovely "Debbie Reynolds" singing "Tammy" which reached number 1 in the charts and this song was taken from the film "Tammy and the Bachelor" which was in 1957
I was born in 1962, my name is Tammy and I was named after this song also. My Mother passed away 10 years ago, but 5 years before she passed away, she had a massive stroke and she could not speak, or lets say she could not communicate. So, when I wanted her to say my name, I would start singing this song and she would sing right along with me. The tears would just flow down my face everytime. I asked the doctor about why she could sing this song but she could not communicate even with saying hello or goodbye or anything and the doctor told me that we all have what he called a "music box" in our brains that store music, and that's why she could sing the song.
The wonderful and highly talented Debbie Reynolds. This was a massive hit for her back in 1957. This particular record was played constantly on the airwaves. Debbie was not just a great actress but she possessed a beautiful voice.
The only time I cried as an adult was when my mother passed in ‘99. This was one of her favorite songs and it reminded me of when in the fifties I was a child canoeing on the lake with her where we had a summer cottage. God bless you Mom.
My Mom used to sing this around the house all the time. My mom had such a beautiful voice and would have gone far but she chose to get married and be a stay at home mother like most did in the 60s. This brought back beautiful memories. She passed 10 years ago today. I would give anything to hear my Mom sing this again.
The song here is so beautiful I named my first born daughter after this song RIP.... Debbie Reynolds thank you so much for this beautiful so my heart broke for your own daughter and you are so may you both rest in peace today is my daughter Tammy birthday 2022 happy birthday my darling
My grandma used to sing this to me to get off to sleep when I was a infant. Could be why I loved Debbie Reynolds so much too. R.I.P. Debbie & Carrie ❤️
I was 10 years old when this was recorded and going through a very unhappy period of my childhood. The pain would ease when I would rest my head on the pillow and drift off to sleep with this beautiful song playing in my head. The most heavenly music ever written.
Debbie Reynolds was my mom's 3rd cousin and of course my 4th through my great grandmother Mary Jane Reynolds Hess of Grayson county, Tx. My mom and I loved all her songs and wonderful movies. Tammy was a favorite of both of us . Todd, Your mom was a beautiful and talented lady as well as your sister. The world was so blessed to have their beauty and talents here. God bless you and the rest of your family, Sharon Y. Lupher Hancock
What I have always loved about this performance is the way she has realised that this is a sentimental song, and doesn't need any enhancements. There are no breathless pauses, no holding onto notes, no melisma. In the hands of a lesser artist this song could be mawkish. All the artistry is in the clear pure sound, the diction and the phrases. Less is so much more.
Today googled this song which first came out when I was eight. For 65 years I have been singing Terry's in love. I could only laugh when I discovered today it's called Tammy. It's a beautiful song which makes me feel good. I think I'll stick with Terry.
I saw this movie as a kid and remember her sitting in the window singing I never forgot the song I am 68 today and deddie was a sweet heart they don't make movies like that anymore
We had a cottonwood in our yard when I was growing up and my dad used to sing this to me often. Now I sing it to my son every night. Sometimes he sings along and nothing in the world has ever felt better than hearing his little voice singing with me.
I listen to hard core trance rock and other heavy music but this song takes me back to the 50s I was 8 years old and I first heard it in the pub when my old man used to take us kids and my mum to the pub on Sunday it never fails to bring a tear and a lump in my throat Debbie reynalds also looked like my mum back then funny enough the landlords wife was called tammy such good memories of a time when things were so much better than todays headless society
I remember my father singing the song Tammy while fixing our perimeter fence sometime in 1959,thereby hearing it in the radio till the early 60's.it was 1959 when my father died, now i'm 66 i love the song,i can picture my father as i listen to the song.Music, fumes(good odor)reminds the past.
My mom told me that this was her favourite song when it came out and promised herself if she ever had a little girl she was going to name her Tammy. Unfortunately my parents found out that they couldn't have children. After twelve years of being childless they decided to adopt. Three months later they received a call from the adoption agency telling them they had a little girl for them. My mom finally had her little girl named Tammy. When I got married this was the first song we danced together as man and wife
This songs takes me back to my childhood. Truly a happy time with a big, close family. So many are now gone. Growing up in the 50s and 60s was the BEST!. There was an innocence to the world then that has long since disappeared.
This one is a very soft sounding song John, and it's also got that sleepy feel about it, i just wish i had made a far better video for it than i did here, but this was one of my early made videos when i was just starting out here on YT, but despite the pictures i used it's a great song, cheers mate...
I love how at 0:52 there's a subtle hesitation before she sings "think" and the little stutter before "could". Sounds so organic, like she was singing right in front of you. Can't find something like that in modern music anymore
I am nearly 80 years old now and I have been in love with Debbie Reynolds since I first saw her in that film......... A lovely song and a really beautiful woman.....
Another Top selling hit single of 1957 as it was Done By Debbie Reynolds and it gave her a Gold Disc Award for US Sales in 1957 just a timeless Classic hit single from 1957

