Why Radu Drăgusin Fixes One Of Tottenham's Biggest Problems

  • With Eric Dier departing for Bayern Munich, Spurs' back line looks threadbare. As a result, Postecoglu has turned his attention to the highly-rated Romanian centre half; Radu Dragusin. Will he not only improve Spurs, but bring greater defensive flexibility for Postecoglu too?

    Quite incredible how Spurs have transformed one of the most stale, boring and old sides in the league to one of the most exciting sides in Europe. Udogie, Van De Ven, Dragusin, Sarr, Kulusevski and Johnson make a strong young core while Maddison, Romero, Vicario, Bissouma, Porro and Bentancur are a group of very good playing close to their peaks. Son is the icing on the cake, a world class player and true leader. I thought Jose and Conte set them back years but reality is they will be serious challengers for some time.

    • @FranktheFurt
      @FranktheFurt Před 5 měsíci +30

      Porro is only 24, still a ways from his peak you would think. Would also argue that 25 for a CB in Romero is on the younger side given they peak a little later than most positions. Not to mention Vicario at 27 for a GK is on the younger side.
      Regardless, your point stands that it’s a side with exciting young players still developing as well as players really settling into their prime

    Good video but with all due respect, you've got it very wrong about the full-backs. Porro and Udogie are actually very good defensively and Ange likes them to play out wide as well as inside. Radu will be used as a CB but he can cover or come over to RB position when Porro is too far ahead. Ange wont want to play any full-backs with the aim of sitting back, they will be forward or coming inside when possible.

      It’s a genius transfer when you slot him into the team - Porro is fantastic overall but REALLY struggles in the air so gets hit with overhead long balls all the time - Dragusin can perfectly compensate for that weakness, especially when Porro goes forward, as he is the exact opposite in the air.

      Udogie has great physicality and fast, he's great at duels, but he made some blunders. (like against Arsenal and West Ham, but there were more). He's only 21 though, so he'll improve a lot still and he's very mature considering his age overall. What he should improve at imo is his passing. Dragusin will not be playing right back. Spurs have Porro and Emerson and would almost certainly then prefer someone like skipp, sarr, bissouma, etc to fill in if they have an injury crisis. Someone that actually has 360 degree vision and is good under pressure in tight spaces like he demands of his fullbacks. When there was such an injury crisis at Celtic it was Hatate a center mid, not a center back that filled in in that position. A center back like Dragusin does not have close to the profile required.

    I bet he will play on the left side and fill in as 6 allowing players like Bentancur and Bissouma to cover the wing and one to move up to find open spaces. One of the games Ange was concerned about getting exposed on the wing that Bissouma started to drop back when Porro moved into the central area of the middle third. With Dragusin they can move him as 6 and when the ball is lost in the middle third he can drop back as a CB and Micky can cover the wing since he has a superior speed to close down. I felt like Micky was the only speedy cover guy and all that running eventually caught up to him. Now he can potentially take more risk if he has Romero and Dragusin. In the last game against MU they basically played 3 backs and I think he can easily play how Stones played last season.

    Poor analysis towards the end. dragusin won’t play RB unless in some catastrophic emergency. Pedro porro inverts from the RB inward towards midfield, and dragusin will shift over to cover the half CB half RCB space but we won’t ever be a pure out and out RB
