R&B Legends. Many lasting hits. Silky voices. Their slow stuff (e.g. Stairway to Heaven) is classic baby-making music, you can see their heavy influence on Luther when he emerges in the early 80s

Another of my moms favorite songs by the O’Jays. I hope you will do their hit “Brandy” if you haven’t already.

A very high flying fun reaction 🪂! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to The O'Jays before: Forever Mine, Stairway To Heaven, Love Train, For The Love Of Money, Use Ta Be My Girl, Cry Together and Backstabbers. I Love Music was released as the lead single from The O'Jays' 1975 album: Family Reunion. It was written and produced by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. The song reached #1 on the R&B chart, #1 on the Dance Club chart and #5 on the Hot 100.didn't chart. This live performance is from October 11, 1975, on the television show: Soul Train.
    Lyrics 📝:
I love music, any kind of music
I love music, just as long as it's groovin'
Makes me laugh, makes me smile
    All the while
    Whenever I'm with you girl
    While we dance, make romance
I'm enchanted by the things that you do
    I love music
    sweet, sweet music
    Long as it's swinging
All the joy that it's bringin'
I'm so happy to be in complete harmony,
    I love you, girl
And to hold you so close in my arms
I'm so glad you're mine all mine mine
Nothing can be better than a sweet love song
    So sweet
    So sweet
    So mellow, mellow
When you got the girl that you love in your arm
Oh honey, I love you, I love you, yeah
Music is the healing force of the world
It's understood by every man, woman, boy and girl
    And that's why, that's why I say
    I love music
    Any kind of music
    I love music
Just as long as it's groovin', groovin'
Music makes the atmosphere so fine
    Lights down low
Just me and you baby, you know
'Specially when you got a cold glass of wine
    Mellow, mellow wine and song
    I love music
    Any, any kind of music
    I love music
Just as long as it's groovin'
    I love, I love, I love, I love, I love music
    Sweet, sweet music
    I love, I love, I love, I love, I love music
    The O'Jays Info 📰:
The O'Jays are from Canton, Ohio and formed in 1958 while the group members; Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, William Powell, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles, were attending Canton McKinley High School. Originally known as "The Mascots" and then as "The Triumphs", the high school friends began their musical recording career with the song: "Miracles", in 1961 which was a moderate hit in the Cleveland area. In 1963, they took on the name: The O'Jays, in tribute to Cleveland radio disc jockey Eddie O'Jay who was part of the powerful management team of Frankie Crocker, Herb Hamlett and Eddie O'Jay. The O'Jays have released ten Gold Albums, with nine eventually going Platinum and ten #1 R&B chart hits.
The O'Jays made their first chart appearance with the minor hit song: "Lonely Drifter", in 1963, but reached their greatest level of success once Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, a team of producers and songwriters, signed them to their Philadelphia International label in 1972. With Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, The O'Jays, now a trio after the departures of both Bill Isles and Bobby Massey, emerged at the forefront of Philadelphia soul with the song: "Back Stabbers" (1972), and topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973 with the song: "Love Train".
During the remainder of the 1970s, The O'Jays continued releasing hit singles including: "Put Your Hands Together" (#2 R&B, #10 Pop), "For The Love Of Money" (#3 R&B, #9 Pop), "Give The People What They Want" (#1 R&B, #45 Pop), "Let Me Make Love To You" (#10 R&B, #75 Pop), "I Love Music" (#1 R&B, #5 Pop), "Livin' For The Weekend" (#1 R&B, #20 Pop), "Message In Our Music" (#1 R&B, #49 Pop) and "Darlin' Darlin' Baby (Sweet Tender Love)" (#1 R&B, #72 Pop).
Original group member William Powell 🙏🏾 passed away from cancer in 1977 at the age of 35. He was laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton, Ohio.
After adding Sammy Strain, from Little Anthony And The Imperials, The O'Jays continued recording new music and performing across the country. In 1978, the group released the song: "Use Ta Be My Girl", which was their final top five Pop chart hit though they continued placing songs on the R&B charts throughout the 1980s. The O'Jays' success was not confined to the United States as they also logged nine hit singles in the United Kingdom between 1972 and 1983 including four tracks that reached the top 20 on the UK Singles Chart. Their 1987 album: Let Me Touch You, was a breakthrough of sorts and included the #1 R&B hit song: "Lovin' You". Though they continued charting on the R&B charts in the late 1980s and early 1990s The O'Jays never again achieved mainstream pop success.
Eddie LeVert's two sons, Gerald and Sean, formed the R&B group: LeVert, in the 1980s and had a lot of success recording four platinum albums in the process. Gerald LeVert also had success as a solo artists as well as a part of the 1990s R&B group: L.S.G. (LeVert, Sweat, Gill), with Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill. In 1992 Eddie LeVert and his son Gerald LeVert recorded the song: "Baby Hold On To Me", which was a #1 R&B hit and reached #37 Pop on the charts. Eddie LeVert and Gerald LeVert would record two albums together: Father And Son (1995) and Something To Talk About (2006). Both of Eddie LeVert's sons have since passed away 🙏🏾.
In 1992 Sammy Strain left the group and returned to Little Anthony And The Imperials. Sammy Strain's departure from the group was filled by Nathaniel Best (1993-1995) who was later replaced by Eric Grant (1995-2023). In the 1990s the group would release four albums but still remained a popular live in concert draw in American and internationally. The O'Jays would continue to tour and to record new music sporadically in the 2000s and 2010s with their most recent album being: The Last Word, which was released in 2019.
In 2010, TV One produced an Unsung episode of The O'Jays musical career.
Original group member Bill Isles 🙏🏾 passed away in North Carolina on March 25, 2019 at the age of 78. He was laid to rest at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, California.
The O'Jays were among hundreds of artists whose original recording and visual material was destroyed in the 2008 Universal Studios Hollywood studio fire which was started when a worker used a blowtorch to warm asphalt shingles that were being applied to a facade then left before checking that all spots had cooled down.
The following albums by the O'Jays have received RIAA platinum status indicating sales in excess of one million copies: Ship Ahoy, Family Reunion, Identify Yourself and So Full Of Love.
Gold discs, signifying sales in excess of five hundred thousand copies (USA), were awarded by the RIAA for their singles: "Back Stabbers" (1972), "Love Train" (1973), "For The Love Of Money" (1974), "I Love Music" (1975), and "Use Ta Be My Girl" (1978). Also, for the group's albums: Back Stabbers (1972), Ship Ahoy, The O'Jays Live In London (1974), Family Reunion (1975), Survival (1975), Travelin' At The Speed Of Thought (1977), Message In The Music (1976) and Emotionally Yours (1991).
The O'Jays have receive many honors bestowed upon them over the course of their career including: induction into the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame in 2004, induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and induction into the Rhythm And Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Eddie LeVert's cousin is current NBA player Caris LeVert (Cleveland Cavaliers).
The O'Jays, with a group lineup consisting of: Eddie LeVert, Walter Williams and Eric Grant, still perform their songs live on stage in 2024.
