  • One hundred and seventy two years ago, the first batch of indentured labourers from India said goodbye to their families, left their villages and boarded the Fatel Razack to come to Trinidad to work the sugar plantations.

The Indian people of West Indies should come to India , take Hindi and Sanskrit teachers and Pandits from here and reconnect to their culture as well as spread it to other people there...Love from Uttar Pradesh , India . ❤️❤️❤️

The Indo-caribbeans from Suriname are the only ones who are still able to speak the native Bhojpuri/hindi language. The ones from Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica etc. can not.

Our ancestors also from Bihar/UP who came to Fiji. We still speak Hindi, bhojpuri but were taught Hindi in schools & many can read scriptures.
In Fiji, folk music, chautal, bhajans are still practiced till today & have been taken abroad where many of us Fiji Indians live. I salute our ancestory for all they endured. 🙏

Respect to Dr Sharma. In the Great War (WW1), between 1914 and 1918, 1.5 million Indian sepoys fought for Great Britain against the Central powers of mainly Germany, Austrio- Hungary and Turkey. (Google's history). The Indian was ready to sacrifice his life for the Englishman. Why? The first set of indentureds started coming to Trinidad in 1845, 12 years before the monarchy took control of India, in the time of the British East India Company. The fact that they brought with them their culture, and learning, showed that the indentured came from across caste lines. Was the Indian chosen for indentureship because of a loyalty, subservience and submission to the white Englishman without question? Something which must have confounded the Englishman who always expected violent resistance to their rule? Good replacement for the freed African slaves. Same oppression and exploitation but willing to serve? What was their motivation?

How stupid can you be? The motivation was MONEY. Nonviolent resistance? Read some history books man. In the 1700s and parts of the 1800s India successfully fought off British colonization in the Siege of Calcutta and in Ambur etc. The indians took British men, wives and children and slaughtered them and dumped them in wells. The indians came to the Caribbean as PAID WORKERS. The motivation was for MONEY and for a better life. 15% of the indians that came were upper caste while the rest were lower caste and muslims. These people came for a better life that they could never have in India.
