Do you like the Ram's new turbo six-cylinder, or is no V8 a no-go? Let us know in the comments!
Media and Manufacturers are stupid, or think that we are, with this V8 is unnecessary BS. V8 or nothing. We can think for ourselves.
NO V8 NO GO
Never.
Losing HEMI is a huge mistake.
The Hemi dinosaur is finally gone,..........new inline 6 turbos awesome.
We’ll all miss the V8. The sounds alone is worth half the price of this truck 🛻
The sounds of V8 makes me smile.
In turn, it lowers my blood pressure.
In essence it’s healthier for many of us.
I love your analogy… 👏. So true 👍
V8 for life
Stellantis reliability with a new, over boosted turbo engine, I’ll wait to see all the issues with this engine
Did they have issues with the Giuila quad? That thing was 2.9L and boosted 35psi
What i said...lease them the first couple years see how they hold up
@@michaelstarks5656 True but this engine has been in development for literal years, it's been in testing since early in the FCA days, they just didnt want to spend the money on using it when the paid for hemi was a self filling cash register.
Yup they sure did. Terrible reliability. @@FrankBullitt390
They'll recall it once the EPA catch them cheating and then it will suck....ala' first gen ecodiesel
When maintained properly (especially oil changes) the 'old' HEMI 5,7 was a great and reliable engine. Power output was more than sufficient for 99% occasions, it sounded just great and in combination with the 8 gear ZF automatic it provided a very smooth and effortless performance.
I wonder if the new Hurricane can ever step up to these virtues; especially longevity.
It's a pity that the naturally aspirated V8s are being sacrificed to unrealistic and highly theoretical MPG ratings of the smaller turbo engines.
Exactly mate, the EPA is nothing but a huge cancer to the car and truck community
The 5.7 has had major camshaft problems for years now. There's a class action lawsuit over it. Although I'm sure they'll find a way to make sure this new engine fails too and has its own lawsuits.
@@nodak81 The issue isn't the camshaft, the issue is vendor supplied lifters. If you get a bad one the needle bearings sieze up and stop rolling, and then the lifter starts hitting the cam and eating the lobe. Nothing wrong with the cam if you don't get a bad lifter.
@@nodak81 ...You will have issues with a engine they made upteen millions of...Ford,gm,Toyota have all engines with major issues..
I have a B58 straight six bmw stage 1 with 420hp. If the stellantis is as good it will be a gem. The sound though, the v8 wins every time.
Hope this info is helpful. I have a Ram 1500 hemi my wife has a Wagoneer 3L hurricane SO we decided to do a light to light race because she is just a number lol she smoked me. Easily smoked me. I get 1mpg better than she does on the highway. She gets 3 better than me in town. Side note: she smoked me, but i sound way better lol That I6 is nearly silent. This guy says you won't miss the V8 but I'll tell you you'll miss that musical Hemi sound.
Had many Mopars and still do. Wife has a Grand Wag L with the HO Hurricane and it rides out. Once aftermarket tunes come and get rid of the lag, these will truly be beasts. I still do enjoy the V8 rumble too though. Have a 25 Limted with HO on order btw.
@@jasongray3616 The lag hasn't been noticeable on the SO. Maybe the extra boost on the HO needs a half second to ramp things up. Enjoy your new one !
Tunes and exhaust on the HO are gonna wake these up big time. In two years, this will be the best truck.
It’s about time a company went back to the legendary straight 6.
Does nobody consider longevity anymore??
I guess not. That was my point in a comment I wrote on another review of this new Ram. Very sad to see the V8 go...I've always been a V8 guy and grew up being taught that a truck wasn't a real truck unless it was V8 powered. The Hemi wasn't the most reliable engine ever but a lit of that was attributed to the stupid MDS that Ram was kinda forced to put on the HEMI for fuel economy, and the engine had been out so long that we knew what the issues were and how to prevent or remedy them when they came up. These turbo I4s, I6s, and to a lesser extent the Ford turbo V6 are really a new frontier for full size trucks and only time will tell if they're capable of anything close to the longevity and reliability of the V8s from 20 years ago. These have a lot more moving parts and are higher revving, small displacement, high strain units so something tells me they won't be the "old reliable" that V8 trucks were known for.
Sadly this is the future given emissions standards across the world. Also even if you get just a modern V8 they have made them so complicated to make it as efficient as possible that they are now over complicated as well. Look at any modern V8 diesel that is produced they are so complicated and they break so often in comparison to older diesels. It just the world we live in now sadly.
They want it to break down just in time for combustion engines to be banned look at Chevy putting a turboed 4 banger in a 1500, that not lasting lol
Exactly mate, no V8 means no thanks
@weegeemike Exactly mate, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 160,000 miles on it and still going strong and it's a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla Exhaust as well.
I want to be so excited, but gonna wait until the inevitable recalls get sorted out.
it's a Stellantis product. Recalls are normal it's standard operating procedure. If Ford didn't have its consecutive three year run of using the utmost garbage parts suppliers to save nickels on production costs Ram would still be the most warranty repaired and recalled pickup.

