I’ve been thru 2 partnerships and there won’t be a third, just make sure you don’t give too much leash out,, where a dog can bite you in the wallet. The second go around I run everything across my accountant as I always had respect for his opinion and his first few words were,, Partnerships are like playing cards with the devil.

I am a CPA. I too hate partnerships. Seen too many go to poop. I advice client to first figure out how to to end the partnership first, and to figure what happens when the business need more cash and one can no or will not put up more cash. Partnerships are like living with a cheating spouse. You must get YOUR lawyer to draw up thge partnership agreement. If you can not afford the attorney, you can not afford to get into the the deal.

I couldn't help but laugh while watching this one! I work for a company in California that leases equipment (mostly tractors with mower attachments) to a particular government agency that deals with the roads/highways (I'm sure you can guess which one) and you would be amazed at some of the people who get put into equipment and the breakdowns they call about

What you said, rentals aren't treated with respect and I too am guilty of being harder on rental stuff as opposed to my own stuff. People dog me all the time on a video where I rented an injector cup removal/install to and I used vice grips on it rather than a wrench... LOL.
Like when I rent a puller from say autozone, I don't lube it up, now had I owned it I most def would lube up the threads LOL.

I don't comment a lot but this video is right up my alley . Good advice pre rental , do a diagnostic print out for the client . After rental you do the same . Install tracking devices with override power and charge by the running hour of the machine . The bullshit I've had to deal with can ruin your life . And yes , 300hp machines are doing good but I tune them down a bit . The 120 to 150hp range only works for me with a frontloader . I don't want to discourage anybody but please do know what you get yourself into . My first years I worked almost day and night fixing stuff and running after my money .

I have been in the Bucket Truck and Digger Derrick rental business for a long time. Make sure you guys get a iron clad whole harmless agreement and the renter has to provide you with a certificate of insurance for no less than a million dollars or even better five to ten million. Make sure you do a inservice before they leave the lot and take plenty of pictures before leaving the lot. I have had some renters try to change tires on me. If something can be broken stolen or wrecked it will happen. One other thing, make sure you go and service the tractor when it’s on a long term rent.

I'll take a guess at what emissions will lead to. The DPF is dirty yes. We send them out to a radiator shop here in Buffalo that cleans them. We also will replace the DOC if it still wont get up to temp. On SCRs we get inefficiency codes now and then. When this happens we check the dosing valve spray and check the composition tube needs to be clean. Make sure all pipes aren't leaking then change the in and out sensors. If it still fails it needs an scr. Engine coolant burned through exhaust kills scr's. This could happen when an EGR cooler fails or whatever causes coolant to be mixed with the combustion process. Ill be watching, your very clever and I'm learning.

With the partnership, you want to be paid for the tractor, not for wrenching on it. Else it merely displaces the work you already do, and doesn't get you ahead. You want the tractor to work for you instead of only you for the tractor. If you get that figured out before you put all the work into the venture and it should go well. My wife's family has the bestest friends never speak again over $100, Money makes perfectly fine people lose their minds. With that, all the best for your new endeavour!

Best of luck Warren, partnerships come with a health warning but can work well too. Make sure communication is kept up and everything is written down for both your sakes. If your roles and mutual expectations are understood and accepted then why not, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Get the requisite legal and financial advice to cover yourself and make sure there is an exit strategy if either partner wants to quit. Plan for the dooms day that it could go t*ts up at anytime and you'll be fine. Finally, make sure you are getting decently paid and are first paid, you'll get more respect for it.

That's the thing about partnerships, they can destroy what were good relationships. I think the key is setting in place who's responsible for what. What expenses are covered by the partnership? If he suddenly starts taking money for expenses you didn't agree too, it will strain the partnership. You have to agree to how everything is to be run. If things aren't spelled out, things won't last long. Who collects the rent?

  • @fiegenfiegen

Having had two different partners, one for six months and another one for 17 years, I have only one piece of advice: do make sure you talk openly about any concerns early in the partnership. Whenever you feel something is not right, do let your partner know, and ask your partner to be very open too about any concerns on his side. Trust alone is not enough: you need to make sure -- by talking regularly -- that the partnership is working for you (and for him, of course). If a time comes when you no longer feel like being bound to the partnership. explain why to your partner and... no hard feelings! Nothing personal. Just business!

congratulations............the tractor sadly has been driven into the ground :// I hate to think how much damage is done every year, by simple lack of oil changes and filters. Common rails are super dicey when it comes to fuel filters.............

Why don't you call the EPA and tell them exactly that? It's their requirements for clean air.
