    I would like to point out that the fact that GT does not let you access every single parameter of a car's setup or physics parameter, doesn't mean that it is not actually computed at run time. I see this misconception going around a lot. For instance, I can't change the caster angle of my front wheels, yet that doesn't mean that the caster angle of each car is not accurately modeled, which it is. The detail in this game is insane, and that includes physics, aerodynamics and suspension geometry. Please just stop saying it is not a sim, I know you are afraid that some PC master-tards come and attack you in the comment, but the fact that the game runs on console, doesn't make it automatically 'not a sim' as a matter of principle. This semantic pandering is ridiculous and won't age well.

      Nailed it on the head. I also find many PC sim racing elitists will say that just because a game is harder, it means it’s more realistic. Like they deliberately want a car or game to be difficult to drive. Sure it’s fun, but many real racing or test drivers have said in the past that often times the real life car is easier to drive than in a sim. I agree that people judge GT7 far too harshly, it is by far one of the most satisfying sim racing experiences I’ve had thus far. And his comment at the end seems quite self-contradictory; if a game represents its real life counterpart nearly perfectly, then it deserves to be called a sim.

    When people say that "GT7 is not a sim" is because they refer to certain simplifications to the simulation and setup model to make it less cumbersome (i.e. Tyre Pressures and Temps are always optimal, setups aren't as complex as other sims) but GT definitely does an amazing job in replicating how cars feel to drive to their real life counterparts, sometimes much better than the very sims we are comparing to.
    I've heard from people who owned cars that are in-game that they drive pretty much like that irl.

    • @Gamebit257
      @Gamebit257 Před 6 měsíci +66

      And the fact that GT7 isn't a full fledged sim isn't to discredit the devs. It's actually a very conscious decision to make the game simpler to understand for a more casual audience without actually dumbing down the overall experience - because if you do drive GT7 like a sim, you'd find out it's very on point with many others on the market.

I even tried to get as close as possible by regearing the ap1 to have ap2 characteristics. The FK8 I did the same thing and it definitely does exactly what it did in real life. I think there is a lot of elitism in the SIM Racing community. A mentality has been created that "GT is a videogame", therefore inaccurate, which definitely does not correspond to reality.
    I think that as time passes, and people experience GT again, the tendency is for more and more people to realize that GT is a Full Sim. It may be inaccurate in some things, but the whole package is fantastic for Petrolheads.

      Not a ''full sim'' in terms of simulation racing and realism as the mechanics aren't really based exactly as real world cars. But a full experience it is, its more fun than real sim games. So many cars etc, you need to cut corners somewhere. You notice this especially if you try to slip angle, powerslide or drift in GT7. You start noticing that traction has a bit different mechanic than ''sim'' games. I do agree wtih your last statement, its the whole package that makes it fantastic for petrolheads.

It's unreasonable to expect the developers to hand tune every single one to be close to real life, so for me it just feels like generally speaking they seem to have a bit more understeer, compare that to ACC which has 45 cars, the devs of ACC have far more time to hand tune each one.

    Many previous Gran Turismo games had weird simplifications such as treating cars as a spherical cow, having phantom forces that prevents rolling, etc. That's probably why GT is considered simcade than anything.

    What compound tire did you use in the game? I'm brand new to Gran Turismo, but overall pretty good at racing games and have only managed to get a 6:57.9 on SS tires.
    Also, did you have DRS activated the whole time and let the car automatically deactivate it whenever turning hard enough? Or did you turn it on and off yourself the whole time?
    Edit: Update - 5/7/2024 my best actual time is now 6:51.300 with a best theoretical time of 6:49.844. Still on controller, and still on SS tires.

    I noticed that the shifting on gt7 is more dragged out than real life. One thing to note is when I use to work with Porsche I drove a 992 GT3 Rs and can feel the similarities to physics from game to real life on the downside to that the RS feels just a tad bit delicate in game. Granted you aren't in the car to actually feel the movements around a corner and can only go off of audible sounds on when to shift gears than Being able to feel the vibrations of the car when it's time to shift into the next gear.

    Impressive comparison considering the game has hundreds of cars to model. The main difference between PC sims and this type of title is usually fewer cars being modelled means each car gets more attention to detail. ACC for example models each car to an insane detail to the point you have to spend weeks learn each car and its systems so it goes well beyond sim physics and handling. I would say the sound could be improved but aside from that a very impressive showing. It still remains to be seen if every car was given this same attention to detail though.

    For me, as someone who plays a lot of sims - both on PC and console - and who actually tracks his own Porsche in real life, the reason I have come to class GT as a lighter sim (and not on the same level for example as ACC or even the original AC), is how reckless you can be with weight transfer. In GT you can do things that you simply would not be able to recover from in real life or in more accurate simulations. I don't know what GT is doing differently under the hood, but it categorically "smooths the edges" at the extremes of each car's performance envelope.

    • @IsSalty
      @IsSalty Před 6 měsíci

      It's very likely because of the fact it's a console game and geared towards most players using controller and it's just not as accurate in feedback, so it's pretty much required to make it less punishing. But I think overall when you consider this, they have done an amazing job at finding a balance where it's even considered a "sim light". Especially when you consider the fact that the monstrosity that is Forza Motorsport was supposed to be a "simcade"
      Personally I don't have a massive amount of time in GT7 as I am a PC player who plays mostly AC/ACC, one thing I disliked about GT7 is the understeer that seems to be prevalent in so many cars, probably due to the weight transfer smoothing, but It's a great game in general when you just want to relax and race and not have to worry about concentrating too heavily on car physics.

    • @prolosertheatomistic8101
      @prolosertheatomistic8101 Před 6 měsíci +3

      Funny that you mention this, because I recently got GT7 and felt the exact opposite, I feel like I can be much more reckless in AC than GT, and recover easier in AC too. If anything I find GT harder to manage weight transfer than AC.

      I share your disdain for these people. GT7 very accurately replicates the handling and response of many cars in their stock form in-game. Apparently to those people, if you can't setup every little parameter of the car then it's just a "simcade". If it feels like the real thing, then it's a simulator to me. Setup is secondary.

      iRacing is kind of a joke still. Only 200,000 users and it's been around since 2007. It makes money and has way more real tracks than GT7 - or really basically any racing game ever made to date - but iRacing's physics aren't considered real by most people's standards and by most people I don't mean real racecar drivers because most real racecar drivers use bespoke simulators, not iRacing, not Assetto Corsa: Competizione, and not even GT7. That said GT7 is still very accurate, and it looks much nicer than all the above including most bespoke team simulators that cost many tens of thousands to make. Also GT is the only racing game to make real racecar drivers out of gamers who can actually podium IRL no less.
