  • Norman Blane is a lonely man who spends his evenings with the television and TV dinners. Attempting to order a music album from a television advertisement, he accidentally dials the number of a mysterious woman. He apologizes for misdialing, but she lures him into an interesting conversation. He discovers her name is Mary Ann and she's apparently lonely too. The next day at work, he discusses with a colleague the events of the previous night. He wonders if he should try to meet this mysterious Mary Ann....

I'm cautious about Norman and Mary-Ann. Both are in a state of deficiency, both need another, like addicts. Above all, Norman looks for the love on the outside that he does not feel for himself on the inside. Little by little, like an addict, he has to fill his half-empty glass with someone else. This is not true love, but what is called "romantic love." A trading company, "Take away my fear, I'll take away yours." - It's about blowing confetti into your own hair (neither of them can do that), being complete with healthy boundaries, standards.
And not to put your needs above your own values. And then without fail get involved with a woman who is not an addict herself, who is looking for salvation outside. Through a guru, therapist or a new love. - So Norman and this woman both are doomed.
And when there is an exit from the Twilight Zone, both of them get to know someone again because of the resonance, and a new drama begins, where it started so beautifully in the beginning. A new drama with replaced characters.

On one hand, this is a tale of romance,,with one lonely soul finding another and making sure they find eternal love.
On the other, she's a demon sent to end the life of a lonely simpleton, and make sure his hair doesn't infect the world any longer.

    • @Shanim
      @Shanim  Před 4 měsíci +1

No, there is no savior or destroyer outside (in this case, something demonic). There is no eternal love to be seen there either. Both are needy, in a state of scarcity, and both hope that the other will be the salvation of their own situation. If both of them had a fulfilled life, with a "full glass", able to blow confetti into their own hair, then the new love would be like the cherry on the cake. As it is, both of them are like drug addicts. Caught in a romantic love, a LTD. Take my fears, I'll take yours. The opposite of True Love, which is rare among humans. How it is: At the beginning two people meet, they are like rough surfaces rubbing against each other. Little by little, the surfaces become smoother and smoother due to friction. And at some point the surfaces are so smooth that you see yourself reflected in the other. These are no longer just the good things you like about yourself. And then most people run away. Because the other person reflects the injuries that you have hidden. Childhood injuries and learned beliefs "There's something wrong with me", "I have to fight for love", "I have to use masks and tricks to get a little love from my parents", "I have to act like this and that".
As long as I blame someone on the outside for how I feel about myself, who I am and what kind of life I lead, my situation is hopeless. The encounter with Mary-Ann is a gift in poor packaging - because sooner or later Norman will be thrown back on himself and will be forced to face his inadequacies inside and grow up. (She too, by the way) ...

It's both us, and whatever spans the eternal vastness of the universe, to be understood outside the limitations of the human mind - which make take thousands of lifetimes, or more.
      That leads into eternal love.
Maybe some of us have had a spouse in a previous life, and we're destined to meet again.
It would explain the love at first sight phenomena.
With the two characters here, maybe, just maybe, their mutual neediness can work, so that two half empty glasses make one full one.
Well, it would if she wasn't a sculpture.
      Quite painful sex I imagine.
The rough and smooth surfaces idea is also interesting.
Sometimes one surface is much rougher, so it can't be changed by it's much smoother counterpart.
That makes me remember that no two human beings are the same, and there will never be two exact same couplings.
The possibilities are unlimited, and outcomes unknowable.
If somebody is say, over 30, and still using childhood trauma as an excuse for behaviour harmful to themselves or others, they're to be avoided, which can be easier said than done.
They have to own their choices, or the choices will own them.
      But thanks for the upload.
I was watching 'Her Pilgrim Soul' on another channel before this, then your video was in suggested uploads.
The two are both similar and dissimilar at the same time.

