Unboxing The Flex PXE 80

  • When the PXE 80 first came out I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but after using it a few times I'm really impressed with this little guy. The appeal of this over the Rupes is the quick disconnect for the fittings and in terms of power I feel like it tends to move a bit better. Does it replace the Nano? I don't think so, they complement each other in a way.

Bought this on release and love it. For me the perfect setup is the duetto with 5”, flex cordless for 3” and ibrid for 1/2”. I don’t find the need to use the bigger long throw 6” machines, haven’t owned a modern car with enough flat surface area to require it. Plus I picked up your trick in putting the 6” bp on the duetto for finishing if needed

Hey Matt , Nice job on the review, I think having the Flex XFE15 the PXE80 and the Rupes Nano is the ultimate package for getting the job done , the Flex 1” works great but for those real tight locations a nano is needed , this is my exact arsenal, I got rid of all the cords and never looked back pure freedom 👍

Great Video mate! Do you know why the American machines 12V are different voltage to the European machines 10.8V i do find this a little strange myself but I was surprised to find out that the PXE80 was made in China but like you said it's still a great quality machine. Perhaps to keep costs down and make the tool accessible for more people unlike the Nano which is very expensive.

I am not at the point where I could justify the expense of the Rupes. I decided to give the Adam's micro polisher a shot and I'm sure you can guess how that went. They should call it the stall master. It will stall on any speed, with any type of pad and with any amount of pressure with the 3mm attachment. I returned it. I think this is what I'm going to replace it with, they look to be about the same size. Thanks for the review and saying it doesn't stall.

I love my PXE80, I sold my iBrid Longneck, after polishing a few cars. There are a lot of producers, providing the missing 2 inch option and the Extension, along with two 12mm DA adapters, that the user doesn't have to do the screw on, screw off thing with the diffrent backingplate sizes all the time switching to the diffrent sizes. Hope you include that too in your package Matt 😉 would have saved me a lot of time figuring that out!

The plate changing base is also magnetic most folks don’t know that. I have the little polisher and I enjoy it a lot but it will stall like most polishers but for what it is the three 3” it’s good. Do ppl who already have a 3” solution buy this ? Probably not. The connivence of it being cordless is cool but if you have a 3” this isn’t necessary. Also the lower throw stalls a lot the 3mm will stall. So it’s better with the 12mm with the 3” backing plate. And in comparison the Adams which is just like the Rupes does the 1” , 2” better ( I know this doesn’t have a 2” but you can buy the backing plate and cut it down. ) so Rupes for 1”, 2” and the Flex for 3”. And you’re straight.

Great review of the PXE 80, best on the web! However I disagree with the packaging. I think it depends on what kit you get. Mine had the same stuff as your kit but it came in a sweet stackable L-BOXX storage case system (like the Milwaukee packout system): www.flex-tools.com/en/products/pxe-80-108-ec25-set-2/ but I guess this is for the European market only then? However, it was excellently packed and I keep it in the case it came in, But the bag is sweet as well I have to say.
On the 2" and 1" part, where do you polish with the nano where the PXE 80 doesn't fit??? sure its bigger but you can polish everywhere the Nano can, the difference is, the PXE 80 actually cuts and polishes and the Nano stalls and has no cut. Regarding the extensions, I'm these are what you're looking for: www.flex-tools.com/en/products/exs-m14-set-2-1/ they're from flex and even fit on some rupes models :D
    But again, great video.
