  • In a series of interviews spanning more than a quarter century from 1987 to 2013, Debbie Reynolds shares her take on Elizabeth Taylor, and their close friendship that was shattered when Elizabeth began a relationship with Debbie's then-husband Eddie Fisher, causing one of the biggest tabloid scandals of the 1950s.

@Shirley King I think both Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor were too good for Eddie Fisher. I am a widow and can tell you that having just lost Mike Todd, Taylor was totally vulnerable.(She also had an infant daughter by Todd). Fisher had a "thing" for her before Mike Todd died, but she had been truly happy w/Todd. Being with Fisher was a way to keep Todd with her, but only until she "woke up". If anything, she did Debbie Reynolds a favor which I believe Reynolds realized, which then helped them mend their friendship. They were both very special women.

I really don't think that if the tables had been turned ( probably not because I couldn't see Debbie hurting anyone) that Elizabeth would have been as congenial.
Having said that, even though Elizabeth was a highly sought after actress , it was Debbie that had true range as an actress. Bless her always.

I love them both but I see where you're coming from. As beautiful and big within herself she could be, Elizabeth could also be quite fearsome if she wanted. I can see her throwing a lot of shade debbie's way if it was the other way around. I could also see elizabeth growing to respect Debbie ultimately though, and forgiving her, just not without throwing some snark first 🤣 Debbie was definately talented. Her first turn in 'singing in the rain' showed that, but I also love Elizabeth's presence and the contribution she made to AIDS. They were both incredible and we're lucky they graced the silver screen in the time they did, and I'm glad they were able to make peace.

'Singing in the Rain' was one of my favorite movies when I was younger and I can't believe she was only around 18 and singing, dancing and acting at that level in the film, plus she was so pretty and aged so gracefully. I've really grown to love and appreciate Elizabeth Taylor as well though. So beautiful, so brave, loyal, fiery and compassionate, with such a film presence. Am I the only one that feels a bit for Eddie Fisher though? I get he made a mistake and caused a lot of pain but he wasn't the only one and he was really disrespected in the end, and his career took a nose dive.
