His remarks came hours after Trump, who had just landed in Paris, used twitter to criticize Macron for proposing days earlier that more European military cooperation would be a good thing.

I really like this guy. Very diplomatic, collaboration-minded, and open to compromise while remaining true to his basic goals and views. This is the kind of discussion, objectivity, and just plain sensible thinking that we need in this country. Not just among the politicians but among all of us.
How did that work out ? Many hours of talking with Putin could have been used much more effectively by thinking or asking someone smarter than him what to do. Macron speaks English very well, but his French accent is really thick. Every time he says "burden sharing," it sounds to me like he's saying "butter sharing." Which is adorable, first of all, but might also be a good idea. When Trump is gone, we're going to have a lot of work to do to repair our relationships. If sharing our butter will help, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

It's not always easy, and between French and English, there are a lot of differences to get used to. Even having studied languages for years, I'll probably never be as fluent in any as I am in my mother tongue. Thus, from this perspective, I appreciate how smoothly the native French Macron navigates English - especially his use of technical jargon, different structures, and idiomatic expressions - given that he hasn't studied it at a university level, he didn't learn at home, and he never lived in an English-speaking country. His proficiency is due totally to his determination in personally learning English, unlike most Europeans. I just found that admirable.

Every average US-President has higher approuval ratings, than European leaders. It's just because US has 2-party sistem, and people just support their "tribe". Europe has multiple parties system and voters swing between parties much more often.

Mostly my grumble is with the questions. Talking about foreign heads of states personal relationship with Trump and Trumps tweets is stupid and waste of time. Funny to notice how Macron wanted to talk about strategic main issues and just diverted away from Trump immediately. Then goes on minute monologue on strategic thinking and justification, which is completely not what the interviewer asked. Then interviewer goes straight back to "So about your relationship with Trump".
Apparently CNN is not interested about the major shift in strategic thinking and positioning, that has started in Europe and is going to keep happening for decades forward. Once this roller starts rolling, it has momentum and won't easily stop. Shift which will have MAJOR implications to transatlantic relationship over long term.

He also is a sweet talker, rather hypocritical. Always talks with reasonable and balanced arguments but the consequences of his actual economic policies are much harder than what he claims. He will never sell his economic reforms for what they are: spending less to reduce government spending but will find a way to explain that reducing health spending will make hospitals more independent, reducing pensions will make them structurally more equal by removing privileges, reducing unemployment fees will encourage workers to find a new job, lowering wealth tax will stimulate investment, weakening workers rights will reduce unemployment, etc. This constant marketing-like hypocrisy is quite infuriating overall. Sometimes his strong neoliberal sensibility comes out accidentally in something he spontaneously says and that always creates a small scandal. I.e. Him telling to an unemployed worker that anyone could find a job if they crossed the street, or telling to public hospital nurses demanding a raise that he is very sorry but there’s no “magic money”.
