Causes and Fixes P0097 Code: Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 2 Circuit Low
How to fix P0097 Code: Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 2 Circuit Low
A P0097 code is set when the computer (ECM/PCM) detects an irregularity in the intake air temperature #2 readings. IAT Sensor #2 is reporting high temperatures when the engine temperature is low.
The Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAT) monitors the temperature of the air entering the engine.
The engine computer uses the information to calculate air density so it can adjust the air/fuel ratio.
Cold air is more dense than hot air, so cold air requires more fuel to keep the correct air/fuel ratio.
This helps the engine to get more power and better gas mileage.
The IAT sensor is a Thermistor, which is a resistor whose resistance changes with temperature.
An IAT sensor can be built-in with the MAF sensor, MAP sensor, or by itself with single or multiple sensors.
Possible Causes of a P0097 Code:
Bad IAT Sensor #2

Speaking too fast
Doea this code makes your car to die and not start??
Great video
ideals may matter we can all get the same ideals but not come to the same conclusion we cant get to where we want to be
It was the remote control for me. Thank you.
What’s the degrees?
Beautifully presented and to the point. No waffle. I certainly will subscribe to your channel❤
Thank you for posting this my friend just broke the handle off of my car I’ll order the handles online and replace them slowly lol
Once the valve creates the vacuum, is it suppose to stay open until the engine cools down?...I checked this when my vehicle was warm so it took a couple of minutes before it opened up for me, but then after a a minute the valve would close then after 5 minutes it would open again for the same duration of time and the process would repeat itself, I also got a cylinder 3 misfire code which is kind of odd since I recently changed plugs and coils....any help would be greatly appreciated...damn these European vehicles!!lol
Does it cause the check engine light to come on too?
Is it okay or safe to drive with this code
Thank you!
Been tryna find the stuff the dude who had the car prior used. It's a soft metal, not flex pipe, and it's nowhere near as thick as the exhaust pipe is but lasted until I cut it tryna make it fit my car. What exhaust pipe or round steel is soft enough to be clamped? That's what I'm looking for. Size I know by heart already.
I jave to release almost the entire bleeder bolt in order for it to release ant fluid. while the other caliper as soon as I loosen it fluid comes out.
I’m having the idle problems bad but I’m having codes like p052c cold start and other codes like camshaft/crankshaft correlation sensor and timing codes, could the AIC or throttle body cause such things??
I have a 2011 GMC Acadia and if i press the brake, traction control is on but when i release the brake the traction control is off... do i had to change the sensor in the brake pedal?
I’m running a catless downpipe and get this code weekly .. I checked and no vacuum or exhaust leaks and replaced O2 sensor I guess this will be a code when catles
Where does it say the "A" Circuit is Bank 2?
I’m having this issue on my 2018 f150 but I’m getting no codes at all and it comes and goes randomly when you start it but goes away after you start driving for 10min or so
Can low coolant levels cause this code to pull up?
I’m getting a misfire on cylinder 1 as well as code for primary/secondary circuit for A and D, cylinder 1 coil was fried so I replaced all coils and spark plugs but still fried cylinder 1 coil, any idea what’s happening?
Thank you.
1997 ford f150 with 4.6 with headers. after my truck warms up at idle it has a slight knocking noise in bottom of engine. Thought it was transmission so i rebuilt and that wasnt it, When i give it gas or drive it doesnt knock, only at idle. What could be doing this, It has no check engine lights and truck runs great other than that knock.
What’s wrong with using pvc? Haven’t you seen it used above ground on every power pole pretty much anywhere
If the PVC is run sideways, it will sag, which is a bad look. In the climate where I live, the sun turns it black and gives it a burnt look after 2-3 years. It can be used, but it doesn't look good after a few years, at least where I live.
Master cylinder g35 coupe
Master cylinder g35 coupe
This my problem now after we replace the o2 sensor now this error pops out
How much would an electrician usually charge for this type of job?
Where I live, it is roughly $300-$800. It will depend on where the electrical box is and where the unit is set; a long hard run will cost more. The only way to know the cost for sure is to get quotes.
Thank you sir and great video
hi, i got my valve cover gasket change on my bmw and it started showing these codes. so i was wondering if these codes happened cuz of that change?
It came up once, I just use the cleaner you put in the tank every time I change my oil and I have not gotten the code for two years now.
Mine wobbles.and touching oil pan on and off
I have a one-wire alternator, my battery is new. Seems like it is always running at 14.1 volts. Always when the car is on, its charging. Is this normal?
The rated output for the alternator needs to be looked up but that is a normal range for most vehicles.
Are both sensors Engine coolant sensors? I replaced the left one, and you helped me realiease I need to replace the guage one on right. My gauge isn't working. But I want to be sure they both are same sensor?
My car its slow to accelerate but I don’t have any codes
Missing Cadillac converter
Great video. I might add also that chevy cruze has a recall notice for the negative ground cable...it may look okay however cause too much reaistance. This will cause issues like service charging system and stabiltrak traction control.
Replaced 02 twice. MAF is testing OK. Wiring tested OK. ECM tested OK. Can't figure this one out.
Super helpful, thanks very much.
Just had this with a 2015 rav 4
Thank you. ❤
How many hours is best to vacuum 50kw HVAC unit before refilling the gas
Mind didn’t come on until I ran out of gas ⛽️
my 2018 jeep compass starter fuse always blow up, what could be the problem
My car shakes under load/acceleration but not when it's cruising. I had my CVs redone but it still has the same symptoms. What could be the cause? Engine mounts don't look worn.
👌
A bad battery can throw codes and cause malfunction.
I'm replacing the valve body on an 06 Kia Spectra. Do you know if I have to have reprogrammed? I have this code also p0700 and p0748. Car goes into limp mode once a week. I already changed the input output transmission speed sensors and did a transmission fluid flush and new filter I'm trying to fix this issue where it goes into limp mode and get stuck in third gear. I turn the car off let it sit for 10 minutes turn it on everything works perfectly. So I'm changing the valve body out and need to know if it has to be reprogrammed after I do this or if there's any other options to reset the shift patterns and can this be done with a ODB reader
I'm not sure on the year but I believe it will need an Adaptive Reset. Here is a video czcams.com/video/acqwTQwVQYs/video.html
It would be nice if you spoke at a speed appropriate for novices instead of Mercedes Mechanics