Ví la película siendo un niño, y siempre recordé la canción. Y aquella imagen de Tammy viendose reflejada en un estanque, ya que nunca se había visto en un espejo. Hermoso volver a escuchar a Debbie Reynolds cantándola.
Debbie gave a 'free' concert here in 1998, at a 'Senior's Health Fair'. She met with fans, afterwards, and I had her autograph my personal copy of 'Tammy'. Quite a keepsake !
My mother has told me if she had a daughter she would name Tammy. It took 5 yrs after '57 before I was born but she kept her promise. Love the the music, so beautifully written & sung by Debbie Reynolds
Sorry to hear your sad news Keith, sadly we all have to lose loved ones from time to time but hopefully they go to a better place, and just maybe we all get to meet up again in the future, you take care mate and try and have a relaxing weekend... Carl

How did we ever get from those incredible days to where we are today?
linear time.
I often wonder the same thing. Yes, we have gained a lot over the years, but we have lost so much along the way.
Because the devil is mighty, but God is Almighty the devil is playing around right now, but we win in the end so hang in there girl in Jesus name amen
@@kathyharris1049 Amen! I completely agree! Bless you!😊
That song just reminds me of my Mother .She would sing that song to me at bed time. She passed away in 2017....I love you, Mom xxxoooxxx ....
Is it just me or does this song bring you back to simpler times, beautiful
I feel exactly the same!
Me too. I saw the movie on T.V. at my grandparents house when I was a child.
The wonderful and highly talented Debbie Reynolds. This was a massive hit for her back in 1957. This particular record was played constantly on the airwaves. Debbie was not just a great actress but she possessed a beautiful voice.
A timeless classic. Brings back memories of a more nostalgic time when we were young and innocent. We need more of that now.
I was named after this song… I’m now 21 my nana who died in 2007 loved this song and so did my mum it’s a beautiful song!
There will never be stars of this caliber again.
The only time I cried as an adult was when my mother passed in ‘99. This was one of her favorite songs and it reminded me of when in the fifties I was a child canoeing on the lake with her where we had a summer cottage. God bless you Mom.

The very first song I ever loved. I was only 3 years old when I first heard it, and remember telling my mom how much I liked this song.
I wish I could go back to the time of Debbie Reynolds and better times.

My favorite movie with her was "How The West Was Won." So many great actresses and actors, but she was the best.
When my mum was in hospital in 1961 having me, the lady in the bed next to hers heard this song and named her baby daughter after it.
I love you mum.
the orchestra in this song is amazing , so much feeling , beautiful

The violins at 2:45 are heart wrenching !
You are so right! It’s beautiful orchestration.
It goes back to the line, “I’d sing like a violin if I were in his arms...”

Not unfortunate for you though. I told my wife your story here. She liked it.
It was a film " Tammy and the Bachelor", with Denbie Reynolds.

My mother passed away in February. I, too, was named after this song. First time I have actually heard it.

thank you lovely comments that touch my lonesome heart. I CAN'T help to stop my tears rolled down my cheeks.
This is the first song I remember hearing. I had a doll called Tammy. I turned 2 in 1957.
This songs takes me back to my childhood. Truly a happy time with a big, close family. So many are now gone. Growing up in the 50s and 60s was the BEST!. There was an innocence to the world then that has long since disappeared.
I am still innocent. I may live forever in a repeating universe. This song will never die.
Yes, the spell of inocence of those yesteryears is gone.
Quite right about those years, Teresa. Films were refreshingly
inocent.
this takes me to a better place, what a lovely film and this song is just divine
I was 9 yrs old in 1957 and remember her beautiful voice singing this.
My childhood friend, named Tammy, had this played at her wedding. It was so cute

A very beautiful and lovely song that I just discovered.
Such a lovely lady with a voice like an angel. Sorry you died from a broken heart. So tragic. RIP

Beautiful. So lovely to listen again. Great production. I was about 10 yrs when I saw this film in Richmond, Surrey. England.
