- I am not sure how many of you have a greater knowledge of outboard engines, but I don't. This is going to change and I plan to show much more of outboard power plants on this channel, starting with incredibly good sounding 6-cylinder units, both two and four-strokes.

Mercury I6 engines, in the Great Lakes region were often referred to as "the tower of power", and I spent many summer days with one of those things shrieking wide open behind me. Good times.
I also spent many summer holidays as a kid here in New Zealand with a tower of power screaming behind me, good luck trying to have a conversation with anyone! Great memories, the good old days
When growing up in the 60's, my father had Johnson and Evinrude powered boats. The Mercurys were always faster and I think that's the reason he hated mercs.
That i6 is a relatively modern "blue band" motor - the older ones were know as the "red band" motors and had a red colored decal
@@michaelharrison1093 relatively modern? Almost 50 years old!
@@rwd323 where in NZ? I spent summers around Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotoma in the 70s and 80s
10:00 I almost cried. What a sound.
Engine go REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
2stroke scream
Dude I thought I heard you on the video
sounded like the old F1 cars...
@@MrKdr500 This was even better :D What a melody!
The sound of that Quincy Looper, sick! Sounded like an IndyCar engine!
I really appreciate you doing all kinds of engines, your goal is to educate and you’re doing a great job. Keep the great videos coming VisioRacer, PLEASE?! 😉
Brother, engines are engines and most gear heads love all the stuff you post. Don't stop find and showing the world more engines. Great video...
Shout out to evinrude for further developing the 2 stroke.
Evinrude is dead, sorry.
Mercury has some modern direct-injection 2-stroke outboards.
@@SupraTompan yeah we know, that’s not what he said though
@@exothermal.sprocket Mercury hasn’t developed two-stroke engines since 2005...what are these new DI two-strokes?
@@SupraTompan Sadly yes....the issues with the G2 E-Tecs were the straw that broke the camels back.
They were plagued by poor management since being bought by Bombardier with too many products occupying the same place in the market. They also never offered anything over 300hp, which kept them out of the lucrative off-shore market.
Too bad really, the E-Tec technology showed promise...but we’ll never know now 😕
The 2.5L merc can output nearly 400hp when built right. They can also be spun to 10,500 rpm and are arguably the best outboard ever produced!
Pound for pound, it is very hard to beat the 2.5L merc, but I'd venture to guess the 400R comes really close for a 6 cylinder!
I’ve never seen an outboard engine dyno before, that was awesome.
Mercury 2.4 liter Bridgeports had an awesome sound. Also the Evinrude V8 was sweet sounding.
I have a 1997 2.5 liter Drag Racing Mercury. I've seen one with 380 h.p best motor ever, best sound ever.
Wouldn't mind if mine fell off sometimes.
This is a video I didn't know I needed but I'm glad to have seen it. That Mercury racing and Quincy Looper though 🤯
The last engine sounded incredible!
I’m actually very excited if this is going to be a series for every number of cylinder outboards.
That last Motors screamed like no 2-stroke I've ever heard wow
2 strokes are music to my ears ..plus i like the smell of that exhaust 😁👍
I love the ol' 2 stroke toke...
2 stroke is my reason to live.
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning.
Outboards rule, thank you for diving into this.
Thank you for the outboard videos. Its greatly appreciated
This is an amazing video, love the outboards and the crazy sounds they make! Thanks Sam! :)
Mercury 2,5. Scream and fly motors,, 🥰🥰🥰!!!
Cheers and have a excellent weekend VR,, 🍻😎👍.
Mate that was a really good episode ! Love the twostrokes so much particularly the sound of the last one ...wooowww
That was pretty cool, hearing these reminds me of going to the lake when I was a kid. Some of my good memories from that time.
Mercury recently came out with a 600hp V12 outboard, it's kinda nuts.
They are insane, also insanely expensive. I believe the 600 horsepower verado is almost 80k
Great job showing different engines from all over the spectrum. Please keep it up.
Visio Racer, Thank you for the boat engine video. I have a two-stroke Mercury 175 HP V6 Jet Boat and that Mercury sounds GREAT!
That last one was sick as hell, wow what a engine!!!!
keep doing the outboards i love this channel so much for educating me on engines i love outboards keep it up
Great video! Love to see unique new content.
Thanks for sharing this video 💪 greetings from Portugal
Outboard engine industry have some very very interesting models, which I'd definitely try to put in a car just like the Rudezon.
I need that Quincy Looper! Great job on the videos keep up the good work.
having grown up in Florida and being 3 to 5 miles from the water my whole life being around boats is something I grew up with so getting to see them here is kind of fun
Yeah man, I spent my summers with my grandparents in Tampa Bay as a kid...and I will never forget the boats, it was nothing like my little lake in Ontario 😅
Fountains with triple 300s and the big 38ft Scarabs & Donzis all ripping around the Gulf were amazing to see....plus you could hear the two-stroke guys from the causeway if the windows were down 🤣
Good work dude, your research is impeccable
Fantastic channel. Really like what you do. Keep it up.
