The British treated us very badly but we overcame those difficult hardships & now we are one of the richest & most successful in Trinidad & Guyana.

My great grandmother on my father´s side came to Trinidad in this way. her father died on the way from a contageous disease spread on the ship. She arrived, 5 years of age, together with her mother and brother in Port of Spain.

So true, I also want Indians and Africans to come together, we faced very similar hardships due to slavery and indentureship. I love my African and Indian brothers and sisters.

Golden1 it's a nice gesture, the term indian really means indigenous slaves that is the meaning of that word they are blacks it's the cast system is what give them the idea that they're better than blacks that's where the racial term came into play

    • @Goldan1

I am not aware that the term Indian means indigenous slaves, I do know that the term can refer to indigenous people. The term can also refer to a native or inhabitant of India, or a person of Indian descent. I guess we learn something new everyday.

Why do we even celebrate this as a drink and eat up today in Trinidad? It should be a day of praise and remembrance. Not lime and fete.

People, The indian decendants in Trinidad are not the richest. The people of Lebanon or syria are the richest. Travel around Trinidad and you will see some Indians living in poverty. For the oil wealth Trinidad had, there should be no poverty regardless of race.