It used to be that rust and poor maintenance were the greatest enemies to vehicle longevity. Now it is government and manufacturers.

If it were not for government. Trucks and cars would waste fuel. Dodge made the last 3 speed automatic minivan.
@blackericdenice and if properly maintained, that minivan could outlive this truck by decades.
Right because those hemis and their lifters just lasted forever.

V8 was grainy? What do that even mean
I went to look at a new ram a few weeks ago, last of the V8's (said in a MadMax style) I'm in Canada so a Rebel was $80K. I just shook my head.. they all had trailer plug wiring but only 1 in 10 had a hitch. Almost none had tow hooks. My "requirements" were tow hook, trailer tow package, auto 4x4, cruise, decent stereo, 3.92 gears, rear locker/limited slip(either or), crew cab. And adaptive cruise/heated/cooled seats would be nice. I told them I didn't want lane keeping, collision mitigation, telematics(the black box/ota updates/etc), that stupid feature that won't let you drive if a door is open, I don't want any nannies, some days don't want ABS and some days Traction control tries to kill me. Sales guy didn't know half the "features" I was talking about and tried telling me "you can turn them off" ... no no you can't. On my '12 Ram you can turn down traction control, but it's still on, even though it says off. My wife has a '16 Durango and I was backing it into a tight spot, still had more than a foot off the side and 8ft off the rear it starts slamming on the brakes. I hate all these nannies and features like limited self driving, they allow drivers to get complacent and have less skill because they think the tech will save them in a pinch. /rant
Fun fact. The ADAS system (Assisted Driver Assistance System) & DMS (Driver Monitoring System)
If you're in an accident that causes a severe injury or death, the computer will store video of the driver. (Like a black box.)
So, if you're txt'ing you'll be caught
2025 is early, 2026-2027 it's going to become law that it's mandatory on all new vehicles.
Don’t text and drive and you won’t kill people.
i have been testing the ADAS system for the '25 RAM DT specifically for the past two years... the driver monitoring "camera" is infrared, it doesn't actually capture clear color video of you. Other manufacturers might do this though
Don't forget about the built-in breathalyzer.
$90k , wow !!!
Are the heated and cooled seats going to become subscription based as well?............ Why buy a feature and then have to pay that after awhile?
Glad I got my 2019 5.7 Hemi Laramie crew cab 4-wheel drive Max Towing love my truck love the V8 plenty of power i like the tow mirrors of the truck you were pulling the Airstream with
No complaints with my 5.7 hemi. It's an awesome truck with plenty of power and smooth acceleration and it sounds great
*great review as always, question What fuel economy numbers were you getting during your test drive ?*
Likely 15 ish. The Wagoneer has the same power plant and weight and that's about what you can expect. A Corolla or Civic this is not. 6000 pounds
Kinda weird that the government is forcing the engine changes and we are not really seeing much mpg improvement. Power is up and that’s great. As we all know All manufactures are abandoning v8’s. And all manufactures are struggling to improve mpg.
As a Dodge/Ra, owner of 30+ years, I wouldn't touch that eng for a long, long time.
It’s true powerhouse that will outlast a hemi engine. A straight 6 is most balanced engine. Thats why all trailer trucks use straight 6 with huge turbos. Most have over 5 million miles.
I have a 4th gen hemi and I’m loving this new hurricane HO. Maybe I’ll snag one if the used market gets down to $40ishk
I went from a tuned 2018 Raptor to a 2020 Ram Limited. I loved everything about the truck except the Hemi, it felt so weak compared to the tuned Raptor.
The tuned Raptor was making about the same power as this new High output inline 6 so this might make me go back to a Ram.
After 22 months with the Ram I went back to a Raptor and had it tuned the first week!
I do love the Raptor but sometimes I miss the smooth ride of the Ram, I will see how this new engine holds up and might just be back in a Ram next year.
Good input
Why would you compare a tuned truck to a non tuned one. Of course it would be less powerful.
@@VictorMartinez-co3ds even stock the Raptor makes the Hemi feel powerless and then adding the tune really changes the game.
I had bought an unlocked computer and a 93 octane tune for the Ram but I couldn’t tell any difference from the stock Hemi or the tune, except the speed limiter was turned off.
The 5.7 was a huge letdown. I always said, why didn’t Ford bring back the legendary straight 6 and build it for turbo technology. It’s so easy to do. A V block by design is not balanced like a true straight block.
I give Dodge tons of credit for going back to the most tried and true block design. A straight 6 with Turbos. Easy technology in a basic design.
I always said the secret to longevity is right in front of every truck manufacturer, yet they don’t even bother.
Every trailer truck out there has a straight 6 with massive turbos. They are built to go millions of miles.
Yet all the companies spend so much R&D into V blocks. I’ll never get it.
Dodge will steal tons of owners from GM and Ford with this new engine. GM and Ford might have to follow.
Mazda which is known to be extremely reliable, just built their straight 6 too. They put it in their most expensive vehicle. That says it all.
BMW B58. An absolute legend. Toyota even approved it and had them build a Supra for them. Toyota proudly put their badge on it.
@@ryanb8736Some really good points. I always said these straight six’s have been proven and reliable. Maybe Ram went to a well known durable engine cause gas will be out soon or soon enough really. I would be comfortable with this new hurricane in a heart beat… back in my day ya couldn’t kill those engines. Even ford had a good straight 6 back in the day. Why people don’t know this? Well I guess there to young to know.
Pentestar Smooth v6 with 134hp and 210 lbs of torture very nice 👌 👍
I drove Grand Wagoneers, and Wagoneers for evaluation. They ran hot all the time. The fan was running all the time. Yes they have power. I think that engine will have reliability issues in the long run.
90G they will be sitting on the lots for a long time!!
you will probably be lucky if you see one at that price. Most will be more I'm sure. I'll be damned if I am spending 90-100K on a half ton pickup "luxurious" or not.
That price puts on the same footing as the F-150 Platinum Plus. Plenty of people put there willing to pay that much.

