- Have you ever heard about Taiyuan city? Once a capital of China's fabled Tang dynasty and long known as the “Dragon City", it was named one of the world's top ten most polluted cities in 2013. It's been China’s industrial capital and home of coal bosses, but now the ancient city roars back to life! We went there and explored the city's rapid transformation.

老外,你好,什么时候还来山西,山西还有很多等待你拍摄的有趣的特色文化。
I had lived in Taiyuan for a couple of years before corona hit. This video gave me such a nostalgic vibe.. Oh man :(
How was it? Not many foreigners there yet
@@LaowaiMe just gotta know where to look for them :) there’s a place called Old Bar, it’s at the intersection of Qinxian jie and Pingyang lu. Most of the foreigners go there every night and it gets pretty crowded, especially on Sunday-Tuesday nights (days off for most of the foreigners there). The city itself is a great place to live, but gets a bit stale over time. Not a lot of things to do, so you kinda have to travel around the country, if you want to do something really exciting. I still love it very much, the best years of my life.
As a Chinese person, I haven't been to many cities in China. I'm learning my country from foreign friends like you. I felt that I should have appreciated my country a little bit more after watching this kind of videos. Thank you for showing a different side of China.
Beautiful and peaceful China 🇨🇳👍👍👍
I am Taiyuan girl and am living in Germany for couple years. Taiyuan is still my love, my home. Thank you for the great video and showing the real china.❤️👍

I love love love Taiyuan 😍😍😍
Went there in 2017 it’s amazing
I had visited Taiyuan city and saw the modern, clean, efficient, and sophisticated underground coal mining about 30-40 km from the beautiful Taiyuan city. I like Taiyuan foods. I also went to Beijing by their HSR. It's so convenience. 👍👍🤣
The next video would be about Shanxi nooooodles! And vinegar haha
China never ceases to amaze Thankyou

Thanks for showing us another great example of rapid city transformation in China!
You are welcome! ;)

thank you for sharing in global media, the north city taiyuan china...
I would like to visit Taiyuan and other places in China, green is the way for the benefit of future generations. Thumbs up.
I’ve never been to Taiyuan, but my father went to college there around 1958. Thanks for the video.
Wow! I will definitely go to Taiyuan ancient county just to fly back in time, want to feel myself in China 2000 yrs ago.
Yeah, they are gonna film movies there for sure
That’s Ming - Qing dynasty architectural style, so more like 300-400 years hahaha
The Communist Party declared Chinese culture bad, evil and wrong and smashed, looted and destroyed almost all of it.
@@topsuperseven7910 The U.S government also once declared slavery legal, and manifesting destiny by killing all the natives as ethical. Though they still maintain many of the original principles, the CCP of the 50s is not the same as the current CCP.
@@niubi3923 Hi, no, 'The US government' did none of those things.
Let's just be clear, you decided there is a continuous ruling party called 'The US government' just as there is a continuous ruling party called 'The CCP'.
Wow... just wowwwww with you.
Here is some advice to you: Never talk about anything like this again. Not politics, not history, not international events, never engage with these concepts and never talk about them like you have any good reason to be 'adding your thoughts' or engaging in any others.
wow. really wow.
You lover of evil things too. You are why the CCP will carry on abusing Chinese. You.
I’ve lived in China for 10 years before I left in 2017, I’ve seen China transforming. Very backward initially but grew modern every year. My love for China also grew
Cool! As a history student, I'm definitely attracted to the ancient city of Tai Yuan. Thanks for the video!
👍We have BYD taxis in Singapore too. 😁
At 4 million people this unknown Chinese city is already equal in size to Australia's largest city.
Taiyuan had a few thousand year head start
Unknown to the West maybe, it’s well known in China.
@@raylam3257 Not Shenzhen though.
5.3million people, the latest data. Taiyuan was built 2518 years ago.
moreover, it has a college called China Australia Business College of Shanxi, with around 5,000 students at least))
Great insight into an otherwise unknown city. That restoration of the ancient city is amazing. Thank you for an excellent presentation.
Nice quality content! Keep promoting Chinese culture. Learned alot of interesting stuff from this video. 😍
Not only Taiyuan City, but Shanxi Province is a treasure of Chinese culture. Welcome to visit Shanxi in spring time
Lovely place indeed. CZcams is anytime better than mainstream TV 😄. The entertainment is so in-depth, educational and genuine. Keep up the good work.🙏🏿
It is undeniable that the stunning rise of China has sparked a lot of envy.
US will say China steal the concept/copy rights. Oops whatever China did or invented, it is all stolen properties...out of envy, jealousy or just sheer stupidity.
envy by ignorant people
But also from China lol
It's undeniable you believe the rest of the world must be the same as Chinese people, they must think like Chinese people, they must have the same 'Shame Culture', the rest of the world surely see's everything through Chinese thought.
That is how ignorant you are.
No, in China your fundamental purpose of life, the most important and really the only thing that matters is your 'face culture' or materialistic 'shame culture' where everyone lives in perpetual 'jealousy' or shame at how someone else is relatively getting more stuff.
Here is some news: In fact, much of the world does NOT actually think in such a low, cheap and inferior way. I know this surprises you! You can't really understand it! but its true! most people are not cheap materialistic low-thinking xiao-ren and most don't have a 'shame culture' like you.
It's really confusing isn't it? Well, now you've finally learned something new about the real and big world outside your bubble!
@@topsuperseven7910 Are you saying that only Chinese people are materialistic? All human beings are alike, regardless of race.
this work is amazing, like a short documentary about Taiyuan. 🥰🥰🥰without your footage, even as a Chinese, I had no idea that Taiyuan, a traditional industrial city, had been transformed so successfully.

