Will Werner be a success at Spurs?

  • A Premier League return for Timo Werner is now looking very likely, but this time the German international has his eyes set on North London and Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur. After a disappointing stint at Chelsea, will Werner’s bad form follow over at White Hart Lane? Or could this be the second coming of ’Turbo Tim’?
With the January transfer window now in full swing, Spurs are looking to strengthen their attacking options, especially with their current injury list. Plus the likes of club captain, Son Heung-min and in form Yves Bissouma leaving for international duty. Can Timo be the answer to Postecoglou’s prayers?
Adam Leventhal is joined by Liam Twomey, Jack Pitt-Brooke and Seb Stafford-Bloor.

This loan is more about Ange, than Timo. Ange so far has gotten more out of the same players in a hard working style. Timo is a classic example of a player Ange can get the best out of. Timo currently is not starting or playing much in Germany.

Having watched the Spurs V Man United game I immediately noticed that Werner got himself in the place to shoot at goal or distribute to others in a better position but he immediately dithered. Now this his first game and he has not had the hard training that is developing the instinctive passing to players in better space. He seemed to freeze in the game so he will need to be worked hard on being competent and confident playing Ange’s style.

  • @A-se2ur
    @A-se2ur Před 5 měsíci +24

Simply put, I reckon Werner is in Ange’s plans because:
    1) their need for depth in the final third. Even when Kane was at Spurs, without him, they were light in this department.
    2) the shared (or at least similar) attritutes with Kyogo Furuhashi whom he personally brought in at Celtic. Speed, awareness of space. Ange tends to prefer the raumdeuter CF rather than a complete centre forward in his 4-2-3-1 formation.

The thing is. Werner isn't coming to Spurs to keep us up or save our season. He has come to aid us in an area that be could prove to be the missing cog. The deal is a great one for Spurs because its a loan and he has a point to prove without any real pressure to prove it. I personally think he will ensure we improve or goals to attempts ratio. Despite what his recent stats might show.

Timo Werner was quite good for Chelsea ( thanks for mentioning the offsides he was sooo hard done by some ridiculous calls ) He scored some important goals for us, always played his heart out and fought for the badge. And he won the CL with us. I think he will be quite good for Spurs

  • @rory4605

We've seen many bright, young players enter the promised land of Chelsea and become swallowed up, mis-used and completely demoralised. Of all our cursed no.9s, only Morata and Lukaku have regained the kind of form that made us sign them in the first place, and for Morata, it's taken years. It takes someone of considerable character to pull their career back after Chelsea. We seem to dish out a special kind of trauma. I hope Timo succeeds.

  • @balders952

Sons problem is he can not break down low block teams. He does run inbto space extremely well when the defender is behind and chasing. Werner offers the ability to dribble past multiple defenders, which would stretch the team for others like son to capitalise.

Ange didn't sign him because of his stint at chelsea.
He signed werner looking at the player who was at RB leipzig before he came to chelsea.
With the right system, any player, I repeat any player regardless of his history with any club regardless of the players performance over there, he can become a world best.
MARK THIS SOMEWHERE, we have seen this multiple times with a lot of players, Lukaku at chelsea and lukaku at inter milan for example

They brought up the stats ... 95/159 pre Chelsea then 23/89 at Chelsea ... but I also heard somewhere at Chelsea he had 16 disallowed for offside but in that regard, some Chelsea fans have noted some of these were down to their midfield delaying passes ... and of course there were a few sitters missed ... but with that, EVERY striker misses sitters, even Harry K and Sonny have and still do ... and so does Richarlison unfortunately ... the thing about strikers is they need the ability to convert to be considered good or great but before any of that, the absolutely vital talent they must have is to be in a goal scoring position to begin with ... before Chelsea, he was on fire ... being at Chelsea, in all honesty, he wasn't too bad but it could / should have been a whole heap better and it trashed his confidence (but there were a lot of players who had come in for big money to Chelsea around that time, who also underperformed, but for some reason, they rarely get mentioned - funny that) ... but today, he's older and with Ange's hand on his shoulder, a whole new opportunity is before him ... with Harry K for a decade we were guaranteed a goal every two or three opportunities ... there's no player around, or even on the horizon, that comes even close to that so we have to spread the goal scoring around because in the end, it's a team game and they all have to step up ... as a Spurs fan I obviously I hope he goes well and I have a sneaky feeling, if he hits the ground running, scores or assists a goal or two or three in his early games then we'll have a major hit on our hands ... if it doesn't work out then me'eh, in 6 months he goes back

but i think the analogy kinda fits. a lot of the players were struggling and quite a few of them were written off. that’s what’s beautiful about tottenham, its a team of misfits and imperfect players all working together to create something greater than the sum of their parts.
son- coming off his worse season both physically, mentally, and statistically
Bentancur and Kulusevski- written off at Juventus, then went through a tough season full on injury and poor team performance last year
Bissouma, Sarr, Gio Lo Celso- outsiders looking in under conte, deemed surplus to requirements
Porro, Royale, Davies- All looked at as not good enough for tottenham, now brought together to become great servants to the club
Vicario- the second option behind Raya and filling the huge hole left by Lloris
Maddison- overlooked by England after Leicester’s fall from the top
Every player had problems and were all being overlooked and written off, some less than others. But the club took a chance and reformed them, kinda like repairing the furniture in a shop.