The universal, the metaphysical theme of rebirth, then the theme of dual souls - love, the counterpart of 'fear', is not external, certainly not to be found. It is already all within oneself. In order to achieve mature adult love, it is necessary to look within. You cannot hope outside to find someone who loves you more than you love yourself. That is why, using the glass example, in a state of deficiency, it is not possible to fill up with something from someone else. Adults, in the drama triangle "victim-perpetrator-rescuer" with the ego on the outside, constantly participate in war and drama (the ego feeds on it). I am a victim of the bad neighbor, the wrong parents, the mean narcissistic ex-partner, the government,... Constantly looking for the good and the bad outside, with accusations, belittling, comparing, pointing fingers, clenching fists, signing lists, proselytizing, ... And where are the rescuers? A god, guru, psychiatrist, a new love. Who will save me?
Religion and esotericism have a lot in common. You need a God to save you. You alone are too weak. It's completely different with the spiritual: you don't need God, the divine is in you, love. You don't need a group, you don't need books, or you don't need to memorize things. You don't even need an intellect. Because you know there is something bigger than yourself. That you are open-hearted, know your healthy limits, and live your talents. Keep an eye on maintaining health.
There is no excuse for childhood trauma either. Most people are children in adult bodies. That's why the annoying world is the way it is. Most people cannot give their children unconditional love because they are hurting children themselves. The task of a dual soul is not to make you and you complete, but rather to show you these injuries. Nobody can do that better than your dual soul. Then she turns away from you. Just because she loves you. So that you can go within yourself and away from fear-avoidance life to an adult. If you do find each other at some point, then two mature, 'complete' people will come together. But each of you could also have a fulfilled, rich life on your own. If at some point you actually come together with your dual soul in a real-physical way, that would be the crowning achievement of a relationship.
The ego with an early childhood survival strategy in order not to break due to the unconditional love of the early gods, the parents. One child becomes very quiet, the other very loud. One aggressive, the other passive, one narcissistic, the other empathetic. When two adults, a narcissist and an empath (a good fit), find each other, the one (the former) is always considered evil. But both bear the same basic suffering. This person was the right person at the time to painfully show you something. Here too: A gift in lousy packaging. And when the relationship falls apart, you worry about the other person. You buy books about narcissism, borderline or bipolar disorder, go to libraries, try to understand.
You can save all that: Because it's never about the other person. It is important, and here we are back at the beginning, to look 180° inwards.

Debbe Long, You seem unaware of a literary concept called crystalization. Crystalization is the "if only..." element than beshadows an otherwise victorious outcome. In the novel "Ivanhoe," the protagonist was victorious in the major struggle, but the reader is left with the thought that Ivanhoe was unable to marry the woman he loved because she was Jewish. In the movie "Absence of Malice," Paul Newman's character was victorious over the unscrupulous news reporter, editor, and police investigator, but the viewer is left with sadness over a woman committing suicide because of a leaked news article about her. In the "Twilight Zone" episode, two lonely people were brought together, but a pet was abandoned and probably died as a result.
There's no virtue or reward in shallowness. The more depth of thought you bring to a story, the more you can get out of it.

No, I think either someone at work will notice his absence from work without an explanation. They would consider the possibility that he needs medical attention and they would notify the landlord or family member. At this point they would place the bird with someone who would take care of it until it was determined that Norman wasn't coming home. Norman didn't seem like he missed much work. Someone would realize that something is wrong.

The drama triangle victim/perpetrator/rescuer. He believes he has found a savior outside. He himself is the victim. A stupid job, a boring life.
Same with Mary-Ann. That's why they resonate well with each other. And it's not a happy ending yet. A toxic relationship, with addiction and dependency, with "Take away my fears and I'll take away yours" doesn't go well for long, because both of them don't have to look inside to heal their ego. The ego "I'm not worth it", "Something's wrong with me", "I have to fight for love". The beliefs from childhood with parents who never loved their child unconditionally. Because they couldn't with their ego either.
The hardest part for Norman and Mary-Ann is yet to begin. 2 rough surfaces rub against each other, and gradually the surfaces become smoother and smoother. Until you see yourself reflected in the other. These are the unpleasant aspects that have always been hidden and suppressed. - Then most of them run away. The art is to mature together and finally grow up.

Find someone who only wants to talk on the phone and is straight up about it. But you stalk her, try to force her to date you. Then get angry with her for sticking to what she says.
The woman being stalked ends up feeling like a jerk for having boundaries.
When will learn woman learn they aren’t PEOPLE. Just THINGS that should do whatever men want. Or suffer the consequences.
Instead of being punished and turned into stone, she started that way. Which makes this different from the shows and movies portraying women suffering horrible fates for having their own needs and being treated and maybe even called a bitch before ending up with the “dirty woman disease”.
This show makes it seem like if you’re pushy enough a thousand no’s will turn into a yes. You’ll be able to push a woman into being with you and feeling like a jerk if she doesn’t do whatever you want.

