Despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, Tottenham have started the Premier League season in spectacular form with wins over Manchester United, Burnley, and Bournemouth.
The reason? A talented manager in Ange Postecoglou, who has gotten a team of talented players to quickly get to grips with an exciting new style of play.

One thing that’s also incredible about Ange is his caring for academy player, it’s been reported that Academy coach barely expected Ange to show up and apparently as soon as he joined the club he made sure to to talk to the young team and has also been consistently watching them train and told them that if they make enough effort they will get their chances with the first team. And since that academy team have been playing absolutely incredible the impact of Ange is mind blowing

Ange has defended Richarlison's lack of goals for precisely what you identified. No, Richy hasn't scored, but he's made the runs and taken the positions to open up channels. You can also watch Ange on the touch line being happier about player positions and aggressive attacks than many of the goals. Listen to his pressers, he talks as much about how the players play in the system as he does the end results. As a Spurs fan, this is the happiest I've been with the product on the pitch since the best days of Dele, Eriksen, Son and Kane, maybe even happier. It is genuinely fun to watch.

As an Australian Liverpool fan who always enjoyed watching Spurs for their philosophy of the game is about scoring more goals than the opponent, not about defending. I knew Ange was a great fit. His philosophy was aligned with Spurs. He wants to score goals. He wants to play football that brings fans through the gates and gets people excited. He realises that football is a game and that even at the elite level where it's big business it's about putting on a show for the fans. Every side he has coached has played to win by scoring goals, not by preventing them
MY only concern here boils down to when he was back in Australia and he was a little too rigid on that philosophy. Back at Brisbane Roar he had no plan B. They played out from the back even when it didn't make sense. They rigidly stuck to his principals even when that was too risky. I think we saw that at Celtic a little as well in the Champions League. Playing teams that were far better than them they didn't back down. They didn't give up their way and they continued to press and attack. Ultimately at Brisbane it worked and at Celtic even though they failed to get out of the group I think their campaign was commendable. They probably weren't good enough to get through anyway so why play dour defensive football and play for a result when you can go out there and mix it with the best and have some fun and put on a show?

Preseason one of the standout performers was Perisic, he didn't need to adapt his game, a wide left winger with intelligent crossing, been playing that role for many years. Many Spurs supporters were questioning whether Son/Kulu would adapt their game, would Ange turn to Porro, Perisic or even a Reguilon, to maintain that width for Angeball. Maddison is so important also - in the same way that Ange fits the ethos of the club, Maddison fills the perfect role for a Spurs player - the Hoddle/Gazza creative genius that is the soul of Tottenham. No team's fans have been mistreated so much as Spurs fans, with Mourinho/Conte being almost a betrayal of the history of the club, back all the way to George Graham. At the same time Spurs fans have had to watch Arsenal throw off their shackles under Wenger and play the kind of creative, attacking football they thought they were the custodians of. I grew up a Spurs fan in the 80s and remember when Spurs fans used to sing "are you Arsenal in disguise" when the opposition were dour and boring. Haven't been to a game in decades - I wonder when the last time Spurs fans sung that, it wouldn't have made any sense post-1998 or so.

Ange wants his wingers to attack the box in the final third (well he did Celtic). See Kulu's goal v Bournemouth for evidence. Yes they stay wide in the build up but their game isn't to make a half yard to swing low % crosses in but to link the play, slide in runners, be slid in themselves & flash the ball across that near post or cut it back to on rushing midfielders. When working properly you'll see one winger finding the other winger flying off the other flank to score. Same goes for inverted Fullbacks. Tottenham will often score from one fullback finding the other. It's all about attacking the box at speed & causing havoc.

Everyone thought Spurs are a "one man" team. As good as Kane was, Spurs are playing better than ever with or without Kane. Now other players have chances to score and Spurs are less predictable. Opponents used to simply mark Son and Kane.

Looking foward to the summer transfer window and who Ange brings in that will instantly slot in and push some of the players for their spot. Maybe some cheap gems. Definately need a striker and FB. Maybe another midfielder. Great thing is that Udogie and Poro could easily slot into being a winger and Royal and Davis can take their spot if there is injuries. If Son gets injured then we have Richy who I think will start scoring soon.
I wish Kyogo was bought for 20 mil. He would have easily replaced Kane with being a designated goal man.

Spurs had the players to fit Ange system. Its not a system based on individual players its a system based on a players playing as a team. Pass and Move. That's the motto. Pass move into space. With Conte players where told what their solo roles were and they had to only stick to it. Bisumma under Conte perfect example. Conte wanted him to set back and just defend. Win the ball back pass it and then stay in his position or get the ball form a cb make a simple pass then just stay in his position. This is why Perrie was good for Conte. He did what he was told no less no more. Ange has change this. The system he plays is to always be on the front foot. Get forward support each other. Yes the players do have set roles in the system but they can leave that role if they need to. That's the real difference Ange has made.

Thanks for reiterating the fact that Spurs still need proper wingers (Brennan Johnson will be great in this side). I've been banging on about this to all the Spurs fans who insist a striker is needed first. I disagree. This system creates so many chances that lots of players will score goals. Neither Son nor Kulusevski are suited to being an Angeball winger. They both play the easy inside ball too often and don't have the pace or skill to beat their defender regularly on the outside. So far Maddison is providing the knitting when the ball is played back, but this Spurs team is still 30% short of what real Angeball looks like.

The most significant move was getting rid of the Kane, Dier, Lloris leadership. You knew something was up when everytime Kane was injured, Tottenham went on a winning streak in spite of all the press whining about who's going to score the goals. This happened EVERY SINGLE TIME the many times Kane was injured including the 2019 CL final run. There is a reason why Dier is being kept at an arm's length. Kane refused to practice or join in preseason bc he wanted to move to Man City. What kind of leader does that? His comments from Bayern reveals more of his attitude as does Dier's attitude about refusing to be traded and Kane trying to bring Dier to Bayern. Even if the move happens, Dier would be sitting wood all day every day. Bayern's defense is rock solid.
