  • Well after reviving this pickup the first time, it's been rotting into the ground for a year with a box full of new brake and cooling parts sitting on my shelf. It's time to empty the shelf and try to make this pickup road worthy once again! Lets see if we can't get it so we can drive it 30 miles round trip to visit the previous owner. Since this truck is a local LEGUND! It is NOT FOR SALE! As always, thanks for watching!

I do enjoy seeing what happens to the vehicles after the "will it run". After spending an hour with a cool old vehicle I get invested in the out come. I know a bunch get sold "as is" , but it is cool to see some go to the next step of being road worthy and useful again. This one is so close to useful.

You might wanna check those snap rings in the front hubs. The one you showed looks like an internal snap ring. An external snap ring would have the holes on the outside of the ring so the whole ring seats in the groove. That may be why it was stuck in the grease... I'm surprised Mr. Wes didn't comment on that one...

Mr Mortske, thanks for videos, I have a suggestion. Given the fact that you are dealing with so many odd ball, unobtainable , pitted wheel cylinders, I suggest that you set up an electrolysis plating apparatus. Grab your 12vdc charger, use lowest amp setting, seal off one end of the cylinder with a stopper, ( an old cup may work), stand it vertical, add electrolyte , dip in a nickel rod, ground the cylinder and apply positive to the rod. Nickel is good for filling the pitted areas, once sufficient plating has accumulated, rinse and hone to perfection.

My grandfather was Eldon Hayes but went by Dick Hayes and only my great grandma called him Eldon. Automotive related gramps was an architect/general contractor and one of the two historical claims to fame was gramps was the general contractor hired by Preston Tucker to convert the old Dodge aircraft plant over to the assembly line to build Tuckers ( his other claim to fame was being the GC on building Ray Kroc's first McDonald's in Desplaines Illinois) . Also clearing out dad's place after he passed found a bunch of gramp's gas station road maps from the late 40s and early 50s. A whole bunch of extinct gas station brands and strange as heck to look at maps without interstates on them.

The interesting bolt that you unscrewed from the diff carrier was a thrust bolt, if you took it all the way out it should of had a brass cup pressed on the end. It is there to control ring gear deflection, screw it back in until it makes contact with the back side of the ring gear then back off half a turn and tighten jam nut.

This shows how much into the future we have gone with 4x4 trucks, I have a 1965 and an old 2007 Chevrolet truck I like looking at one and I like driving the other, The 1965 is the one I look at. But for the good driving, I drive the 2007 even if is also an old truck.

My very first vehicle ever in life was a 1966 Chevy truck. It was rough, multi-colored and rusty, but I loved it. $60 back in 1999. Too bad I live in an area full of greedy people, I know where there are 7 of those trucks in beautiful condition just sitting in a quonset rotting away. The guy literally told me they will rot there forever because no price will buy them.
    Thanks for another great movie.
