  • How to fix a P0507 engine code: Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected
A P0507 Code is set when the engine idle speed has exceeded pre-programmed specifications for a certain amount of time.
An Idle Air Control (IAC) valve allows air to bypass the throttle, increasing idle speed.
The idle air control valve only works when the throttle body valve is closed.
The idle air control valve bypasses air around the closed butterfly valve.
Newer vehicles use an electronic Throttle Actuator System (ETC), which holds the throttle plate slightly open.
After cleaning or replacing throttle body parts, the engine may need an Idle Relearn Procedure.
Possible Causes of a P0507 Code
    Dirty Throttle Body
Faulty or clogged Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.
    Vacuum leak
    Bad PCV Positive Crankcase Ventilation
Common Fixes for a P0507 Code:
    Clean Throttle Body
    Clean Idle Air Control Valve
    Check for Intake Leaks
    Check PCV Positive Crankcase Ventilation

I have p0507 code in my 05 cavy. I couldnt find a vacuum leak. It idles ok when cold, it is still a little high. It idles pretty high when hot. Sometimes up to 1200 rpm. I smell gas around the regulator. I feel like it idles higher after i put gas in the tank. Maybe it is a bad regulator. But i dont have a rich condition code. I unplugged the iac and the idle didnt change. But i noticed it stays in the closed postion. I pushed it open and it ran rough for a few seconds then smoothed back out. The iac closed again. Maybe someome has some suggestions.

Hi bro i have same issue after scan I received a p0507 code , do i have to replace the throttle body or something else, because i used of cleaner inside the throttle body but nothing got changed… can you please recommend??

It will need to be troubleshooted to find the issue. The basic things to do are to clean the throttle body, check for a vacuum leak, and check the PCV valve.

    Could this cause shifting problems?

I’m also wondering the same. I’m no mechanic by any means, but P0507 is the only code I have on my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I don’t notice any symptoms, in fact - my idling is perfect. I have noticed slower shifting though when I’m accelerating, though. And my Eco mode doesn’t work… on the rare day my check engine light doesn’t illuminate, my Eco mode starts working.

Yes the computer tells your transmission is higher and it will kick shift

Mine shifts quickly but i do have a few other codes along with this which is related to vacuum leaks

I got this yesterday after cleaning throttle body too!! How do I fix it lol

The throttle body likely needs what is called a Relearn procedure. It can vary on the engine how the Relearn is done. Often, the computer will relearn on its own when driving around. Also, check for any wires that may have become disconnected.

@@HVAC_MechanicI did the relearn procedure, still the same issue. Bought new throttle bodies. Still the same issue and code. What’s my next step my man I’m lost rn

@@VqLyfe I bought the icon T8 scanner. It just needs to be reset with a scanner. Your throttle body is fine. Just needs a bit-directional scanner to reset it.

Can altitude affect this? I just bought a supercharged mustang that was completely fine and then I brought it up to 7000ft and now it's idling high. Any suggestions?
