  • It’s easy to make diy faux leather earrings with a Cricut machine. There are many places to buy faux leather for diy earrings, but one of the most accessible places is Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby makes so many colors and designs of faux leather for your next earrings diy. You can find this faux leather for your next earring diy project or hair bow diy by looking in the ribbon section of Hobby Lobby. The faux leather comes on a spool and is actually called faux leather ribbon, under the brand name The Ribbon Boutique. The leather retails at $4.99 but they have promotions every couple of weeks, promoting the diy earrings faux leather for 50 percent off.
There are lots of great designs and a lot patterns of this faux leather at a great price, making a Cricut earrings project affordable. But sometimes this faux leather can be tricky to cut on the Cricut machines. The thickness of the material varies between designs, making settings inconsistent. Some are pretty thin, while others are thicker.
This video share tips and tricks to cutting the Hobby Lobby faux leather ribbon. There's nothing worse than a Cricut project gone wrong, and I definitely experienced many challenges with Hobby Lobby faux leather ribbon. I've learned many hacks for improving the success rate of my faux leather Hobby Lobby faux leather ribbon cuts.
If you're ready throw your hands up and walk away from making earrings, don't do it just yet. Check out the Cricut How To's in this DIY earring video which I hope can help you reach some success.

When you finish cutting for the day and your mats look "dirty" from the edges of the earrings, you can wash your mat with non-alcohol baby wipes. I buy packs at Dollar Tree and they work great! I then hang them on a pant's hanger with the 2 clips and let them dry. Even a really dirty mat that has never been cleaned...and it has so little stickiness left that you always have to tape everything down...you will be amazed at how much more life you can get. Cleaning them as you go along when you are done for the day...because it takes a while to dry completely & get all sticky again!

Another great tip to resticky mats...after you’ve cleaned your mats several times and the sticky is all or mostly gone, try using the Zig two-way glue (broad tip) to resticky them. This has given new life to super old, dirty mats and mats that have absolutely no sticky left. I buy them on Amazon. Be sure to get the broad tip to make it quicker.

I also use soap and water on all but my fabric grip and it works beautifully. I have a clothes drying rack and just lay them on the shelves of that puppy to dry. I just got my maker end of 2021 and i saw the cleaning tips on a CZcams video before i even got it in the mail so i have been cleaning mine with either baby wipes or when they really need some tlc, take it to my tub and use the soft side of my sponge.

I am glad I am not the only one who uses the strong transfer tape for projects like that. I never thought of doing the test pull method to make sure it cut all the way through before unloading the mat. I am definitely going to be doing that from now on. I am newish to the Cricut world but I have found a deep passion for making earrings and engraving. I recently purchased the Faux Leather from HL and struggled so bad I bagged it back up and planned on returning it...I am going to unbag it and try again using your tips and tricks. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this.

I've used the iron on to itself and worked fine. And love the faux leather. Have used heat bond on one side then cut pair of earrings with and without then iron them together. Worked great for me. Hard to find the FL these days so when I came across the iron on I stocked up on the colors they had. Don't think they'll hold up for clothing but jewelry and bows they should be fine. And the iron on sheets are 12x12, fitting my scrapbook containers for storing. Do advise to run roller over the cuts before weeding. And have patience. Cheaper does come with downfalls but some savings at least helps. I'm hoping to use it on some other projects soon. 🙏 it works for them too. Back to crafting

    @cindys7376 Před 3 lety +2

    Intricate cuts are possible 🤗
I used your tips in this tutorial and played around with different blades, tools and settings until I figured it out.
    Here’s what I did:
    Tools:
    -Cricut Maker
-Deep cut blade (Roland brand from Amazon- cheaper than Cricut brand and just as good)
-Strong grip mat (NICAPA brand from Amazon- cheaper than Cricut brand and better in my opinion)
    -Strong-grip transfer tape (Cricut brand)
    -Painters tape (Dollar Tree)
    -Brayer (Cricut brand)
    -Pointed, but dull tip tweezers
-Small tweezer type spatula tool (Cricut brand)
-Cuticle scissors (small, curved-blade scissors with sharp pointed tips)
    -Hobby Lobby pebbled faux leather
-SVG: Tropical Monstera leaf image (Pinterest has some free options)
    -Lighter
-Place the strong bond transfer tape with sticky side up onto your mat, remove paper from the sticky side after you place it
-Apply faux leather face down on top of your strong bond transfer tape (use a piece that’s just big enough for your image- (I leave about an inch parameter around the image)
-Apply painters tape around edges of faux leather
-Brayer faux leather and painters tape onto transfer tape/mat (apply a good amount of pressure)
-Use snap mat to insure your image is placed exactly where you want it on the mat
    -Deep cut blade
    -Settings: Denim, bonded; more pressure
-Cut one complete pass through (the denim, bonded setting automatically cuts twice)
DO NOT CLICK EJECT ARROWS! Leave everything just like it is and...
-Remove blade from housing and clean it by blowing the lint off, then puncture a ball of aluminum foil multiple times. Return blade to housing.
-Very carefully, Brayer your cut leaf while it is still on the mat-pressing down any small areas that may be sticking up. Be careful not to disturb your mat too much, so you don’t off-set the next cut
-Click the “C” button again. This will cause the machine to go over your exact cut again (twice because of the denim, bonded setting).
-When the cut is finished, without clicking the eject button, make sure that your faux leather is cut, cleanly. If you do have a clean cut, click eject arrows button
-Gently remove your cut image by using tweezers and the spatula-like tweezers. Be careful, the image is delicate and will tear easily
-Use cuticle scissors to cut out any tiny holes, edges, etc. that didn’t cut cleanly. The small curved blades are perfect to get into tiny spaces.
-Also, make all cuts/trims from the back side of the faux leather, not the front
-Use a lighter to gently go over fuzzy edges. (Heat a tiny bit at a time, it’s easy to over do it)
    * I was able to make 1.5” monstera leaf earrings with these techniques

