Kirk cousins is 36 this year coming off a season ending Achilles injury, his contract we signed him to is perfect for this Penix pick. Most of Kirk’s money is in the first 2 years of his contract lol, we could cut him in 2026 before June 1, and save 32.5 million against the cap. Also Penix is going to sit behind a very good quarterback for at least one year, (pending injury) and learn and develop. Look how Jordan love turned out. This is a great move by the falcons. A lot of people don’t comprehend how drafting works, or contracts. Kirk cousins gives us a “win now” situation, while Penix is our potential QB of the future. Great pick by the falcons. Absolutely. Kirk’s contract makes complete sense for this too. The falcons are thinking ahead. Very smart pick. People who don’t understand just don’t understand the long run mindset, or how drafting works. who’s you’re team? were they in the top ten? they’re probably sorry just like your sorry franchise? so what’s the difference

We are gonna need a quarterback after cousins. So I’m okay with the pick who knows penix jr might be the next superstar quarterback.

If you have a QB for the future, you don’t sign another QB for 100M guaranteed. With BOTH QBs with injury history. SMH

Upset about The bears not grabbing Harrison at 1 and Penix at 9. Falcons made a smart move. This young man has a better arm then Tua. He can air it out

It's really interesting the split opinions on this. It doesn't have so much to do with the players or the value. It comes down to the strategy.
You either like the strategy of setting up a succession plan and having a good backup for some insurance, or you dont think it's a good strategy, and you should get a contributor elsewhere now and worry about qb later.

Hard to argue with the owner's pick of Penix with the 8th pick because Penix is a very high character guy, in addition to all his football skills. If you are betting the future of your franchise on a QB who you believe has the skills to take your team to the promised land, high character has to be in the equation.

It only make sense with having these older QBs excellent job he will learn from Kirk which talent wise he’s better but the knowledge he can get is goes a long way he’s the future

Falcons still needed a QB for the future. Cousins is good for a few yrs. But now they have their next guy. I knew the falcons were going to draft a QB

To really understand MPJr Pick, you have to understand the dynamics in Atlanta, past, present & future! Additionally, the Game is evolving from dual threat QBs to Dual threat "twin" QBs (same with Steelers, Russell & Fields)

I'm so happy for him. So many first round quarterbacks get thrown out there and then they become backups. Look at Patrick mahomes. He backed up for a year too. Look at love how much he backed up. Aaron Rodgers these young quarterbacks need time but the coaches are always on the hot seat. They don't have time so I think that was a brilliant move just like what Pittsburgh is doing with Justin Fields...😊👍

50 million would have really helped on the Dline, something they had trouble with the last 2 seasons.
Then after 2 years, it cost 35 million to cut him...

Cousins probably feels disgusted because the Falcons drafted his backup but anyways if Cousins is the starter in Atlanta here are his stats in 2024
    5,600 yards
    45 TD
    5 INT
    120.0 Rating
    7-10 record
