- How I asked my girl to marry me:
She likes puzzles, so I made her a puzzle box. I invited her on a day out and came to pick her up early in the morning. I handed her the puzzle box and explained she had to solve the Sudoku-like puzzle on the bottom (it's just rows and columns, not squares). Once she had finished the 'Sudoku', she had the coordinates of the locations we were going to visit this day. We used a handheld GPS to find the locations.
The first location was in a nature park with many animals. The coordinates led her to a tree at a lake with a heart carved straight through the trunk of the tree (I did not make that carving myself, it was already there). We had breakfast at this lake.
The next location was at the Batavia, an old ship at a museum at a shipyard. She had to find out the length of this ship to finish the next coordinate.
The next location was at the island Texel, at restaurant "De Zwaluw" (the swallow). It was a long drive and we hanged out at the beach first, then we had dinner at the restaurant.
The next and location was the lighthouse at Den Helder. We arrived there around sunset.
In the mean time my lady already noticed that the pictures on the puzzle box represented the places where we had been this day. I explained to her the flower on the front of the box is actually a combination lock, and each petal had a picture of the places we had been. Now all she had to do was turn the combination lock in the order we had traveled this day. Now the box was unlocked, the leaf could turn to the right and now the nautilus gears on top could be turned, to open the box. The ring was in the compartment on the right.
I proposed to her and she said yes.
Just out of curious is there a back up plan if she failed or took too long to solve the puzzle...
Excellent puzzle box. The variety of elements (sudoku, geo-caching, progressive clues) and the mechanism (combination lock, and variable-ratio gears) is ingenious. How fortunate you are to have met and proposed to a fellow puzzle fancier.
The problem is any girl smart enough to figure that out would also be smart enough to not marry me lol.
That is literally so incredible I can barely even describe it. Not only is the design of the box perfect, but if a single thing had gone wrong the whole day would've been ruined. The fact that everything went accordingly to your
Hot damn, what a way to propose! Not only did you have a great day planned out, but
I remembered the my husband proposed to me it was Saturday I wake up and didn't see him then I found a map that tells me to go to central park(which is the place we meet) and I found another map a tree tell me to go to a restaurant in Manhattan(which is the place we had our first date) I go there and the chef that served us our meals at that time gave me another map that tells me to go to the airport, so I go to the airport and suddenly a man in black tell me "follow my instructions it's a surprise by jack", he gave a ticket but told me not to look at the destination. I got on the plane, after 7 hours on the plane I realised it was PARIS, when I arrived I saw Jack he take on a date and he proposed to me right in front of the eifle tower I said yes then my family came out from a bush I cried so much my mom tell to stop being a Crybaby because I am someone wife now. I am so lucky to have that kind of proposal
She is a fortunate woman. Beautiful work on the box and it is also remarkable how you enhanced its value by the story behind it. I always push for people to instill meaning in the things they create.
y'all gotta read the description, it's so sweet.
i have no idea why this appeared in my recommended list
You had chosen a clever wife indeed.. Beware.
the description is the cutest thing ever
This is beautiful, until you realize the sudoku on the bottom can't be correctly solved.
this is some professor layton shit
I'd never get married if someone proposed to me with this because I would 1: not realize it was a puzzle box and think it was decorative or 2: realize it was a puzzle box, not be able to get it open, and get frustrated.
This is so beautiful and thoughtful. What a sentimental and poignant memory that box will hold!
I just read the description. Wow! I think that was the sweetest proposal I've ever heard of! So much thought and effort on your part; lucky gal!
That is the sweetest proposal ever.
I'm happy I read the description! Almost sounds like a short story before the next pixar film!
Thief 1 "I stole this box because I think there is something valuable inside."
This is so sweet, I actually think that it's the most beautiful way to propose the one you love. I wish you so much happiness
