    Working out at a gym motivates you better? This is a LIFE strategy I am talking about, not just a workout strategy. Its about having time to pursue your passion and eventually turn that in to your "job". How are you progressing toward having a full years wages in the bank so you can quit your job and follow your true passion? How many hours a week do you have to follow your passion so you can become an expert?

    I have two sets of dumbbells at my house, and can do a modified shoulder, arm, chest, or leg workout with them. I jog around my neighborhood, and can do abs at home without any equipment. I go to the gym also, and it does indeed consume money, time, the conditions are usually unpredictable (i.e. crowding). Also, I always shower and dress presentable before I go to the gym and shower again afterwards. When you workout at home, you can workout before you shower, dirty and in a pair of shorts, then shower only once.

Only thing that I'm lucky is that my gym is 5 min away from my home and I don't usually have to wait in line for machine. Your points about time being precious are spot on. I recently moved to drop my commute from 2 hours per day to 20 minutes per day. If I can spend the time and money on moving, why not on setting up a home gym? The ritual of driving to and from the gym, and locker room time is at least half an hour. I also find I'm able to change and shower more quickly at my own place, since I don't have to wait for people to get out of the way in the locker room.

As long as I don't decide to be a bodybuilder way above natty limit I have plenty of space for my shoulders. And I don't have the ridiculous "leg extension" so its not as long as the ones we use to see. That's one point. For the 99% remaining of everyday life I would rather be a golgoth like you. Main reason would be the Metal concerts I'm attending, I would be unbeatable during pogo dance ;-)

    Greit video, the big winner here is TIME! I workout at home right after work for about 1 to 1,5 hours, and I'm pretty sure that in a gym I have to use at least double of time, for not mention the time to get there and back. I had all of different equipment in a limited space, and i found out that for me the solution was a simple bench and a dumbbell rack with a serious range. With that you can do any exercise plus doesn't take so much space. Yes they are little bit expensive but is one time investment.

    It's a good to invest in home equipment as long as there's space for you to workout there. The first step is just having a suitable place.
    *1 barbell to rule them all* . Buy 1 barbell, buy BIG plates equal upto your bodyweight, then buy some smaller ones for micro adjustment, like 10/5/2.5 plates... Then progress to *1 move to rule them all* : Clean And Press, you know, the move of Olympic games. You can of course do Military Press, Barbell Row, Deadlift, Curls... What you need is actually just a few main exercises and surprisingly, Bench Press is never one of them, really. 1 heavy Chestday and nothing goes wrong, but either 1 REAL back/shoulder day or 30' of squat and your whole world is turned upside down. So dont worry much if you can't do BP at home. Dips/Pushups with those plates are very good also.
    + Anecdote: My boyfriend quot his chest day once. He helped some builders lift a heavy concrete column/bar up, using Military Press stance; turned out he couldn't do anything else walking into the gym that day. His chest sored up the same way after working out the next day.
    Got More money? *ADJUSTABLE* Dumbbells. Even more money? A power-rack and a bench. Walk/Ride to work for cardio.

    @rakshasajakir Před 5 lety +5

    This is a great video. People get bugged-eyed after they ask me where I workout and I say "at home". Not trying to brag, but the money and time saved is frankly incredible. I wish I could afford a leg press machine and other heavy-duty equipment and I slightly miss the extra space I'd have without all the workout gear sitting in the foyer area, but it's ultimately worth it by far.
    Your muscular system can't tell the difference between a $250 weight set and a $50 weight set you found at a yard sale if the plates are essentially the same weight. Most of my equipment is used, and I think some of my plates might be older than me (I'm 33).
    It's a matter of getting away from bells and whistles and finding what works in the long term. No waiting on equipment, no bad music, no hostility from other people, and you can wear what you want. For example, one advantage of training the squat at home is that you can go barefoot and therefore maximize heel contact. Can't do that in many gyms because it's unsanitary having that many people taking their shoes off for squats. Fair enough.
    As I suggested before, one advantage may be in having a dedicated environment for weights so you aren't using your living space to train, but there are several ways around that. Every time I think about getting a gym membership, I easily talk myself out of it. The money saved is just too good. I also think people SEVERELY overestimate how much space they need to train.

    • @scooby1961
      @scooby1961  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, you can squat and deadlift safely at home and your muscles cannot tell the difference between doing this at home and doing it at the gym. Note that the BD-9 stand is better for squatting.

    • @rakshasajakir
      @rakshasajakir Před 5 lety

      Agreed. I think my half rack has been great for squats, deadlifts, pullups and overhead presses. It basically paid for itself, and it's light enough for me to pick up and move out of the way when not in use. Deadlifts at home can be better because you don't have to worry about noise restriction like you would in a gym.

  • @ericwagstaff2227

    I think the biggest take away from this is everyone needs to evaluate what works best for them in their situation. For me, I have tried to work out at home but their are too many distractions that detract from a good workout. Which is why I find going to a gym a much better fit for me. I can dedicate my full allotted time distraction free. Also, it on my way home from work, so no extra travel time and their is hardly anybody there as well. So it works great for me.

    I like the home made leg extension you made out of wood, just needs a coat of paint to tidy it up. I'll have a go at making one myself.

      Not worth painting to me BUT what would be nice is to staple old carpet onto it.

    I mainly use resistance bands, just need a pull -up bar, I get by, by leaning over to train upper lats

    This is so true. I jump rope and do weights at home, I hit the park and do sprints and burpees. I’ll prob never join a gym again because the results I got at home were superior. And with kids it’s so much easier

    I'm confident my doorways can't handle a pullup bar with my weight and my landlord wouldn't like me breaking them in an attempt to do pullups, what could I do about this?

    • @ChrisM-bn5vr

      If there's any local park around you can do them there on the bars. Just look for a place to do them you'll be able to find one, get creative.

    I would put rings as the number one piece of equipment, and maybe the only one you need. You can use them anywhere, and there are limitless gymnastic exercises you can do that translate to great muscle growth. Plus they only cost $20.