The average person doesn't want these turbocharged V6. We want naturally aspirated that will last us for 300,000 or more miles, without having to replace turbo's.
My pops and I both have vehicles over 300K miles, early 2000's vehicles.
This new crap with turbocharged 4 cylinders and 6 cylinders is silly.
Democrat Media and Government thinks we are all stupid sheep. Climate Change is BS, We are not giving up our V8 and red meat, and not accepting stolen elections.
Agreed. My dad has a '90 Sierra 1500 with the old 5.7 350 and it has over 660k mi on it and the engines never been touched besides maintenance items. My 2000 Sierra 5.3 is pushing 300k mi and still runs great and the engine has never had any catastrophic issues. These small displacement, turbo, high strain engines are asking for problems especially when people used to old trucks beat on them and maybe miss a maintenance interval or two. Only time will tell if these new engines will hold up and something tells me that they won't come close to the longevity and reliability found in V8 trucks from 20+ years ago.
Inline 6 not v6
I agree 100% brother, I have a 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 210,000 miles on it and still going. The only things I replaced on my truck was the starter, the rear fuel pump, and the power steering magnesium but other then that mostly was just simple maintenance and took out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since. I also have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 160,000 miles on it as well and it's a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla Exhaust as well.
💯% my Friend , it's a Fucking Joke !!!!
I had the 2020 1500 Laramie with the 5.7 for 3 years, and I loved it. No clue what he was meaning when he said it didn't accelerate.
I was considering one of these but after looking at the Durango Hellcat with the 6.2 V8 and test driving it I had to get it! Nothing compares to a supercharged v8 and I can haul my family with an rv trailer! Sad to see all these v8s go.
V8 was grainny ?? V8 was awesome!!!

They could've upgraded the processor for the infotainment. They should've used more physical controls, especially for HVAC. It's annoying to go through different screens for something simple like adjusting cabin temps or turning on seat heaters/coolers.
Hemi provided plenty of power😂 honestly more then needed. I can get my 6000 pound ram hemi over 130mph
That's it needs to do at least 160
How’d you bypass speed limiter? Probably not wise for your driveshaft.
How? Its speed and rev limited by the software.
Did you remove the limiter or you just lying?
Um, no you can't. The TRX doesn't even reach 130 because it has a limiter, just like your Ram does. Do you know why? Because it's brick building on springs. Are you high? Who would take a big truck up to 130 anyway without lowering and some major suspension overhaul done to make it stable?
I'll miss the iconic V8 sound and rumble now where stuck listening to a V6 sounding like a 4 cylinder in a tunnel
You should learn before making false statements. It’s a straight 6. Not a V. That’s a massive difference.
That’s why trailer trucks use straight 6 with huge turbos, instead of an unbalanced block like a V6/V8. They last forever.
This is why V8’s in trucks have such high failure. Way too much movement inside with movement side to side.
A straight engine is the most balanced if done right. A 4 is not long enough to be balanced. A long six is super balanced now.
@@ryanb8736You’re a moron! V8 vs I6 is virtually no difference in reliability. And for that matter V6 makes no difference either. How WELL BUILT is what determines engine longevity. And in fact V8s run smoother than a 6 cylinder of any layout…
Mack, Caterpillar, Cummins and Scania have all had EXTREMELY good V8s over the years. But more importantly… Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota and even Nissan have all got fantastic V8 engines that are extremely reliable and durable.
Are you seriously trying to make a comparison between 1/2 ton pickup engines and 15-18 liter heavy truck DIESEL engines?!?!😂😂😂 Because as a 20 year diesel mechanic… I can assure you there is NO comparison to be made.
The issue here is that you’re asking an engine HALF the size of the normal engine to do 3 times more work. I assure you. It might take a few years, but as soon as actual truck guys buy this thing and start towing and hauling. They WILL easily find the limits of this engine. And it WILL 100% be quick and catastrophic.
I loved my rebel and only ever had 1 complaint and that was fuel economy. 11-13 mpg average was god awful everything else was awesome but every other brand truck got better milage. So if the twin turbo gets at least 18-20mpgs that would be enough for me to go back because ram really has the best interiors and thats what sold me in the first place. I don't tow huge rvs and boats so towing didn't matter to me. But they are still to expensive so I'll wait a couple years and grab one for about 30k less

