I wanted to make a correction the timing should be 18 degrees at cranking speed meaning the starter speed and 16 degrees at full throttle meaning at speed on the water. I was corrected by a 25 year old veteran mechanic, I appreciate any help I can get learning these things.

I think all makers of this 150 class were very awesome, I marveled at all, the instant responses are catchy, can hear the RPMS revving like it can handle an extreme pitch prop, 😀 on the take offs impressive. I disliked Mercury but.... after watching this video, I now ❤️ all oldschool 2stroke motors ever made by all competing companies, great outstanding work, this would be my goto if I was able to hire him as a mechanic. I can't visualize the troubleshooting this guy does in his head dang. End result, I respect the 2stroke Mercury engines. I kinda knew who made the Mariner Magnums I loved seeing cruising by.

Very cool. I'm hoping to aquire one of these some day. Their sound is unmistakable. What do you run for a mixture since you eliminated the oil injection? Had an evinrude 125 thar had oil injection, but always mixed 100:1 in the fuel as an emergency just in case as I've seen more than one critical failure due to the oil injection system failing.

I have a question about mine. I have a 1986 skeeter with a 150 xr2 black max. It’s really hard to start on land or in water. Once it eventually starts it idles and runs fine. Revs up fine. In water it runs rough almost like it’s coughing. Everyonce in a while it will light up and take off full throttle or it will just fall on its face. I replaced stator, rectifier, and trigger. Didn’t help. Was wondering if the hard starting is due to my thought of the electric choke in the ignition not working?? Also wondering if carbs are dirty

I know my 1989 Black max 150 has the wrong prop on it because the locking nut does not go on properly, this is how I bought it. I plan on getting a new prop but right now my rpm meter shows 8000rpm at WOT, could this be right? If not, do yup think it's the sender or the gauge that is broken? It's also running at like 95 degrees C at WOT with new impeller, poppet valve and thermostats.

When the control arm is further past half way, it sounds like it’s getting water boarded and dies. It wants to go faster but hesitates. Full throttle it gets Smokey and dies with smoke. @@haneysgarage2631 Your local auto parts store should have 1/8 fuel hose. Like you I also used the clear hose at first however the hose shrank so much that over time it actually pulled off several of the nipples! That garbage clear hose gets rock hard too. I redid it with proper fuel line and 2-ear type pinch clamps. So much better.