Si, Christchurch, New Zealand
Great video, the variety is amazing
The first race engine I heard in person as a teen was a friend's ported V6 2-stroke outboard ( Mercury Marine, I think) He fired it up for me while the boat ( 16 foot Hydrastream) was on the trailer. Brought chills to me, it sounded so wild.
I requested this; and you delivered.
My favorite "sewing machine" sounding was the mercury inline 6 115 HP. My favorite "angry " sound was the mercury 175 black max or the 2.5 red stripe. Miss those days....
This was out of the box for sure. Very cool loved it.
It’s good to have variety, keep going 🙂
Love it as always! Next 4 cylinder outboards
Great new series, VisioRacer.
I hope you can find video of the OMC outboard Wankels, especially the racing 4-rotors. I used to work with an engineer that was head of that project back in the 1970's/80's, and he had many stories.
Awesome video like always
The Mercury Verado 225-300 and above, inline six, supercharged, should have been in the list 👌
I think they go up to 400 verado. The sport jet 300 is cool too.
The new v12 Verado has an insane 600 HP
@@jcraig89 really? I haven't worked on mercs for a few years now, that sounds like one badass outboard.
@@Zach-ju5vi mercuries are now up to 500 in the verados, and hve the 600 hp v12s
I love that you recognize the uniqueness of outboard engines, I love the straight 6 mercury.
That last one sounds pritty good. Great video thank you 😊
Great work my friend!
Keep them videos coming. Good content 👍🏻
Mid 70s through mid 80s mercury black max. Had the 175hp for almost 20 years. Best outboard I’ve ever owned !
Awesome video! 😎
I have a 1983 Evinrude 15hp on a 12’ tin boat...it’s still starts and runs flawlessly every summer 🤠👍
Johnson/Evinrude 15hp = most reliable outboard engine of all time.
@@stevenwoodcock8702 Has needed nothing but maintenance and a new rotor for the pull start (guess the clock spring wore out)…in almost 40 years! 😀
Thank you Sir, great vid as nobody talk to much about an outboard engine
Dude ur English has gotten so damn good over the years cool to hear. Think I first subbed at around like 20k
Love your outboard compilation. You should continue this series of videos, maybe with V8 engines. Absolutely love your videos, keep up the good work! 🙌🏻
I’m Sineads husband we live in Bristol uk. My father used to be a boat dealer here in the city years ago. We used to have the powerboat Grand Prix in our docks. I will never forget the sounds of the best tuned engines. You could here them for miles. Billy Seabold from the USA was the man. It’s on CZcams. Sadly I lost my dad to lung cancer years ago he was a legend. But now where we used to hang out I now live by the docks. And I tell my two sons the same stories my dad told me. Now there’s a legacy.👍👍🏁.
I've spent all my life on the water with the sound of OMC 90 degree V4's playing its soundtrack every summer. Proud to have the last version of the Johnson 60 degree V4 on my latest boat, sounds like home, especially when its time to flush the motor as it's getting dark and its rowdy chop is the last thing you hear before you put her up for the weekend.
Great video as always. A friend of mine has a Smuggler with two Mercury 300hp engines. Great fun to go with.
Awesome! Good job in covering the range including the inline 6, 2-strokes which I remember very well. I saw a black race boat at the annual boat show in St. Louis, Missouri when I was very young that I believe had five of these inline six's mounted. It was an awesome spectacle for a young kid. Out of all the boats at the show, that's the one I always remember and will never forget. I wonder where it is today?
Thank you for your great work
I don't own a boat and never really paid any attention to outboard engines but this video was cool af! Thank you!
Nice work Visio
Gonna buy a sailboat with my wife next week and I'm currently shopping for a small trolling motor to help dock it and be under way when embarking. I've been subbed to visio for a while now Haha this is so cool!
Big 2 Stroke fane here !!!!. loved it. Amazing technology now.
Great review!
Crazy sounds... Although My son is developing electric boat motors, (& I love them..cruise all day and into the eve on 1 charge.. More with solar), I am still (from the 60's) a motor gearhead, loved Formula 1 Matra, Porsche & Ferrari sounds.. I've owned several Porsches, but these outboards REALLY have the sound!! Thanks for your eclectic view of engines, racing and transportation in general. All of it is an adrenaline boost!
Cruise as in putting around or cruise as in up on plane cruising? Every single electric powered boat to date I've seen has had abysmal range when you're trying to get anywhere at a decent pace.
@@BlackHawkBallistic We're at the beginning of advanced electric tech.. Not everyone needs a Donzi or... to get thru their "enjoy the ocean / water day". Once upon a time, 0-100 mph was important to me.. now 0 to 500 miles on my trip to see my sister or brothers is important.. . 8 hours on the bay or inland waterway with my son & his wife work really well too. I've learned that it's not how fast you get there, it's the trip.. That being said, Tesla's model S plaid is I think, the fastest thing at the strip.. Fast electric boats are NOT a fantasy anymore..
@@stebro2738 so then it's putting around cruising correct.
The plaid tesla is fast but didn't it come out that it isn't as fast as advertised, it's not a 2 second car like they said it was but that isn't really relevant to boats lol.
