  • It's easy and fun to make a lifecast of anyone's hand! Just follow the simple step-by-step lifecasting guide how-to video, and you will have a perfect lifecasting which will "freeze time" and create a long lasting memento. All instructional materials are included.
For more information on the Lifecasting Starter Kit, visit: www.smooth-on.com/products/li...
Suitable for making "temporary" molds of the face, hands and other body parts. In addition to being an exceptional skin safe body molding material, Alja‑Safe® alginate does not contain free crystalline silica (a known carcinogen). Alja‑Safe® also captures detail better than other alginates, giving you a more accurate reproduction of your original.
Lifecasting is an excellent skill to learn for arts and crafts, cosplay, sculpting and fine art and more.

I finally used my 3 lb order of the alginate, amazing product. It's crazy how much detail it catches from the gaps in your nails to the size of your veins. I botched my first attempt trying to make a mold of my arm from my fingers to my elbow when I read somewhere else to use a 4:1 ratio for another alginate product and wound up with a big container of hideous/grotesque bits of meaty looking stuff that I tossed. Didn't have enough to try again, so with the pound or so I had left I made a quick hand cast following the actual directions and wound up with a beautiful/elegant piece. Only thing that got a little screwy with it was the Perfect Cast plaster I used probably needed a wiggle in the mold as I have a couple of flat finger tips where it looks like the cast didn't make it too, even though I topped it off from the wrist. Probably because my fingers weren't pointing straight down and were more upwards with the way I had them in the mold. The mold is also fun to poke at while your bored waiting for it to harden. I might try another product by smooth on, as I really do want to make a cast of my arm for a sculpture but it looks like the alginate is not the thing for this with respect to the amount I would need to pull it off even if I did make another container like the 5x5x? box I had I made from cardboard, 1.1 rolls of duck tape, and a trash bag.

what do you do with the Alja -safe after ? Does it recycle or break down in the waste dump ?

    • @smoothon

@@smoothon I actually had to drive to the Reynolds Supplies an hour away from me the same day as I needed to get this mold made. Explained the issue to them and they said there's a lot of factors, and that for best results to use "ICE COLD water that has been FILTERED'. eg. Ice cold bottled water.
Sadly had to shell out to buy a whole new pack, which worked with the ice water, and had a separate unforeseen issue - The amount of alja provided is not enough to complete a full mold of a hand up to the wrist - it comes up just shallow.
For all users, I recommend using 1.5 packs to get enough alja to comfortably surround the upper hand and wrist.
I had to resort to using plaster cast and making a make-shift wrist mold.
      Thanks

      True
You have to have a different ratio. 1:1 will never ever give you enough time to get the mixture that smooth as in this video. Definately not by hand! Maybe thats why they skipped it and magically the mixture was smooth.