    • @Shanim

Mary Ann is not a victim. She, like Norman, also puts her needs above her values. Both with their egos are children in adult bodies. An ego that is constantly looking outside, in the drama triangle “victim/perpetrator/rescuer,” to see who the bad guys are, who the good guys are, and who will save me. Both of them cannot and do not want to look inwards. To finally grow up. One wish is that someone else loves me more than I love myself. Who are the evil ones on the outside, the destroyers? The bad neighbor, the wrong parents, the narcissistic ex-partner. Who will save me? A guru, a psychiatrist, a new love, a lottery win. As long as I believe that someone on the outside is responsible for how I feel about myself, who I am and what kind of life I lead, my situation is hopeless.
Norman and Mary Ann are two rough surfaces rubbing against each other. And the more they rub together, the smoother the surface becomes. At some point it is as smooth as glass and then you see yourself reflected in the other. And these are also the sides of yourself that you never wanted to see. Then most of them run away. Norman and Mary Ann's romantic love obviously won't last long.

      @@Shanim No still means NO.
The woman said no and the guy kept pushing.
      Just like you’re doing now.
I’m quoting what happened. You’re ignoring the things I said that you can’t argue against, the same way you’re ignoring that an individual seeing things a different way isn’t an excuse to pick a fight or make it seem like disagreeing is an indication of mental distress.
In addition to defending horrible behavior against a female while acting blind to it, you’re attacking someone for seeing this story from the female characters perspective. You use psycho babble word salads, aggression and derogatory use of serious mental health issues.
It’s crazy how you got belligerent, ignored facts, went on the attack, but I’m the one who is supposedly triggered.
If you want to come up with excuses to defend rape like behavior, and attack people for being against that just like the rape behavior your defending, or for just having an opinion as if I have not right to my own mind, you’re going to have to do better at gaslighting me.
You can address the points I made. I can count the number of times this woman tried to say no or set boundaries. I also can point out how you’re acting just as disrespectful as the guy. And how your nonsense response is acknowledgement that you have no actual point.
It’s clear that the idea of woman’s rights INFURIATES you. 👹 Your illogical behavior, avoidance of WHAT I said, and aggression against the idea of mutual respect, is the hallmarks of denial and bigotry.
However if being triggered means you’re just going to use words like “triggered” to bully and dismiss anyone who thinks differently, you’re not going to like the outcome.
I use my words and observations to articulate my point of view, what it’s based on, and the fact that I’m entitled to have one.
In that case you’re better off just pretending you never saw my reply.
In this battle of wits, you’ve clearly started a fight unarmed.
You can’t fight logic. Or demean other’s human rights without coming off as an even worse A-hole than the guy in this show who thought a thousand no’s would equal a yes.
By the way, bring triggered isn’t a term that’s supposed to be used to demean others. You should know that as someone who gets so riled up, you attack people for saying things you don’t like. If someone is triggered that’s MORE of a reason to be reasonable and kind. It’s weird you think that’s an excuse to bully people. Or that incoherent babble is an opinion. It’s not. It’s a tantrum.
You shouldn’t be so derogatory against a group you are clearly apart of. Whether you’re triggered, someone else is, or you both are, it’s NOT a joke.
It’s just a version of name calling. A tool that those who get offended by facts but need excuses to defend horrific behavior you’d never want done to you, your mother, kids or anyone else, does.
That’s the childish behavior of the emotionally handicapped and those projecting self-hatred outwards as they misdirect their considerable rage onto strangers.
You can’t ever win arguing for disrespect.
Oh and there’s no inherent difference to needs and value. They are NOT mutually exclusive. People value survival and having their basic needs met. Except for when they are tricked against fighting against their best interest. Like treating woman like they don’t have the right to be heard when they say no, or express disgust watching that behavior.
All because you think its your right. To infringe upon the rights of others. And you’d rather lash out then actually READ MY COMMENT, and rewatch the video to see if you can understand my point of view.
Take in mind my right to speak my mind means you don’t need to understand me or see things my way to respect my right to a viewpoint.
You either respect logic, the rights of ALL humans, or you don’t.
It’s clear you’re not a lover of logic or democracy.
I feel sorry for the people who deal with your emotional issues. You sound sick. You need help realizing other people, are people too. You sound like one of those guys who can’t get along with the woman you feel you have the right to demand. Who right a manifesto before going out to kill a bunch of people.
      🙏🏽
I’ll pray for you that you get the help you need before some woman is hurt by your irrational aggression behavior.
      PLEASE GET HELP!!!!
