Pingyao: China's Financial Center in 19th Century | Story of Shanxi Merchants 3

In this video, I was in Pingyao, an ancient town that was on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the 19th century, Shanxi Merchants established the first piaohao, which is like a draft bank here. In its peak time, there were about 20 piaohao in Pingyao with branches all around the country. Pingyao became the financial center of China in the 19th century. In the video, I explained how a piaohao worked and their very advanced shareholding system.