If you're going a few knots then yeah an electric boat motor would work but if you want speed or long range it isn't going to work out. You could have a ton of batteries to power your boat but once they're used up it will take a really long time to charge them especially if you're doing solar power and at any kind of appreciable speed you're going to be using so much power you won't get very far. We need more energy dense batteries before electric boats become viable. I'll try to find the article I read just yesterday about the energy density of batteries in boats versus gasoline.
If we're using cars for analogies though every electric vehicle looses half their range or maybe more once your start towing with them.
@@BlackHawkBallistic Oh yeah, then there is towing.. I have a Mercedes sprinter and a Mercedes diesel powered 08 jeep grand cherokee... both tow like blazes.. 70 mph pulling 5000 lbs and at 15 to 20 mpg! I however, I see in the near future, with new battery tech, electrics will NOT be far behind.. I AM a dinosaur, BUT!! I CAN see the future!
That looper is amazing,that sound
Great video. Well done.
Loved it . Mercury efi engines were so reliable and easy to work on. Todays engines are too complicated and have more issues. I just bought a new power head or "engine block " for my 99 175 efi. So now she is good to go another 22 years hopefully . I've put mine through straight hell and mud and it was my fault it blew finally. Should of changed some parts that caused a failure . Anyways nothing will ever beat a 2 stroke in my eyes. I mean in my heart even if they make new 4 stroke engines with more power.
Thanks for doing this video.
I had a 1984 Evinrude 140 V4 on my bass boat - it SCREAMED when you punched it! Made the boat dance on the water at 65mph!
Sounded great
Thanks for using my video of the Evinrude G2😉
Wow amazing didn't know outboard engines were this rad :^)
I work on and repair all makes of outboards and I think the optimal is one of the best sounding engines. It’s got a “howl”. On the hose the big displacement yamahas sound really good. Without a midsection a Honda 150 sounds wicked.
Nice one. Thank you.
I recently bought a 2.4L mercury V6. Thing makes 220hp and sound amazing. I'm still figuring out what boat to put it in.
You’re gonna want a solid 20 footer for that beast. I personally like Lund hulls but they are definitely on the pricier side 😏
One that floats, would be a good start!!!
I’d put that engine on a SIMMONS Revolution 25.
The sound it makes on muffs will put a harley Davidson to shame. 2 .5 also
I came to see and hear what was on offer - nearly got Seasick lol.
Joking aside; a 👍 and comment is good for the algorithms. If it makes somebody 🤣😁 that's an added bonus.
Great content as always VR. Plz keep it coming. Peace 👊👍
I used to have an Evinrude 115 hp on a 18' 1969 Thunderbird. Was so fun.
That Quincy sounds like it's on the ragged edge of existence.
Really enjoyable vid! I still run a 96 Suzuki V6 2.7L DT225 double injections, love it for the last 20 years of fun and fishing trips. A 2006 F150 is waiting to replace it, but DT225 just refuse to die.......
Wow, they sound surprisingly good. Especially that mercury in-line 6
Hi, loved it, thanks.
Great vid.. i wanna see more.. i love engines dont know outboards
Quincy looper sounds like a multiple F1 CARS ON acceleration
One of the best channels on youtube
Man I absolutely love the sounds of the Mariners, as someone who grew up with a 4 hp on a small boat maybe that’s why but either way
I love outboards too. Make more of it. Great work as usual. 😎👍
10:04 ROTFLMAO, that sounded like someone was given a microphone and told to do Formula One engine sounds.🤣
A fact that has always shocked me was that outboard engines usually cost $100 per 1hp
Its because there built to last at wot for long periods. Car engines don't have the same kind of "duty cycle"
More
Another good show!
Great that you mention Ole Evenrud from Norway. Do not think everyone knows that he was the one who invented the outboard engine. The story of how and why he did it is incredible. 😁
I've said it before on this channel, and I'll say it again: I am first and foremost an engine guy, and that my passion for engines was ignited by outboard engines when I was a little kid. Few things in this life sound better than a big-bore two stroke outboard starting-up out of the water and then, when it's warm, being revved-up violently, accompanied by a plume of blue awesome-smelling exhaust gases 😎
I have seen that last one as a kid at boat races. Sounds wicked af.
There is nothing like v4 or v6 2-stroke sound in outboards 😍 did the last video of mercury racing engine blow up in the very end 😂
Very interesting, always been passionnate by car boats and bike !
Sheesh didnt know you still made content! Hell yeah.
Still here, still making it
That Mercury Racing 2.5 was wild!
Hell yeah keep them coming.
Is this a Borat engine documentary?
Only joking! I dig the accent. Love the display of motors and the time taken to make this vid. Thanks!
get my like! go visio!
Visio the goat at it again
He understated how car-y the BF250 is, the motor is basically just a J35 stroked out to 3.6L.
@@zacharyreynolds4303 nice Crosstrek :)
We used to have a 1996 Johnson “fast strike” 150hp 2 stroke v6. It was painted from the factory to match the boat, it sounded awesome. I miss it.
I love your content!
The boat at 6:10 is wild!!! 😜
I’d say it’s insanely fast!!! 💨
