When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad worked on an offshore rig in Louisiana. He watched old movies when his shift was over. He got this song stuck in his head. When he got to come home, he told my mom "I know what we're going to name her." He used to sing to me all the time. We lost him this year. What I would give to hear him sing it to me once more😢
This takes me back to a time that is forever lost to us. Back when we thought the future was so bright and that the USA was always right. Those bubbles sure have burst spectacularly.
I was fortunate enough to see Ms. Reynolds’s perform Tammy when my dad was stationed in Japan. I was only a small child but will never forget her lovely voice and her beautiful red hair. I also had red hair and had never seen another person with the same color.
This has to be one of the most sweet and innocent movies ever made. It makes one feel good all over. The song is beautiful and touches one deep inside. Debbie Reynolds was perfectly cast as Tammy, as was everyone else in the movie. They don't make films like this anymore which makes it an innocent and guilty pleasure.
@@colincooper-gw7zf Mum belted this song on the the Kriesler turntable , about the same age you and , i know appreciate more so know that mum is gone .
I watched Tammy as a young girl with my mother, and again 24 years later with my daughter. I loved Tammy, as a very innocent “coming of age” character. I sang this song in a talent contest as a teen, & again as a lullaby to my grandchildren. It’s one of my all time favorite old musicals, from an era of marvelous musical films with the likes of Doris Day, Judy Garland, Shirley Jones & others. They just don’t make them like this anymore. Tammy stands the test of time.
When I was a little girl I wanted my name changed to Tammy I loved this song so much. It makes me sad listening to it. Simple beauty seems to have varnished from the world.
Me too! First time I ever I ever went to a movie theater. It was a double feature with "Land of the Unknown". I enjoyed the monster movie but secertly fell in love with Debbie Reynolds and this song ..lol!
Just rescued a baby cockatiel the other day. She was so scared and quiet until we started singing this song. (It's a favorite of ours) She immediately perked up and started talking. Won a waltz trophy dancing to this song in 1976 still remember the steps even though I can no longer walk I will never forget the feelings I got from this song
This song by Debbie was my sister, Debbie. My sister changed her name about 1955 to Debbie as she loved Debbie Reynolds and was extremely upset she married. My sister died 1993 but I listen to this song often and it is my sister, Debbie!
Yes, it sure was a gentler time. Threat of nuclear war, having to send in federal troops to integrate public schools. CIA overthrowing governments. Sure was a gentle time.
I had the privilege of seeing and hearing Debbie sing this live during her final UK tour and she sang it as beautifully as she had in 1957. It brought a bit of a lump to my throat seeing this legend towards the end of her remarkable career, still giving 100% and making every single member of the audience feel happy, entertained and ultimately very moved. She was a great talent and a genuine Hollywood legend. And I got to shake her hand!!!
My dear late Mum loved this song too, and, myself, having been born in 1956, used to hear it on the radio back then. You are so privileged to have seen Debbie perform in her final tour. She certainly was one of the legends of "old Hollywood " and was always so giving of her time to her fans. Always remembered fondly.
For Me I can recall this 45 being played on My Oldest Sister's Small Record ⏺️⏺️ Player in Our Family room. I was Most likely Four or Five She was Eight or Nine at that Time. Needless too Say it was a Bueatiful, and Great Song that I immediately fell in Love with from then On. Thank You for Sharing this Great Tune Again.
I'm proud to say that I was named after Debbie Reynolds after my parents saw this movie in their courtin days in 1963 before they later married in 1964 and then later welcomed me into the world in November 1972.
ever since I first heard this song from watching the movie I fell in love with the song! I wrote the lyrics down and sing it! I'm 66 now and this endearing song will never be forgotten!
I can't remember how old I was when I first heard this song. I was able to go to the movies with my older siblings to see it and that is when I heard it. I was to young to know what was going on in the movie but I remembered this song. I am almost 62 and it is still as beautiful to me today as it was when I first heard it as a young child.
I own all the Tammy movies. While a lot of people think there hoeky gotta tell ya lots of good life values and kindness. Maybe we need more of this today
Born in 1954, one of my earliest memories is of this song playing on the car radio as we returned at night from visiting relatives. Wrapped in a blanket and snuggled up to my mum, the song lulled me off to sleep. Can't help but become tearful when I hear it.
6 years old, sitting on a tall spinner stool at the Rexall in Wytheville, Va, having one of Lucille's famous lemonades while she and my mama "caught up the news". I'd stare at the faraway tin ceiling and imagine just who that Tammy was...I was sure Tammy was the singer.
I was born in 1958 and this song when I was 3 was listened to in our home and on radio. I will always love Debbie Reynolds and this beautiful song. ❤ I sing this to our Grandaughters ever since they were born. The oldest one is 22 now. ❤❤❤❤❤ still have 3 small ones to sing to out of 13 Grandkids. I remember my Mom singing this to me as well. I tear up cause she passed away in 2013. I miss and love her. ❤❤❤❤😢
This very short composition is to me among the most lyrically tender and sentimental songs I remember ever hearing. The violins, the orchestration, how the words come together with the sound-all create and evoke a heart-breakingly sweet and touching little musical masterpiece, a poignant tribute to worldly romance and human love.
I grew up with this music. My father loved music and it has been amazing to be able to find this song. I played it for my grandchildren and it has been one that they sing daily. It is such a tremendous message to all generations. Debbie Reynolds has such a wonderful voice to portray such tenderness
My parents gave me that name, but I hated because my older brothers caught me at 5 as my little boyfriend and I were to give a little smooch my brothers jumped out around him and I and then later on they teased me singing this around me,but older as I am now miss my brothers who passed on except one, and my parents have just passed two years ago,and Beautiful sweet Debbie Reynolds is gone too.and I lost my cat to a bad vet, and she was beautiful. So tender is this song that this is the first time I’ve cried with it! Songs do hold weight, especially this beautiful one ,Thanks Debbie ❤❣️👍
My parents went on a date early in their relationship and my father told my mom "when we get married we will have a daughter and call her Tammy" They were married for 62 years.
There are songs and performances that are so good, that it doesn't matter what kind of music you normally listen to, you just have to love them unless your truly a dolt. In between all the classic rock, folk, metal, singer-songwriter and everything else I listen to, I still say, this is a spectacularly beautiful piece of songwriting and singing right here. Not only does she have a beautiful voice, but she is so expressive with her phrasing. The way she pauses, or almost cries, or almost shouts at the right moments, it's like she's telling you the story of her heart while she's singing.
A long time before school shootings, fentanyl, gender switching, social media predators, and such. Debbie Reynolds was an icon of what was good in America. We had issues to resolve, but that’s why America was great; we were able to fix them .
A true stunning Melody From the Hollywood’s most beautiful period in movies and music You don’t see this quality in talent nowadays Rip Debbie Reynolds she was a true Hollywood star 😊
I wasn’t alive when this movie came out but my dad told me folks would go see the movie just for this song. Very beautifully written and sung by the amazing Mrs. Reynolds. For the younger crowds that is the voice of Charlotte, mother of Princess Leia from Star Wars who is in love with a character played by Leslie Nielson from Naked Gun, Airplane, Police squad etc.
This was my very FIRST song I fell in love with! I was 4 when this movie was released! I stumbled upon this channel by chance, and I had completely forgotten about this song, and how it MOVED me as a young boy!
