- I'll show you how I adjust the linkage (link and sync) my Mercury Blackmax carburetors. This is so the carburetors open and close at the same time so they are synchronized to the linkage.

Great video. That paper trick is a good tip!
Thank you!
Your videos are the best and a great help! Thank you Pro!
Thank you!
Awesome video! Thank you!
Thanks!
You should really make a video on how to link and since and adjust timing on a 2.5 efi motors!!! That would be so greatly appreciated for me and many others!! 😁😊
I will take that into consideration!
@@ProWrenchingplease not one video
@@ProWrenchingthank you! I’m sure me and many others would really appreciate it!!
Awesome video! Waiting for the idle video!
Or can you type out a quick explanation for me.. been working on this not for weeks and I think this will fix most the problem!
Thanks! Working on the idle video. Hope to have it posted in the next few days
Hoping to see how you do your timing. I’m currently stuck with my 90hp mariner. Did the timing on it after following manual to the T. Currently it idles great, on the water, full throttle rpm @5800 rpm and 4 mph slower the before. Can’t figure out why that is.
Looking forward to comparing your video along with the small handful of others I’ve been watching.
Here's the idle video I posted today: czcams.com/video/QWK0i5EIyqI/video.html
You're missing the plastic cup for the shift cable where it's held at the mounting bracket. The throttle cable will have a bit of play or shift, at that point. I just made a new one for one of my 96' 225 mercs for the same reason. It makes a difference with the throttle response.
Yes - I was able to find a new one sometime after I made this video and installed it. You have a good eye!
Excellent video. Question Sir. If timing is correct and you pull carbs to clean, after the link and sync, do you have to retime? I see you did not. All I did was clean the carbs. Thanks
Thanks! No, you don’t need to adjust the engine timing after cleaning the carbs
Didnt check wide open throttle?
I have a 1994 Mercury Black Max 135 HP Motor. I haven't been able to start it after taking it out of storage. It has lots of spark. Fuel is getting to the cylinders. Compression is at 100 on all but one cylinder. I've had all 3 carbs off. They are pretty spotless. Floats move freely. It will not fire at all. I have even tried starting fluid with no success. It looks like you have exactly the same motor so was hoping you could suggest anything else to look at. Watched all your videos. They are very good.
Regards,Eric Sundgaard
Maybe the engine is flooded. I would replace the spark plugs or at least clean them and try to start again.
@@ProWrenching Thanks for getting back so quickly. I've had the plugs out several times and also changed them out. Still won't even fire at all. I've had the boat since it was new and the last couple of years it has been difficult to start, but never this bad.
@@ericsundgaard920 so- if you are getting fuel and spark at the right time it should run. Have you checked the engine timing?
@@ProWrenching I haven't checked that. I didn't think it could get out from just sitting there, but worth a check as nothing else seems to be wrong. I will have to figure out how to do it and will need to borrow a timing light.
@@ericsundgaard920 if the motor was running when it was last used, then I would think the most likely issue would be a fuel problem. I would think that the fuel probably dried up and gummed up the carburetors. There is also a major issue if the fuel had ethanol in it and was parked a long time, ethanol fuel goes bad and won’t burn at all eventually. You can smell the fuel to see if it smells bad. if it does, I would definitely remove that fuel from the fuel tank. Replace with good fuel. However, if that was only if your problem, then it should be able to start with starting fluid if you were getting spark at the correct time which led me back to- I think you need to check your timing.
would this be the same for 200hp blackmax
Yes
Would this work on a 150 blackmax
Yes
When rebuilding a 200hp 2.5 efi motor do you need to do a link and sync like this?
Do you still use your oil injection?
No- it was deleted by a previous owner.
@@ProWrenching thank you for the quick response. I have a service manual for a 0G serial 1992 and above, I have a 87 with a 0B serial number do you happen to know how much different they are? I noticed my poppet valve was the older style just don’t know what else changed.
@@austinbates892 Excellent question. There are some very knowledgeable guys in the Blackmax FB group who might be able to answer that question.
Idle video?