No, this is the earliest ever.. I have owned eight brand new ram's over the years and the next year's model will normally come out around August of the year before...
Historically the inline 6 is very strong high torque engine. Semi trucks for example are usually in line 6 and run a million miles. Hopefully this does not turn out to be junk.
Yes same with the 6.7. The problem is it being produced by FCA along with two turbos. I senses reliability nightmare.

I will wait a couple of years after the twin turbo six is in the Ram to see how many issues they have with them. I’m assuming that because it has a twin turbo it will need premium gas to get the full potential out of it. As long as the radiator has extra cooling, there should be no issues. My wife and I own turbodiesel pickups. The key to fuel economy is staying out of the turbo. Our '18 Ram 2500 4wd 6.7L turbochaged Cummins gets 22mpg hauling our 4Wheel pop up camper. The key to modern driveability is the transmission. We have several 6 cylinder Mopar gas vehicles; a '23 Jeep JLU Sport S Altitude, a '20 Dodge Durango GT AWD, a '96 Jeep ZJ 4.0L. The JLU has 3.45 ratio with 32"" tires, and got 27mpg going from Lancaster, CA, to Fresno, by way of Lee Vining, Tioga Pass, and the Yosemite Valley. The top speed driven was 65mph.
On my '16 Ram 1500 4wd 3.92 ratio 3.0L Ecodiesel. The fuel economy is awesome, the off road driveability is awesome, the mountain driving is awesome. But when the engine is cold, Tow/Haul mode needs to used. The key with hurricane will be cooling. If a 4 row radiator is included, everything should be fine. If Ram does not really let the driver have ALL the available power. Bank's has a solution called the Pedal Monster. The 3.6L Pentastar has lots of power, and a Pedal Monster will prove that little v6 has more power than a typical v8 from the 1980's or 90's, with way more fuel economy!
Twin turbo twin headaches 😂😂😂
Turbo is the most basic technology. They last forever if done right. Straight 6 is the most balanced block design.
Double the power🤔🙂
Don’t worry buddy the hemis are shit too
Nothing beats a V8.
Willing to bet my little 318 magnum. In my 01 will out last 90% of these trucks. No rust where I live. And the engine serviced regularly.
Will miss the extra 1k towing
I really like your review.. through, direct and not cheesy! These new engines are already known to have way more power available with even some minor tuning. Rest assured companies are already developing and testing them. Yes the HEMI sound is missing but I predict when people get in the driver's seat and feel the Hurricane it will be really nice. Just turn up the 24 speaker sound system! Again love your review!
It’s painfully obvious Ram doesn’t want anyone to hear the exhaust note
A great truck for 3 years/ 36,000 miles.
does the v8 get better fuel economy?
A whole. Otha. Level.
Can it produce the HEMI exhaust note?😅
Lots of Rams piling up at dealerships everywhere.
Just me, but if Ford put an updated turbo version of their old 300 six I would buy it.
Same here. I've owned both a 300 and a 200 inline-six and they were the best engines I've ever owned.
Bingo! Someone with knowledge. A straight 6 designed for big turbos will be the best ever.
That’s why trailer trucks use them.
I’ve been yelling at Ford for decades for not making a turbo straight 6. Millions of us would have bought them.
@@nodak81My best truck I ever had was a 91 Ford X cab with straight 4.9 and a manual. I tried to kill it. I couldn’t.
That engine is so lodged into my brain for longevity.
When will the wasp hornet get the ho 6
