The O"Jays were one of the first groups with their song "Back Stabbers" and producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff of TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia), during the late 1960s-1970s helped usher in the disco sound. The music included funk influences, lush instrumental arrangements, often featuring sweeping strings and piercing horns.

I think they were originally from Cleveland. They were part of the"Philly Soul" sound. Just like Detroit had Motown, Memphis had Stax, and Muscle Shoals had Muscle Shoals sound, Philadelphia had the Philly Soul sound. The Ojays, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes(Teddy Pendergrass),Billy Paul, Lou Rawls and various others. It features great backing vocals and amazing orchestration, featuring horns and strings.