@my inspiration corner thank you so much for sharing this video! I knew most of what you showed but I did want to share a tip I learned when cutting double sided faux leather sheets. I found them on Etsy from seller The Art of Fabric Folding & LOVE LOVE LOVE them. They aren't very expensive but I did have a heck of a time trying to cut them as they are a good bit thicker than any of the hobby lobby types. I tried a couple dozen different setting and blade combos & finally found that if you use the deep cut blade on the shimmer leather 1mm setting & instead of unloading after the 1st cut, do a double cut the cut comes out beautifully! Unfortunately I went through a ton of product trying to find the right cut setting and blade. :( I LOVE the double sided faux leather because its the perfect weight & you don't have to worry about covering up the other side of your cut. Thanks again for sharing!!

Have you ever tried the rotary blade for the extra thin faux leather that bunch up with the fine point blade?

Hello! I am watching your video AGAIN! I ordered the 9x9, mat, and mini through your link. Looked like good deals! I work on a Cameo 4. Not a lot of experience, but enough to know that I need more study. This video is GREAT! Over the past year, since Black Friday last year, I have stockpiled supplies. I love earrings and have learned from you videos. I have the Hobby Lobby fauxs and will enjoy learning on them! I also have ordered from Pink Antler & Art of Fabric. I made sure they knew that you sent me! When I get to selling I will always credit those who taught me. You will be included here. I will let you know in advance. I will have next Holiday season as my target date. I also do polymer clay and beading, with respective artist credits there, also! My moccasins and tooling jewelry (still learning there!) are my own designs!!! I know that people do not always shop in one place. Giving credit to other shops makes everyone happier. So I wanted to take this time to say THANK YOU! Blessings and Re Jouir -Darlene

Do you use a deep cutting blade or the fine cut blade? I sent my hobby lobby faux leather through my explorer air 2 about 6 times and it still didnt cut all the way through. I took the blade out a couple times to sharpened it on some foil too

Thank you for a really great video. I have the HL Faux Leather Ribbon and followed along the video and wrote on each label what it was cut on, what blade, and of course the most important part, how many passes. Of course not knowing my first project after the one that came with my Maker was earrings made with the buffalo print. Boy was that a learning experience. Glad it was on sale. I wasted my 1st and 2nd try.

When you have 5x5 or 12x12, how to get the most out of your sheet? Maybe put the second teardrop upside down. Also, what are some more shapes you can get in the sheet of leather? I do make jewelry but I'm just starting out with leather. In the beginning, do I have to buy the heat and press?

I tried to watch all of this. This lesson is great because you will learn all Faux leather is not the same. I cant get the Hobby Lobby bumpy Gold to cut in a silhouette or sizzex press. It has a cotton back.. its thick and even the front seems to be made of Kevlar.. Just hard to cut. I bought some maroon vinyl from Jo Ann's that had a cotton back and it's a pain to cut.. it just has strands that stick in the cuts.
I may have to try putting transfer paper on front.
This is a great video that let's people know all Faux leather is not the same..
    What Really is Faux Leather..lol
    Glitter, fur, vinyl???

This video is great. I have a question I'm trying to cut gold foil vinyl fabric. I'm cutting little Cresent moons, but when it cuts the far side of it, it lifts up and doesn't cut the inner part. I have it gold side down, strong grip mat and on denim bonded. I'm wondering if the transfer tape with help.

I have the same issues with iron-on material and have had great success with taping down with washi tape...even if I accidentally get the tape in the cutting zone, the washi is so thin that my Cricut just cuts right through without issue. Hope that helps 🤗

What about the Hobby Lobby “faux leather” glitter sheets? What mat, blade, settings would you use (chunky and fine glitter).
Not sure if you have experimented material from hobby lobby almost has like a canvas backing.

  • @freeangie11
    @freeangie11 Před 3 lety

I use just a few of these hobby lobby faux leathers to mix and match with real leather if I can't find a design on genuine leather I like. Always put on top the faux.
When you use these you end up working triple and using more materials to hide the fake or imperfections. In my opinion and you can't sell them for much. At the end I rather to use less materials ( genuine leather in One step, No coverings and selling them for better price, and better quality. Less time making. 🤩😎