OMG it’s the first time I’m seeing a foreigner making a video for my home city!! I’m so glad and so excited to watch it! Thank you so much for doing this and I’d like to see you shoot more videos of other places in Shanxi👍🏻

3:09 In some southern cities, such as Hangzhou, there are some retired elderly people who find it too hot to go out in summer, but at home, they feel it expensive to turn on the air conditioning(China's elderly are used to a hard life when they were young), so they go to metro stations to enjoy the free cool air 🤣
Hahhahaha
I feel you! When I was a child, the electricity ran off quite often (shortage of electricity), and it was too hot inside the house that people had to get out... One common place that people used to go to enjoy cool air is the big commercial/ shopping center...
i am from Taiyuan. Great video and these changes are really happening in Taiyuan. There indeed are still many problems in Taiyuan now, but it is getting better and better. Hopefully, in the near future, Taiyuan could be a new tire 1 city and attract more people to come.
I have lived and studied in taiyuan from 2010 to 2017, which is a place full of memory for me.
How was it that time?
@@LaowaiMe It was really a heavily polluted city before 2014, particularly, 2011. I feel it becomes a clean city since 2015. And I miss the mountains around the city where i used to ride my bicyles.
Great video, thanks. Glad you are liking living and working in Zhongguo.
I have been to Taiyuan!! Your video brings back great memories (I ADORE Jinci)! Thanks a lot!
Just amazing and very innovative way to persevere to thousand year old Chinese civilization culture. Green- eco friendly is the best in big cities in future.
I like the metro entrance on the ground it looks very tradition chinese
China's rapid development has been beyond imagination over the past a couple fo decades, everywhere, including the third and fourth tier cities. More and more young folks start to consider building careers near their hometowns when more opportunities become available locally. That's the trend.
Yes; that’s what we realized. Young people are coming back!
Very interesting. I have watched a number of China travel vlog by westerners and I have never come across any on that part of China.
Excellent travelogue
I love this video. I have a friend in Taiyuan and I'd never heard of it before and couldn't really find much about it. Your general tour makes it look like a mini tier 1. Thanks!
Good video bro, your narative and the shooting are so profesional, great work, looking forward to other video.
the Yingze park is a very beautiful place, espeacially in the night !! and the Taiyuan botanical garden is also worth to come
I'm so happy that you've featured Jinci in your vid! It's a hidden gem and a time capsule. The faded paint on the old wooden structures and sculptures is so atmospheric and evocative. The fact that it has survived numerous earthquakes, wars, and the cultural revolution is a miracle. More people need to visit and treasure this place.
Yes I envy the development made by China.
Thank you showing us around. Love it.
My birth place, it has changed so much in the past 20 years though
And where are you now? What about your relatives, are they in Taiyuan?
@@LaowaiMe Have been abroad since very young, most of my relatives are in Pingyao (a city in Shanxi), but my parents now reside in Shanghai. From your videos, Taiyuan and Datong seem to have developed even more since my last visit, but overall the economy in Shanxi is very mehhh now that the coal industry has completely declined.
@@sqian2004 Pingyao is a super cool place, but we didn't have time to go there ;( As for their economy,.. they are looking for new models and sources. Actually, Datong is doing it quite well. Many old people from Beijing go there to live.

Awesome video. Love it. Keep the videos coming! Can't wait to get back into China!
Wow, thank you so much for making this video! I visited Taiyuan briefly as a stopover in 2012 after visiting Pingyao. I thought it was a real dump. I even met a person from Taiyuan in Xian and thought he was a "country bumpkin". My how things have changed in just 8 years! It's a real reversal- people were embarassed to be from interior cities, but now they will likely have a higher quality of life! It's showing the real heart of China that's interesting- not just the famous areas that everyone else goes to!
