  • I made this video for Indian Arrival Day 2023 to honor our ancestors who came to Guyana and Trinidad. When the plantation owners were no longer allowed to enslave innocent Africans, they brought Indians to their plantations under the indentured servitude system.

    Hi I am 72 years old, my grandfather on my father's side came to Trinidad, I think in 1916 because my father were born in 1917 my mother used to tell us that my grandfather used to cry to go back to India 🇮🇳 because he left behind his wife and children in India and he met my grandmother on the ship, he used to wear a Turban they say he came Punjab I were a baby when he died so that means that he died 71 years ago, as I said he used to cry to go back home, from Bellrose NY

    Hi Melissa, I enjoyed your well presented educational video. I can see the meticulous & assiduous research you have presented into this Indian Arrival Day video. My family are from Jamaica that's why I have a interest in Caribbean history. I shall certainly be searching for some of those publications & using your video's as a study guide...

      Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words! I am slowly learning more about Jamaican history as I do my research. I agree that some of the books I mentioned can help because many of the islands have a similar history and set of resources. Also, Henry Jaghai is a Jamaican history that might have books specific to Jamaica.

    It would be wonderful to do a study of two groups. One who stayed back in T&T after the indenture period was over and the other group who came back to India. Perhaps a joint Indo TT research can be done

    • @Lawyer_Melissa
      @Lawyer_Melissa  Před rokem +2

      I saw one study. They could not locate many who returned. I believe that some ended up living in very poor conditions, some could not find their homes, and some ended up coming back to the Caribbean. It was a research paper. I will try to locate it

    Thank you so much for the information and speaking this truth. I'm a first generation American. Both my parents are from Guyana ( Afro Guyanese and Indo Guyanese). I had no information of my African roots because we're so far removed, but had a general area of reference for India. Thanks to 23 and me, I was able to learn the country and tribe we came from in Africa and the state in South India. If your interested, I read a book by David Alston- Slaves and Highlanders. It focuses on Scotland history in Guyana specifically Berbice where my family is from. It was jarring to say the least to see 5he name of the man who bought my ancestors and gave us our last name.

    Hi Melissa be proud you great grand parents are Indians.India was the richest country on the planet before muslim kings and Bruts i call britishers with that repect name because they brutally killed our great great grand forefathers,rapped women, looted wealth, forcefully converted hindus into Christians or islam, destroyed vulnerable ancient hindu culture and world famous businesses. Only ancient Indians contributed a lot to the world more than any country on the planet. ROMANS,EGYPTIANS came to India and studied .learned and implemented those in their countries.Even today also Indian is the Spiritual Guru and the only holy land in the world.There are many mysterious temples in India scientists all over world ae unable to solve.HINDUISM is based on profound SANATANA DHARMA which teaches a lot say NON VOILENCE,TRUTH IS LIFE LIFE IS TRUTH, SACRIFICE,RESPECT ELDERS AND LADIES,GOD IS YOU YOU ARE GOD ways to realise you are god,NATURE FRIENDLY.Hinduism is the only ancient religion dated more than 10000 years back never conquered any country. Hinduism is the only peaceful religion on the planet compare to CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS.TEACHES ABOUT SOUL KNOWLEDGE BETTER THAN CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS.
