    This is the OST to Gimmick! for the Famicom! But in my own form of Stereo! Which spreads the sound channels and adds a bit of echo/reverb. These mixes also do not represent true, original, or actual stereo that the NES has, this is just to make the music sound more clear and crisp, and is another way of listening to the greatness of 8Bit music. So enjoy this soundtrack in what I like to call, WiiGuy's 8Bit Stereo!! :D

    As someone who has nothing but nostalgia for Kirby I can happily say Gimmick is easily a better game than the NES Kirby. The very fact that there is a learning curve and the incredible pacing of that curve is proof enough. Gimmick stands far above almost all other NES platformers in pretty much every category, with things like the seventh stage adding to the replayability without a weak hook like collection to seal the deal.
    Of course to each their own.

  • @Visist83
    @Visist83 Před 11 lety +16

    This game is amazing in so many ways. Oddly, the reception in Scandinavian gaming magazines wasn't very enthusiastic. The price for a complete "SCN" version of Mr. Gimmick today is about 1000$ in Scandinavia. I was lucky to find a copy for my collection about 8 years ago. Price - approx 80$.
    An already amazing soundtrack is even more mind-blowing in stereo. Great post!

    Sunsoft are known for their iconic Drum and bass sounds, but the sound chip used in this game (esp. in track 2) really push the limits on the NES. So much so it sounds almost 16 bit! An amazing piece of work!

  • @recorderdude

    I like to see classic SunSoft as the TREASURE of the 8-bit era; pushing technical limitation barriers, then breaking them open with a sledgehammer, and making them their bitch, all with insane amounts of creativity and style. Revenge of the Joker, Mr. Gimmick, U-Four-ia (I know, it's really hebereke but I like bop louie) and Journey to Silius are easily some of my favorite games on the NES, and U-four-ia is one of my favorite games overall.

      ***** Sunsoft games in general were the most advanced games on the platform. They had a proper composer for their music and used a special soundchip in their cartridges. The same thing was done with Kirby's Dreamland 3, I believe. Considering this game came out in 1993, at the end of the NES's lifespan, they were making use of the full capabilities of the system.

    • @xxFortunadoxx
      @xxFortunadoxx Před 9 lety +2

      Eric Slattery It's obvious that I meant the NES as the 8 bit console that Nintendo made. It doesn't matter how long they kept it in production. By 1993, the console had run its course. Technically the 2600 was discontinued in the early 90's, but no one really cares because it was irrelevant by the late 80's.

    I remember playing this game as a child (in Sweden) and loving it.
    My parent occasionally gave me a "gaming ban" but at times allowed me to start a game without actually playing it, and I used to do it with this game just to listen to the music.
    13-15 years later I discovered the rarity of this game, many years after I sold it on a flea market for a mere dollar or so (just about when N64 was released).

I beat this game when I was 11 and my best friend who borrowed that and Eliminator Boat Duel did beat them before me. But when I go back to the game today I can beat it very easily and it doesn't stop me to play it over and over again. That's my friends is called replayable value for your buck. This NES game was never released in North America. It was only released in Japan and in all European countries (Such as the United Kingdom).

    seems that stole a sound chip of the Mega Drive/Genesis to achieve this lower line, but it is a special chip that does this. especially good soundtrack...

    Y'know Sunsoft never used a sound chip for this game, it was due to a DPCM sample (that base sound ya hear repeating) and the extra Famicom sound channel that this game sounds the way it is...just saying, no offense to people who thought otherwise

    • @bsdims
      @bsdims Před 8 lety +1

      :/

    • @InternetTAB
      @InternetTAB Před 6 lety +5

      The Famicom version uses a variation of Sunsoft's FME-7 memory management controller known as "SUNSOFT 5B", which, in addition to the functionality provided by the stock FME-7, features a Yamaha YM2149 PSG audio chip to provide three additional channels for music and sound. Since the NES only uses five sound channels, the extra sound channels were excluded from the European release.
      que?

    • @Nikos8BitStereo
      @Nikos8BitStereo  Před 10 lety +2

      It was only released in Japan and in Scandinavia in EU which explains the PAL box art, and it is quite uncommon, and an underrated gem of major proportions.
